  1. Hello all I wasnt sure where to place this thread so i threw it in general..............BUT i came across this website earlier and wanted to know if anyone could say whether this site is for real or not. I read the Q and A section and it all seems legit. There is a phone number/contact information for customer support. here is the link, please let me know what you think. id like to make sure im not going to get screwed if and when i place an order. i really like the prices though www.lakesidereels.com
  2. please correct me if im wrong BUT......................... i noticed that the Curado E7 has 7 bearings. the higher the bearing count the better, right? I noticed that some reels have 7-11 bearings. shouldnt someone go for the most bearings? would it make that much of a difference?
  3. good point ksbasser. as i mentioned before i am still a newbie to fishing and the extreme reel that i currently have has never had any issues so i never had to have it serviced. i didnt realize that some places quit carrying parts for the older reels. that would be a huge problem!! so, with that, are all manufacturers that way or is abu one of the selected few on carrying parts?
  4. thanks for the feedback thus far. although i am still new to fishing (first year), i am still learning what the good brands are within a decent amount of cash. i noticed that you mentioned Revo reels. i can only read about the reels in the catalog and compare functions. without actually having th money to buy a few reels to seew hich one i like better, i usually have to settle for one and hope for the best. in the 100-200 price range, would anyone disagree about the Revo reel being the best bet? i know this is directing this thread in another dorection but i am always open to shifting towards another brand other than BPS. thanks again for everyones help. it is greatly appreciated. I hope to have my choice finalized come BPS fiahing show. right now i am looking at purchasing the Shimano Crucial rod. now i need to find a reel
  5. thanks for the feedback, i must say that is one flaw that i am noticing with this Extreme reel. most of the time when im fishing and tying my lure to the line, the top of the reel will knock against the rocks and the top seriously looks like i drug it down the road going 50 miles an hour. its an eye soar but it still works the way it should!!!
  6. As a lot of you know, BPS is having there annual fishing show in FEB/MAR and i was in my planning stages of what to upgrade in my arsenal. i came across this baitcasting reel. has anyone used this reel or does anyone have it that can lend some positive/negative information on it? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104089_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 as of right now, i am using the BPS Extreme Baitcaster (6:4:1). I have had no problems at all but considering a really nice upgrade
  7. I just received my copy of the BPS annual Premium Fishing Tackle Master Catalog 2010 in the mail today. As i browsed through the first two pages, I noticed a two page advertisement for the Fishing/Boat show classic that they have every FEB/MAR. That got me wondering, do any of you plan for this annual trip and start saving for it? This is a BIG yes for me!!!!
  8. Well today i was going to a local fishing lake with hopes of making a quick stop at the bass pro shop..................................which i did. after browsing the store for about an hour, i decided to try my luck with crappie fishing. i normally use a baitcaster and fish mainly for BASS. so i bought a $20 Zebco, closed reel crappie rod/reel combo. bought a pack of tubes and a 1/16oz jig to go with it and off i went to try my luck this was just an ironic day out. i threw out my normal crank/topwater with my baitcaster..................................nothing. decided to give my crappie rod a try. who would have thought, i pulled the largest Largemouth out I have caught to date. it wasnt a 5 pounder or anything like that but definetly a nice one. wait a minute, arn't crappie rods meant for panfish or small fish of the sort? dont the bass realize this? i realize a catch is a catch but i was so expecting a little panfish.............................not a panfish X10!!!! very cool though heading out again in the morning and we'll see what happens then!! :D
  9. thanks for the advice. i usually throw cranks that dive no more than 3' as well as some top waters. i was going to try and change it up a bit and throw something new. i do have some rat'l'traps but have never had luck. i will keep trying though. thanks again guys spose i could try some spinners
  10. thanks catt. if i am fishing in 3' of water max, what would be the best way to suspend these so i wouldnt get snagged on the rocks below? (bobber?)
