My first omc was on a buddy's ranger for 10+ yrs before I put another 6 on it. Found one on eBay that has been in service now for 5 and I have another in the closet! 12/24 56lb thrust, light and quiet, perfect for a jon boat.

I have a modified 9.9 on a 14' jon, 12/24v Johnson tm. Get the most hp you can for the water you will be fishing. If its 10hp restricted, find a gently used 9.9 and you will be happy! I knoW you fish hunting run a lot and a 9.9 is not difficult to take off if if you need to!

As the water temps increase, I use frozen water bottles thru the day to try and keep the temp cooler than the lake water. Please release me and I do not introduce new water to the well after the initial fill and treatment. You also don't want to go overboard with the ice. I think I read you don't want the temp to be colder than 10 degrees of the water you are fishing. I recirculate throughout the day. A live well timer is always nice.

I did not see but the last 40 min. I do remember an old Orlando Wilson episode where someone had done the same thing. He just bed hopped someone else's milk run!

He didn't want to catch the male first. He thought that would spook the female. He thought by releasing the 3 back to the bed it would calm the female and possibly make her more apt to bite.

Alligator clip with about an oz of lead, clipped to a pec fin and keeps the fish upright. Only tried it a couple times on fish caught deep or a fish that was exhausted after a fight. Simple! Could probably make them on the cheap to try.

I just watched that as well, he didn't throw the male back and eventually caught the female which he estimated to be 12+! At least it looked better than 7. I guess if you can judge or know the mood of specific spawners, and you are swinging for the fences in a shoot out for 125K, why not??!!

If they have a problem staying upright, try the fin weights. I was amazed how they keep the the fish in a good respiratory position in the well.

Never really tried deep cranking in winter. That being said, might try it a bit next time out. I'm more of a jb, jig guy in winter. Not to say you can't catch them that way but I'm happier looking for a nice jb bite when it's this cold. Glad we still have open water considering this time last year is was stuck fishing warm water discharges shoulder to shoulder with yahoos!

Thanks for the diamond pegs idea, gonna get some of those and look to try them with senko on straight shank hooks. Glock hooks sometimes let me down.
