  1. Academy Sports in Little Rock marked down several Bomber crank baits to $1.88. You might check the stores in your area. Look for the "Clearance" orange tag attached over the product hanger holding the original price and bar code. These had been moved to an end cap, away from the hard bait aisle. fwiw
  2. I have two, they are good. Academy has the Abu Black Max combo for $59 and sometimes puts it on sale for $39. Five bearings, a graphite frame, magnetic brakes, your average run of the mill $50 reel.
  3. My regular stops.... Lurenet, click on their specials tab. And on weekends, that have additional markdowns. And free shipping over $35 I think. http://www.lurenet.com/ Culprit always has something dirt cheap. http://www.culpritstore.com/catalog2/ Academy, scan the aisles for orange tags. And BigBitesBaits plastics are the best price when nothing is on sale. Walmarts in September. Cabelas Bargain Cave BassPro Clearance Tab Gander Mountain brick and mortar stores, never found any deals online.
  4. Use finger nail polish, lot longer lasting than model car paint. Walgreens has a lot of cool colors and isn't too pricey using their store brand polish.
  5. Call'em up, saw this on another blog... Charlie's Worms Street: 629 East Obispo Avenue Clewiston, fl 33440-4722 Phone: (863) 983-7888 http://billdanceoutdoors.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=11820.0
  6. Watched a show the other day, they were catching a lot using bubble-gum colored plastic worms running them as shallow as the could...
  7. Berkley BigGame monofilament on everything, and they currently are running a rebate. I use 10 and 12lb, 15 is a little stiff. 8lb on spinning rigs for the lighter stuff.
  8. You can't kill an old Abu round reel. 5000s should do anything you want, no matter what you want to winch in...
  9. I like Big Bite Baits because they are better and cheaper than Zoom. Academy is the only place I've seen them though..
  10. Couple of tries... http://www.oldfloridalures.com/fribb.htm http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=7284 Maybe it's a 1999. Does it have one knob on one side or a knob on each side? If it's only got the one knob, then it's a 1999 I think. Early 1980s they went from a knob on each side to one knob to adjust spool tension.
  11. Not as soft as Senkos, but BigBiteBaits at Academy are 8 for $2.09. Plenty of salt and weight.
  12. DadsOleTackle He doesn't charge you $8 "shipping and handling" on a dollar part. He's on ebay and has his own website. I get all of my Abu5000 parts from him.
  13. Fishing from the bank isn't user friendly for using plugs for me. Or jigs. Mostly plastics rigged weightless or a topwater and spinnerbait from time to time. Carolina rigged plastics with 1/16 or 1/8 works good in the deepest water with a 7' rod "lifting" them up as you bring it in. My latest favorite is the BigBiteBaits "Kreatures" http://www.bigbitebaits.com/pmknPpprGrenKK.jpg Almost the shine and green iridescent of local bream and the 4" weightless can be thrown with Abu 5000s... And the Uncle Josh Sizmic frogs are doing well.
  14. You bet, the Little Rock store clearance shelf doesn't have any more...
  15. Uncle Josh Sizmic toads on clearance 1/2 price or less here in Arkansas. Looks like they are going to stop carrying them? Best action I've seen on a plastic frog, legs move with very little effort and you can get them in several sizes. fwiw
  16. Not related but I've had catfish pick up Texas rigged weightless Senkos and "move out" away from the bank and when you set the hook, nothing but line comes back to you, their gristly teeth will shred mono.
  17. Walmart spinnerbaits for a buck or anything at Academy on sale for 88c.
  18. I think you'd be surprised how short of a period of time it would take for you to get use to it.
  19. "Where do i get the stuff to make a skirt? " I've used these two, both are great on service, no complaints. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/skirts-material/ http://www.barlowstackle.com/fishing-lure-skirts.html
  20. 5600BCX schematic http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=383 6 pin centrifugal brake, have you checked how many of any are on? I use Ambassadeurs most of the time, I like my spool tension just so the lure will not drop.
  21. Tracker, the only thing I've read negative about it is the spool. A $50 replacement spool for a $60 reel might be a bit much. Be careful breaking off line or putting a lot of pull on the spool. I have the older 5000s, fill it half full with some braid or dacron and then load it up with 100yds of whatever you like. Save on cutting it all off...
  22. I use 30-50lb braid to fill up the spool to about half way on my Abu 5000s, this allows me to top it off with 80 to 100 yards of 10 and 12lb Berkley BigGame mono. I'd use dacron backing but braid is a lot cheaper.
  23. bassman018, Never take your thumb off the spool. That was the key for me, the rest comes with time. You might try the spool tension knob a little tighter to the edge where the lure will not drop, but almost. And learn to accelerate the lure and matching the revolutions of the spool to the line the lure is pulling out. At first you can see the line going out faster than the lure is taking it, but over time you'll feel it with your thumb. It will need to become instinct instead of the thought and reaction, which is too late. You accelerate the lure and the line, getting the spool up to spinning with the line coming out, you stop the rod and the lure and line continues, you cannot allow the line to outrun the lure, hence, always must have your thumb on it. Lot of youtube videos out there, here's a good one talking about a tighter spool tension knob: Of course he says it's ok to take your thumb completely off...lol Also get someone to help you in person, will save you a lot of time. We can all try to help, but it's all just guesses. And if by chance you haven't figured it out, you cannot throw it like you do a spincast or spinning reel, it's more like slinging it instead of throwing it.
  24. Yeah Mann's worms and old segmented "Fliptail" worms. Remember going into the local Walmart in those days and you could buy a "handful" for a fixed price. They had all colors mixed in a glass goldfish bowl on the counter. Black, purple, red, and blue was it. Learned real quick you didn't put spinner baits, plastic worms, and plugs in the same tackle box; remember when they would "melt"?
