  1. I'm not sayin' I enjoy chuckin' the mini senkos, but if thats what you're getting the bites on and you catch good fish on them from time to time, why not let others know so they may see how it works for them. I always thought this was a place to find out how others faired and how they approached the "outing" to find and catch fish no matter how big or small. LHC, I think the spirit in which you post is spot on, shimmy...... look at it from that perspective. I prefer throwing larger baits as well and hope for just a couple of bigger bites. No harm in numbers as opposed to size, that why I like apples and someone else might like oranges
  2. I'd say that LHC is out there trying to get bit. That beats working or sitting on ones buttocks any time. All I can say is " elephants eat peanuts".
  3. Very nice get. Super clean. Please keep me in mind if you do decide to replace that TM. Those beauties run forever and are pretty near bulletproof!
  4. That truly is unfortunate, but we all have to make sure that we are familar with our surroundings when on the water and due diligence is required. Are maps redily availible for that area? Are there channel markers? Not having fished that area, I would do everything in my power to keep my passengers, boat, and myself safe. I am also of the opinion that DGIF should do more to keep navigable waterways safe for all that use them. You can bet your . if that were to have happened to anyone with a sailboat or pleasure boater we would have had all kinds of markers areund those barges!!
  5. South fla......... Bwhaaaaa haaaaaaa. I get jokes!! I think Aaron is looking for stripers. Pay attention to the places that pull fast current as someone mentioned. Also look for places that funnel water into places with ambush spots and very little avenue for escape for the bait. Creek mouths, bridge pilings, points with sharp drops etc. Try to look for current break and quick water. The river for stripers is better as the water cools and better with moving water. Swim baits and rattle baits work best with the occasional fish on blade.
  6. Picked up the flipping pitching 8 footer last week. Only fished with it a couple of times and it feels pretty good. A bit top heavy with a revo stx. Need a little more time with it to give you a good honest review, but to this point not bad for $90! It's got good backbone and a nice bit of tip. Need to whack a terd on it to get some good feedback. Looked at the others(found them at my Dicks) and wouldn't mind a couple of the other length and actions for other tactics. Overall they seem to be a quality product for the price. Just wish it wasn't so undenieably yellow!!
  7. Nice work Aaron. I know you spent a lot of time to get exactly the right result. It probably was very tempting to skimp or cut corners, especially being the end of summer break and being on such a good bite on the river. I saw the motor back on the boat and thought "very impressive, he took his time and did it right". Congratulations and have good time enjoying your new transom!!
  8. Size. Not one to keep any, not that it's a bad thing. I think Huntsman needs all the keeper size bass intact. The blugill however should be kept or chucked up on the bank, waaaay too many of those little buggers in there!!
  9. Went to Huntsman today, not expecting to do much of anything but loose a couple of pounds to the blazing sun!! I was very wrong. I whacked 'um pretty good. Caught about 10 fish with the big one about 3.5lbs!! Not bad for about 2 hours of drenching sweat from about 3-5 pm. I will tell everyone how once I try this again on the res. It's very simple and I wish I could tell you but its not really mine to tell. I promised a friend I would give this a shot and if it worked I would have to keep it under wraps for a while. Sorry to brag and not divuldge, but in due time, I will.
  10. 7 at least to my knowledge. Some of these are not much brush and much more pile (cinder blocks)
  11. Ahhhhh, that's where time spent looking is esential!! Or you can go to the office and see if they have any maps of the lake. Go to the VGIF site and look at the map they have. Otherwise I have given a map to Andrew and he may be able to make a copy for you. It has quite a few piles that are not known to many folks.
  12. Go down by the transportation museum. The Roanoke river runs right along side. Nice smallmouth in the pools and riffles. Small tubes and plastics. Report back and have fun
  13. Nice work. Glad you were able to make the best of a potentially ugly day!! Seems like you got a good handle on the river. Don't stop exploring it and trying new stuff.
  14. All of you guys "playing in the weeds". Get yourselve a nice fine file and take a few swipes at the leading edge of the blades. You may need to do this often if you are a daily weed guy! Just a tip from your old uncle quan!!!
  15. How far you willing to walk?
  16. Most of the tx's on the river are won with a 5 fish limit weighing 20lbs, so you better have a good 4lb average or get a couple of bigger kicker fish to keep you in the mix. Big fish in the tx's start at about 7lbs. I would keep your spot close to the vest as well, I don't think any one would blame you!! Nice fish!!
  17. Being a locksmith myself, I can tell you that it's not a huge deal. Find your local locksmith that has a storefront location and they should be able to "impression" a new key for you. Same key for lockers as ignition?? If so and you have a lockable storage open, remove the lock and take it to the lock shop and have them make a key. Hope this helps
  18. Sweet work Matt. College??? Local???? You gonna make an appearance Sunday??
  19. Very nice bag yesterday guys! Very surprised you are able to get on that nice of a bite in the super dirty water. We had a couple of nice fish come unbuttoned(3lbr throw a blade and an unknown fish of size make a mad dash under a tree). All in all very happy with 15+ lbs. It's all about time on the res = consistancy. Been fishing the tx on the res since the begining and always amazed at how things change each and every year. Keep up the good work guys. The big fun is fishing the classic at the end of the year, every one starts with 0.00 lbs! Rally.......... Pm me if you would
  20. A buddy and I were fishing the mouth of Hooes earlier around 11 am. Saw a couple of guys in a glass boat crappie fishing..... I wonder????? Anyone that fishes the res regularly knows that if you have had a big downpour for a couple of days, the water will be moving and and high. Especially around the dam. It would have to be quite the mistake of running too close to the edge if you could not tell that a lot of water was moving over the dam. Glad no one was seriously injured but it just goes to show, you always need to pay attention to your surroundings on the water, especially if it's new to you!!
  21. Pickerel. I've caught tons of them. Havnt been out there in a while but you could really whack a bunch of them years ago. I would think that there are some citation size piks available. Problem with Mercer is sooooo much forage!!
  22. Burke Lake is full of large fish. Bass, muskie, walleye. I used to fish Burke twice a week 15 years ago and can tell you things have changed a bit since then. Water clarity is the biggest change, next would be the amount of fertilzer that runs off into the lake. Believe me those big fish still exsist. My favorite time to fish Burke is December! Big fish all together in the brush piles. Next best time would be dead of summer at night, clearer water makes the daytime bite tough at times. Let me know if anyone needs more help at Burke
  23. Your best bet is gravelly. It's big and free. Bellhaven is an option but it's narrow and can be tricky. Keep to gravelly and you should be in good shape. Haven't had much luck fishing the actual point on hanes but I guess it's posible. Also look in the anacostia going in on the right hand bank, right around the first boat dock. It's small but it's the only one along that wall. It's got some deep water in the front but is a very nice spot. Jigs and plastic all over it and just above it along the wall. Caught and lost some very good fish there.
  24. Channel will be fine by then. It takes quite the flooding for the channel to get as dirty as the main river. You could go in there today and find good water.
