  1. Make sure you have everything you need to be safe first of all. Then make yourself a list of what you will be bringing with you on the boat. If it's your first time on the boat, I would keep it simple until you get the feel for your new boat. The last thing you need to do is trip over an over packed boat and fall in! Will you be solo or with a buddy?
  2. What bladesmith said, if I can control the boat and my baits, it's not too windy!!
  3. J, yes. You wanted to try fishing deeper, main lake points right??!! Start experimenting with it. 1/4 oz is plenty!
  4. I've had the opportunity to fish sme of the waters around LaCrosse. I've had some good luck on the Minnesota side just over the bridge in that little park (can't rember the name of it) I think it starts with a P?? Some deeper water in there. My go to was a smaller spinnerbait and swimming grubs around cover!
  5. Are we all still excited??!! It's getting closer!!
  6. Most of the bigger fish are relating to main lake cover and structure this time of year. Lake ridge is a good sized creek, it does have some deeper water, getting to it from shore is a little trickier!!
  7. Quite right!
  8. As a locksmith I am in contact with some of worst germ transferring objects in the world, door hardware! I don't wash my hands incesintly nor do I carry hand sanitizer with me. I wash my hands before eating and after bathroom use. I also try to make sure I keep my hands away from my face during the day. I like to think I have a money immune system!!
  9. Oooops, didn't even see it there!!
  10. Wonder if we can get the mods to pin a section on Livewell care?
  11. Moken12, where is "around here", if its the Potomac, frogging them up this time of year is the most fun!
  12. Glad you were able to catch a few. The res is an awesome fishery, hope my advice was helpful!
  13. Black Keys - Thickfreakness, anything from Choulahoma Stiff Little Fingers - Jonny Was (Bob Marley would be proud) Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog Waxing Poetics - Baby Jane XTC - No Language In Our Lungs
  14. So your chiller unit goes into a cooler with ice, then you pump your water thru the cooler unit and recirculate to the wells with cooler ( temp wise) water??!! Sounds like it should work. Like Slo said, you really don't need to have your livewell water but about 10* cooler than the surface water. If you have it colder that that, releasing the super chilled fish back to the lake will certainly be too much of a shock to survive. Just a thought. I keep a floating pool thermometer in the livewell to keep an eye on livewell conditions
  15. Yes, sorry, the fountainhead marina! They still had some there last time I looked!
  16. They have them at the marina. GEMCO, just re issued the map with the locals lingo on spots. It gives you the general areas to start your search for "the spot!"
  17. I would fish the left hand bank from the point across from the marina all the way up the the old Ryan's dam. Pay closer attention to the grass beds and steeper bluff banks. Smaller finess worms and creature baits t rigged should get you some bites. Don't be surprised if you get into a big catfish! Loads of big flatheads in there!
  18. Plenty of good spots within sight of the marina. The point across from the ramp is a good spot to try first. Top water along the grassy point. If you don't get any takers, try a shakey head a little deeper along both the inside and outside of the point. You should also try the old Ryan's dam structure up lake. Try just about anything and anywhere in that area. You will probably see bass breaking on schools of shad up there. Have fun and be safe!
  19. Depth is all relative to the area you are fishing out there. Sharper contours are the things I look for. Places that drop off quickly like channel edges. Down lake you find them with drops from 20' leading into 33' in two boat lengths. Up lake it's a lot less drastic! Sunday I was sitting in 30' castin up into 7' catching fish relating to the bait cruising the drop off. It takes time to find good productive areas like that but when you do it can be lights out with the right conditions!
  20. Thanks guys, with the days getting warmer, the offshore stuff is starting to heat up!!
  21. Fished today from around noon till 5. Ended up with about 25 fish. 3 fish in the 4lb range and probably 5 close to 3 with the rest just keepers or smaller. Here are a couple of the better fish. All of them were off shore structure fish!!
  22. BEAUTY! That looks like a super solid combo. Need feed back please!!
  23. Agreatham, if you are looking for snakehead, you are in the wrong place. The res to this point in time and to my knowledge has no snakehead population. You need to get on the Potomac and fish tidal tributaries of the river!
  24. Fish that white spinnerbait up here on the Potomac and you will have lots of cats crush that thing!!
  25. Hopefully Shimmy will chime in, I think he has the most time on the water there. I've fished it a handful of times but its been about 10 years since the last time!! I know it has some great ledges along the main creek channel. I can remember catching a nice fish along the dam. Shimmy might give you some deeper weed lines to try as well. Good luck. I would chuck some football jigs along points and drops tho!! I think the off shore stuff is king out there so you might have to search for that.
