  1. thank you for the advice. i expected that response but figured id ask. i do have a shimano crucial for my BC set up and the rod that im looking to get is for my micro lite set up which i will use for wading. well, i think i will definitley go the st. croix route. didnt realize it had a 5 year warranty on it. that works for me!! one last question. how much of a difference is there from using a Light Action rod compared to a Light action? is the difference noticeable?
  2. hey all. hope everyone had a great holiday!! for christmas, a BPS gift card fell into my lap. since it is "free" money, im wanting to purchase a new wading rod. i am contimplating a BPS Microlite rod or a St. Croix Triumph rod. obviously there is about a $30 difference between the two. would i be wise to save $40 and buy the BPS version or should i not sacrifice the cost and buy the st. croix?? both rod specs are the same for both rods so im not losing out on one over the other. its coming down to quality and performance for the price. any advice which route to go? :-/
  3. hi all. Hope everyone had an awesome christmas.....Sants was quite nice to me this year!! one of the gifts i did receive was the new Rapala fishing game for PS3. i played that game for 4 hours straight last night. to me, it was quite fun. really enjoy it! heres the question. can you actually learn from a game any fishing techniques? are any of the strategies you have to use in the game worth anything in real life fishing? i am new to fishing (2 years) and still am trying to learn whats what and how to's. is a video game really a decent tool for learning how to work your lure? will it give you a good idea of what to do? (on a side note, what is "dead sticking"? in the game while im throwing out a lure, i can pick a few actions id like to use to change up the lure presentation. i pick, dead sticking and see what it does but i dont understand what it means.)
  4. closest to furthest a way sounds good to me (hee hee)
  5. hm, never thought of that. figured since i used a smaller head jig, that could only be used with tiny plastics such as grubs. never thought about putting a worm on it.......hmmmmm
  6. hi all. i usually fish jig heads when im fishing for panfish. whether it be with a small crappie tube or grub. (i am attaching a link to the type of jig head i am refering to). http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58629_100010006_100000000_100010000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL other than tubes and grubs, are there any other soft baits i can throw using this same head or am i pretty limited? i throw 1/16oz jig heads with the tubes and grubs any ideas, tips or advice would be appreciated.
  7. is anyone attending the tri-state fishing extravaganza this weekend in middletown, ohio? (December 4-5) im definitley going to be there saturday. it looks like there will be quite a few tackle manufacturers there. ones iv'e never heard of!! including some pro anglers!!! should be a blast!!!
  8. how's the winter bite so far?
  9. thanks for the input. I will check out the mediums and see how they feel in comparison. i normally use a baitcaster for my non-wading days and mainly use a spinning set up for wading due to all the grass/trees in my area, i dont have to worry about a backlash if i accidentally try and catch a tree. so the BC is for shore fishing only......
  10. Little Miami River as well as Great Miami River (Wading)
  11. i agree, i like the "flimsy" rod which adds a little more fun to the smallie action. i do have a MH rod which is like throwing a steel rod out in the water........huge backbone. i will check out the mediums next time i go to BPS and see how it feels id be using a AG cardinal 100ui for this new rod that i am looking to buy, so its like a panfish reel. i am currently using that cardinal on a beat up rod which is in dire need of being replaced with a new one (it is a light power/fast action rod, but less than 5'-6" in length.......which is where all this comes in. if anyone would like to recommend a rod that would be perfect for that reel, im all ears
  12. well, if i buy a microlite rod, then i cant throw my 1/4oz+ cranks.......trying to use an in the middle rod that i can use for all weight ranges i have.........(3/8oz max)
  13. thank you. i was trying to stay away from Microlite. i would like Light. i throw a lot of lures from 1/8oz to 3/8 so micro lite would be too small......
  14. oops, my mistake. yes you are correct, i will fix the post
  15. well, this is what im after: Light Power/Fast Action 6' or 6'-6" 1 Piece $40 or less good rod for the money......... This rod will be my Wading rod. I like the length. Manufacturer is not that crucial, i just dont want a junk rod.
  16. Has anyone ever bought a 2pc rod cause they couldnt find a 1pc rod in the right length/action and then turned around and glued it together to make it a "1 piece"? what did you use to "glue" it together and how has it held up?
  17. see...i dont understand. is there a reason why these light rods dont come in 1-piece set ups?
  18. Im pulling my hair out here looking for a Spinning Rod that is Light/Fast Action, 1 PIECE, that is priced under $50. I'd like i 5'-6" rod but the length is not that important. The rod will be used for wading and wading only. is this an impossible hunt? i have gone to Cabellas, Walmart, meijer and BPS. the ones i do find are 2 piece. i dont want that. anyone recommend anything that is a descent rod for the money ($50), in a 1 PIECE OUTFIT?
  19. like i said, i liked the rod, thought it was great. i dont like to have more than two set ups at all times. i dont fish from a boat so trying to carry more than 2 set ups is a hassle, IMO. i use my baitcasting set up for EVERYTHING and if the bass arnt biting, then i switch to my panfish set up and catch the blue gills and crappie .
  20. i guess im just looking at it as not being used and only sitting in my rod rack collecting dust. i have my REVO STX/Shimano Crucial set up and an ABU GARCIA CARDINAL 100ui set up and thats all i use. so the extreme rod has no purpose...............
  21. hmm, guess i need to keep that in mind. i have also tried trading it at one point but again, no luck........ hmmm, wonder if i could clean it up really well and return it to BPS for an in store credit ;D, that would be wrong!
  22. I bought an Extreme rod at BPS when i was first learning to fish a baitcaster last winter. In my opinion, i thought it was a really nice set up. Never had any issues with it. after my first year, i decided to upgrade the extreme set up for a REVO STX/Shimano Crucial Rod. I have since sold my Extreme baitcaster but cant get rid of the rod for the life of me. the rod is $100 NEW, i have tried selling mine for $50. Is the price im trying to sell for too high? Are there a lot of people that use the Extreme rods? Wasnt sure if i was trying to sell "junk" on the market or a very nice rod in a lot of peoples opinion. :-/
