Tahatsu M9.9 B2/ Late 80's
Get a tach and make sure you are getting the correct rpm's. Check the prop and make sure you don't have any discarded line wrapped on the shaft. Unless there is absolutely nothing in the boat but you and the gas tank, I seriously doubt you are doing that kind of speed with a 9.9. Make sure you have the correct prop for that 9.9 as well. Have a tohatsu mechanic look at it. I tried to fix my fuel pump as well and ended up putting it on backward!! I have a " slightly modified 9.9" tohatsu as well.

Fishing With Heavy Boat Traffic
The problem on the water supply res I fish is not so much pleasure boaters but the row teams and chase boats! Nothing great about them plowing water two feet away from you when you are on the tm!! Then the singles and doubles, leisurely rowing along, backwards, not paying any attention. When you yell at them to pay attention they think it's all your fault for being in the way!! Rowers, not a big fan.

Any Suggestions For Replacing Treble Hooks On Crankbaits?
If you are going to start experimenting with switching treble hooks, invest in a good pair of split ring pliers!

Bull Run Marina?
I've been fishing the tx's since they started them and have been fishing there ever since. Pm me for some spots and lures to try! People are a bit protective about spots and patterns getting out on forums so I try not to broadcast things here. It is the place a lot of good sticks learned on because it offers so many diverse opportunities in one body of water that is not too large to cover with the right setup.

Just Got A New Rod And Reel Is This A Good Combo?
Yes, especially the reel!

Rejuvenade Saves The Day!!!
I've had mixed results with rejuvenade. For consistency, I still believe in catch n release. Just seems to work better for me in all weather and temperature conditions.

Bull Run Marina?
Been fishing the res for 20+ years and it will humble you at the drop of a hat! It will also amaze you 20 minutes later!!

Crankbait Rod Sugestion
Purchased the mojo big cranker and had my doubts at first. Had a hard time staying hooked up with fish. Changed line to 14 floro and now I don't want to fish with any other stick! I think if you find a rod that you are comfortable with and refine your line and baits, you will be happy

Bull Run Marina?
The tx on Sunday was a blast, new record with 27+ lbs! Thought we did well with 17+! caught fish in a lot of places with a lot of different presentations. People, like you said, get frustrated and leave but that place has alot of good fish. Good luck learning the res and a map is a good place to start.

Stren Fluorocast
Depends on what you use it for. Open water it's fine, not sure I'd recommend you use smaller diameter in sticky stuff!

Northern Virginia
Had some awsome smallie days fishing from the bank under the walking bridge 3+ lbs for about an hour one time!! Some times it's on, others, not so much. Try it when it's cooler! You will need a D.C liscense

Overheating Issue
Sounds to me like a carb issue. If you cannot run it under load in gear and you have to pull the choke. Looks like an air cooled motor as well. Was it "peeing" thru the holes in the past?
-
Microguides ?
Wouldn't be able to fish a microguide rod in the winter.

Northern Virginia
Look at Roosevelt island around the walking bridge if you are in the ballston area and four mile run has a good area under the rt 1 bridge tho it's better in my opinion in the colder months

Transmission Oil
Maybe some of the OMC guys will chime in but I would do some research and find the right marine grade lube specifically formulated for your outboard.

Transmission Oil
I agree about doing things yourself and that being a great learning tool. I'm sure that you at least "glanced" at the instructions when doing work on your jeep! Like crab said above, the reason you fill it from the bottom up is to insure you have the correct amount of gear oil in the lower unit and the incorrect amount of oil will be costly!

Transmission Oil
Look for omc online and follow the instructions given by the manufacturer. If you need something special to change the oil, get it! Just don't half-*** it. Quickest way in the world to ruin something is to not know what you are doing and try to do it anyway. My read............ epic fail......
