  1. I was watching Kevin Van Dam teach the "flipping technique" on "The Bass Pros" tv show on Versus the other day.... He was using a baitcaster, and when I watched him do this, I couldnt tell if he ever dis-engaged the spool to cast. When I first started watching, I saw these short flipping casts and couldnt figure out how he was hitting his spot with no hard casting and NO BACKLASH. So I got to thinking that maybe he was only flipping what line he had out and never engaged the spool. which is it? casting softly or swinging your lure to your spot since there wasnt a lot of room to do a full out cast?
  2. it is a good thing that this package has been on the slow boat......think about it......... by the time the lure swap is complete, spring will be here and everyone can start using there new possessions no need to "dream" and wish you could use them ;D
  3. i couldnt tell you how many belly flops i have seen on these shows...................... >
  4. Again, after watching a few of the fishing shows on Versus as well as the Sportsman channel I have a couple questions about the way things are done...... I notice that the anglers on these shows, when setting a hook, they pull on there rod as if they have Moby Dick on the end of there line. Is there really a reason to set the hook that hard? Now keeping in mind that the majority of them are fishing for SM/LM bass. So sure there are a few that are 5,6 and 7 pounds. But I dont see it to be so big they have to set the hook so hard. I dont know how the hook doesnt get ripped out of the fish's mouth. Is that impossible to do? I hear that you can "tear the hook out" if setting to hard, but they certainly dont seem to have this issue. I cant imagine there is that much stretch in thier lines that forgives the aggressive hook set. Am I wrong? (heres my vent) - I notice the majority of the shows I watch, when these anglers (names i dont recall) catch a fish of any size or type.....they all release them in different ways. I see some gently place them in the water as if to say "thank you, it was fun" or "thanks for playing".....Then the next guy I see will be having a conversation about something or another and they throw the fish overboard as if to say, "ah well.....NEXT" or "not worth talking about" and over there shoulder it goes without any care in the world about that fish. Is there really a reason to throw them back in like they dont matter? Then there are some anglers that will lean over there boat, hold the fish by the mouth and set them in the water and hold them there until they know that fish is ready to go. Then they watch the fish swim away.......to me, that angler cares......I realize not everyone catches/releases the same way but some of these releases are very careless. You would think with it being a fishing show, that is seen by viewers everywhere that they would be concience about the realeasing ways. but then again, one anglers way of releasing is different from the next........who's to say any way is "right" or "wrong"
  5. that would be an awesome idea!!!!! along with a "Tackle Party" (just like a tupperware party but for tackle)
  6. The Rooster knows my take on all this and with all the responses ive read I was hoping somewhere in this mix, there'd be a little LOVE for the Abu Garcia 502albi that he returned.....but nothing. not even a hint!!!! :'( Hail Abu!!! ;D
  7. Alot of anglers like to use 2 piece rods mainly cause they are easier to transport. i prefer the one piece rods. but some of the highest price/quality rods come in two pieces...... mainly a preference..... if i am incorrect, please let me know
  8. thats a good idea.....i have never fished a spoon and was considering it this year to see what happens.....i suppose i could steal some of my daughters clear nail polish and coat them....she'll love that! ;D
  9. thank you for that...i will look into it 8-)
  10. i have never fished tubes before other than crappie tubes. I am looking forward to fishing with bass tubes this year. I was looking on BPS and Cabelas sites and came across the ones int he first thread......BPS doesnt carry tubes with eyes nor do they have the same look. so i figured what the heck!! look good but smell bad . i will definitley post back here when i have fished and if i have success....scratch that.....WHEN I HAVE SUCCESS ;D
  11. i purchased a tube kit from cabelas for the upcoming season and i was checking them out a little closer and noticed that they are not covered in salt nor are they scented. they actually smell like 100000% plastic/rubber. has anyone purchased these and sprayed a scent on them like garlic or coffee etc....? how does it work? http://www.cabelas.com/product/Bargain-Cave/Fishing/Soft-Baits%7C/pc/105591780/c/105740280/sc/105744780/Cabelas-Flat-Tire-31-Piece-Tube-Kit/704193.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fbargain-cave-fishing-soft-baits%2F_%2FN-1102772%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105744780%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253Bcat105591780%253Bcat105740280&WTz_l=SBC%3Bcat105591780%3Bcat105740280%3Bcat105744780
  12. is there additional cost for having to obtain a new title?
  13. I know this may depend on state regulations but then again maybe not.... lets say you buy a used boat and the person you bought it from did not have a title for it.... what do you do? you have to have a title in order to register it......right? how do you show a title that does not exist? i am still shopping for a boat but i have seen a lot of people selling boats that have no title.........wanted to know what i was getting into before committing.
  14. I upgraded my Extremem Baitcasting rod to a Shimano Crucial last year. Excellent rod. Super sensitive and light. I have a 6'-6" MH/F. i use it for all lures!!! i would highly recommend.
  15. does anyone know if they make a FLUTTER spoon 1/4-3/8oz in weight?
  16. i have been watching some fishing shows recently and they have been mentioning flutter spoons or fluttering spoons. would anyone have an idea of what kind of spoon they are using? I have searched flutter spoon as well as fluttering spoon at BPS and the search comes up empty. Im thinking that this type of spoon would be great in winter time. could anyone post a link to where i can find this type of spoon? :-[
  17. I break the rules badly...rather than having a reel/rod set up for each type of fishing i have two set ups...period. a baitcaster for spinners, cranks, softs and top water and a spinning outfit for the same but i use this when im wading i use one type of line for both set ups...(different lb test of course) i never have a problem catching fish no matter which set up i use.... 2 set ups and im set
  18. hm.....who would have thought?? thanks for the clarification.......i will try the 8lb test and see what happens :
  19. please explain.... If i normally get 12lb test of the yo-zuri hybrid, which is .013" diameter, how does me getting 8lb test in the Pline Cxx (same diameter as the 12lb yo zuri) make it the same? the 8lb test is rated for 8lb test regardless of the diameter...right? i would still use the same lb test regardless of the diameter right? :-/
  20. i agree, i recently received a st croix catalog int he mail and it has MADE IN THE USA written all throughout!!!
  21. thanks road warrior!! i use yo-zuri cause of you!! : ;D
  22. i recently shipped a 7' rod via ups a couple states away for $7. couldnt beat that. ohio - maryland
  23. i was starting to wonder if i was doing something wrong for using yo-zuri for EVERYTHING. i see the advantage of using braid for heavy cover, but the heavy cover does not exist in my fishing waters.
  24. That's what happens when that nasty white crap falls from the sky and the water gets hard. Fisherman spend their time online reading through page after page of reviews, rethinking their entire arsenal of rods/reels, and every single lure in their tackle boxes. ;D i 2nd that!!! ;D
