  1. Cool. I wanna get some for the palm plate, cast control bearing, and drive shaft bearing for the Revo I'm working on.
  2. It look like ALL parts interchange with the revo. All the levelwind components, the main gear, drag components, pinion gear and pinion holder, all the thumb bar components, etc, etc. What is made of Duralumin on the Patriarch? Just the main gear? main and pinion? Driveshaft? What parts did you swap in? Are they much lighter (the main brass gear seems VERY heavy to me)
  3. Crazy thing is those kids with their language and what not, still hold their big bass more 'right' than most adult anglers do. Where are parents nowadays to put a foot in their kids butts for talking like that.
  4. Another vote for Falcon Lowrider. A Lowrider was the first good rod I bought. I wish I would have kept it. It's still a nice rod after all these years (sold it to my sister in law) I have one of the new XG's I use for hard jerkbaits and wouldn't get rid of it for anything. Length and action are perfect for me.
  5. I know everyone knows that the BPS reels are Pflueger or Pure fishing built.... But if you pull apart a BPS Extreme, and a Abu Revo they are the same d**n reel. Most parts interchange it looks like. I know for sure that the handles, drag stars, gears, and drag components interchange. So while most here think Shimano is the greatest thing since the invention of a woman, I think most wouldn't consider a Revo 'junk'. The only thing an Extreme lacks is real quality bearings (which most production reels lack) and some aluminum components (drag star) The are a very upgradeable reel. The gear swap thing may be a way for 6.4.1 geared Abu guys to get a set of cheap 7.1 gears. And the BPS guys can use the info to upgrade the drag washers, and handles. What I really want is a set of Duralumin gears in 7.1 that will fit in the Revo. The Johnny Morris Signature series has them, but it has the screw on handle. Which changes the drive shaft. I'm not sure if it changes the actual gears or not. The Revo when broken down is actually pretty light. That main gear and drag stack adds a bunch of weight to the reel. Their is a Revo Aurora JDM reel that has 7.1 duralumin gears but they are in LH configuration.
  6. I agree. Plus it isn't as clean looking as a reel without one.
  7. At first I was thinking the same thing....I assume you forgot to unscrew the thumb screw on the handle side?
  8. I agree. I like a longer rod too. That's why I haven't bought the Loomis DSR. I don't think I would like an XF rod though. I do think some rods XF is alot faster than other companies XF. A dropshot rod to me would need to be extra sensitive. I like to really feel the bottom, and feel any differences in the bottom....In the end, I guess I'd like to find a GLX DSR.
  9. Everyone makes out as though a Loomis isn't any good unless you buy the rods for $300-400. If that's the case I would question whether Loomis rods are all they are cracked up to be. When there are so many other 'good' rods out there for much less than the GLX and even IMX rods. FWIW I think the species specific rods I own or have used work just fine. I've said it before but I'll reiterate. The lengths, powers, and actions are unmatched by anyone else. The warranty and customer service reputation is just icing on the cake. One thing I simply can't understand though is spending $200 plus for a crankbait or spinnerbait rod. That baffles me. I've not fished with either but they would have to make the perfect power/action crankbait rod for 'me', before I would even consider it.
  10. I used an old school Falcon Lowrider (non XG-brownish colored blank) for a long time. 7' MH Switched to a BPS Elite. 7'6 MH XF. This rod is really light and super sensitive. I don't like how long the handle is. It would be perfect for me if the handle was shortened a few inches. Due to the shorter length my jig rod next year will be a BCR 853 Mossyback Loomis... 7'1 MH XF. I don't use the heavy sticks many do, and end up using 3/8oz jigs the most....Sometimes deep water drag with 1/2oz-3/4 oz jigs. I NEVER flip. Water is to clear up here to flip successfully....Pitch alot. Swim jigs, and drag footballs. A MH rod is perfect for me. A few more general ideas of mine. Rod needs to be sensitive so you can feel what the jig is doing. For pitching a shorter handle works much better as a long handle can be cumbersome, and catch on clothes etc. Needs to be balanced very well. My definition of balanced may be different. I use those hideous BPS slip on balancers to balance the rod just right. Light. Because of the way you hold the rod, and work the jig, a heavy rod when jigging will produce much more wear and tear on the fisherman than a heavy crankbait or spinnerbait rod.
