Can I use a 1/2 OZ jig on a Medium rod?
I agree with you can but shouldn't. A jig has a large hook and weed guard. You should have some backbone for a solid hookset.

which okuma swimbait rod??
I would encourage you to stay away from the MH for the baits you listed. It will not do it. I have the 7'11" MH and I use it for my small stuff. These SB rods all have fast action you will be happier with a heavier rod to throw the baits you mentioned.

rattle or no rattle on jigs
I only use them in muddy water or at night.

Spro BBZ Shad
I have only fished it a few times but have caught several fish, nothing big but I would give it a positive review.

Square billed shallow runners
I must say I also love the LC RC line of baits. I use the .5 - 2.5. For a cheaper bait though I like the Bandit 100. It's a square bill that has caught me a lot of fish and it is a lot easier on the wallet. Tigt lines 8-)

Most Over Rated Lure(s)
Anything I havn't given a fair chance. I find that as soon as I give a bait a fair chance in the correct circumstances, it starts working. Don't give up on those baits talked about before. Except, maybe the banjo and anything with flying in it. ;D : Tight lines 8-)

I don't know your fishery but your talking about two totaly different presentations. Both are nice but the Magic Swimmer may have more applications then the Sammy. Tight lines 8-)

Monster Wake Baits
I think so far most of the suggestions are good. I would go on to say you should stay away from flipping sticks if at all possible and stick to a SB rod. Okuma makes reasonably priced rods (around $100.00) that perform better then any flipping stick. As for reels you can get away with any good quality large spool baitcaster until you can replace it with a shimano 400B or T. My 2 cents. 8-) Tight lines

Spro BBZ-1 Shad Swimbait 4"
Same price. They both look nice for a SMALL swimbait.