  11. BPS sells a spoon called "The little George" which is made by Mann's. they sell them in 1/4oz and 1/2oz. I was thinking of using them for some fall/winter fishing. has anyone ever used these? also, i am attaching the link to this lure so you can see what im asking, but, how would you tie onto these. snap or direct tie? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15454?hvarTarget=search&hvarAID=&cmCat=10010072#reviews
  12. i will try that, thanks. will poppers be a great lure for the whole Fall season? Should i change lures the later it gets into the Fall season? i have never fished fall season before so this is my first. im just going by what i read. thanks for the advice
  13. i have a question about setting the hook while using top water lures. today while i was out fishing i was throwing my normal everyday crankbaits, caught a few largemouth all was well. well, a couple days back i received the latest issue of Ohio Game and Fish magazine. In the magazine they talked about lures that worked well in the Fall season. they mentioned cranks and top waters. as i continue, i thought to myself, well lets see if the magazine knows what its talking about. so i went ahead and threw out my Heddon Mini Torpedo. I ripped it in a few times................nothing. so i threw it out again and decided for some reason start jerking it and treating it as a popper. BAM, i got a nice sized Smallmouth with it. Released the SM and continued fishing it the same way. nothing. then i decided to change the lure, and i threw on a BPS XPS Professional Series Topwater Hardbaits - Popper. I have tried this out in the past but never got a single hit. so i gave it up till this afternoon. today was a totally different story. ilike the 3rd time i threw this out, i started getting hit hard. cast after cast, fishing were slamming it like crazy. the problem was i NEVER landed a single fish. i couldnt figure out what i was doing wrong. as soon as theyd hit, i would set the hook....................nothing. lost it. is there a specific time/way to set the hook when using top water poppers??? it was a blast seeing this ruckus but it was dissapointing never bringing anything in. any help? :'(
  14. i actually fish every saturday/sunday of every weekend, about 3 hours each time. if not in the morning, i go a few hours before the sun sets. best thing about it. Nobody really complains that i fish, it gives me something to do and it makes me happy. even if they dont fish, they give me no greif except when the bait monkey pulls at my sleeve most of the time, my wife is sleeping when i leave for fishing and when i get back she is just waking up. so nothing is missed and she can sleep in!!!!
  15. scratch that last question. i found the tool and i will size down the front treble hook and hopefully wont have the issue again!! thanks
  16. thanks BIG M. i had a Bomber square a lure a while back that someway or another lost its front treble hook and split ring. i went to transfer the split ring and treble from another lure to the bomber and found that the split ring was very easy to bend. it never went back to its normal shape. is there an easy wa yto do this so that the ring does not get all bent up? since they are really small to pull apart, is there a tool to use that dsoes this rather easily?
  17. I love using this lure but i have one consistant problem that im hoping you have a fix for. when fishing this lure i find more times than not, that i have to untanlge the treble hooks. its like they are so close together, if i hit a rock or a tree limb, then hooks end up getting tangled with each other. does anyone else have this problem? is there a tweak or a modification that you can make to avoid this? here is the lure: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_51816____SearchResults
  18. one more thing to add. not sure if it matters but my main fishing style are cranks and top waters.
  19. Right now, i am using an Extreme (60 Million) Baitcasting Rod/Reel and was thinking about upgrading the rod to a Carrot Stix. (or something very sensitive that wont break the bank) Is there a Carrot Stix that is designed for baitcasting specifically? Right now my rod is 6'6", Lure Weight 3/8-1oz, Line Weight 10-20lb, Power MH, Fast Action I wouldnt mind getting a rod that could go to 1/8-1/4 oz minimum up to 1 oz maximum.
  20. To all, Overstockbaits.com is selling ratletraps for $2.79 each!!!!!! they certainly wont last long at this price!! i just bought 5 of them. http://www.overstockbait.com/Discount_Fishing_Tackle_s/463.htm
  21. I was out a few weeks ago and landed two fish on one crank bait. its like they were both racing for the same lure and BAM, got'em both!! i have never had this happen before.
  22. basswitch, although i have never fished in the lakes your talking about............................go to this website. there are plenty of people that have fished those lakes. good luck http://www.ohiogamefishing.com/community/
  23. any recommendations for a fishing game on ps3?