  11. Ever fish with a J/M Elite? At full retail you can't find more rod per $$ even at $200. UH I think if i was going to spend 200 on a rod i would buy a Shimano Cumara way before i ever thought about a jm elite... sic guides lifetime warranty, and super hard to beat at any price point... no if the jm elite went on sale for like 100 bucks i would think about it... So you have not fished with one I take it? If it's so great, why do you want to sell it? Just a thought. Because I got a good deal on a rod whose length matched what I wanted better. And I already had one of the same brand. Selling this one would enable me to buy another of the same brand, to help build an arsenal with the same feel......By being the same brand.
  12. I've used line before some say is garbage and loved it (Y/Z hybrid) I've used line some love and that was garbage (power pro) My brother has been using 8lb Vicious all year with no problems.....He does use those big spool BPS spinning reels...While not my cup of tea they do reduce memory and twist. I tested the stuff and it broke just a little over 8lb. Had low impact resistance compared to mono. Less stretch than mono. I used 100% Flouro. It's more expensive but if you use a backer of cheap line, it isn't that bad. Had mixed results.

  14. Does the citica have bushings in place of bearings in certain locations when compared to the Curado? The Citica has so few bearings, it seems like you could really smooth it out swapping bushings for bearings. ('IF' that is possible) Ignoring that possibility it seems like when 'tuned' the revo might have an advantage due in part to the higher bearing count. I'll bet a bearing swap on those reels really smooths things out. There is also a lower line capacity light weight spool, with upgraded centrifugal breaks available for the Revo's for about $83 currently.
  15. I contacted Plat about getting some Revo tuning parts from Purefishing japan. A light weight/centrifugal spool was about $83. Not the cheapest thing, but I don't think that's double what we would pay here (Like that reel is)
  16. Ever fish with a J/M Elite? At full retail you can't find more rod per $$ even at $200.
  17. Some Daiwa handles will fit onto Abu Garcia reels. So Abu handles should fit Daiwa reels. For an inexpensive alternative look to Mikesreelrepair.com The sell an inexpensive Abu Garcia handle. Not sure if it will work for you or not. I do know that and Daiwa handle that fits the Steez will also fit an Abu Revo
  18. I think I'm in the minority on this one.... After buying into the whole split grip, no front grip "look" last winter....... I'm sick of the no front/split grip look. Everyone is trying to look the same, and it's already old IMO. You should be able to build a light rod and KEEP a real handle. The new swept handle trend in reels I really like though.
  19. Sounds like it could be another option for a great rod for those not wanting to spend a ton of money.
  20. In thinking about this thread I've come to the conclusion that the baitcaster really is more versatile. It just seems like even spinning tackle presentations can be accomplished on baitcasting equipment. And it isn't visa versa. I can't see pitching a jig with a spinning rod, and I honestly can't stand using moving baits with a spinning rod. Cranks etc.
  21. The other combo I wish I had was the one I caught my first fish on an artificial on. It was a grey colored pistol grip rod with a rubber grip and no fore grip. Had a Daiwa spin cast reel on it.... I was fishing with a small renowski perch colored minnow swimbait thing that had a willow type blade on it. Like a rooster tail but with a small soft plastic perch colored minnow body. I even remember the lake and where at I caught it. It was a little 12" bass. I must have been about 8. I wonder if others remember their first artificial catch.
  22. Loomis GLX BCR 853. Abu Revo, Avail spool centrifugal, 7.1 Duralumin gears from the Akatsuki Elite, orange seal bearings, ceramic Pawl, BassArt carbon handle, Carbontex swept handle, custom anodized swept drag star, and a custom paint job. Some sort of half green/half bronze-ish color scheme to represent large and smallmouth bass. Yo-Zuri Hybrid, 10lb The reel is going to be a winter project. The rod....I'll just stick with the my Mossyback version of it. It would suck picking just one. I would miss having a spinning rod.
  23. What tackle do you have that means the most to you, and what is the story behind it? Mine: My father had a 6'9 Daiwa Musky rod with a Abu 6500c3 on it. It isn't something that was terribly expensive. I think the rod may have been $100-150 back in the early to mid 90's. Some of the fish my dad caught on it, and the times we spent fishing together........I can't fish with it. Hard to explain, other than to say it's more than a fishing rod. It's too bad when your a kid you don't truly value that kind of time like you do when you are older.
  24. My father has a custom rod built on a telescoping St Croix blank...It's a REALLY nice rod. It was built as a light duty Musky rod. So some of the components add more weight than it would have if a bass rod. Sensitivity is fine, but it is quite heavy.
  25. I know where you can get one. WAY under cost of new...
