  1. OSU fo sho. Michigan is nowhere near the team the Buckeyes are. OSU 31-17
  2. hey Dom. Haven't gotten it yet. will let you know asap when it arrives.
  3. Save your arms and switch out from dd22's to rapala dt-16's. The lip is alot thinner and sharper so it gets down there faster and its just alot easier to reel in than the dd22
  4. It might, but I had to say no on this one. Winter is a time to scale down and finesse fish in my eyes. I like taking tiny baits, putting them on tiny weights, and just throw them out and shake it the whole time. Once that water hits the 40's those fish are really sluggish and I just dont think a buzzbait would work as much as I would want it to. That would be so sick. Topwater hits while it was snowing.
  5. Keep your head up from now on. Open ice hits are nasty. Congrats on the offer man.
  6. Your an animal! Maybe I might trade that 55 for a trip to varner. :-?
  7. Download some songs by Bohagon. They BUMP. That is the absolute most ghetto rap out there.
  8. Like most people who have replied, I use 8-10lb test and will sometimes go up to 12. Although line size plays a huge role in getting the bait to a certain depth, I thought I would add this in. On most crankbaits, about 1/3 to 2/4 of the retrieve is the bait actually at the "target" depth. Now some baits dive steeper than others. I know that a Rapala DT-16 dives incredibly sharp compared to say a Norman DD22 which takes awhile to get down there. The last thing to add is a really long cast. The longer the cast, the more time in the strike zone. So light line, sharp divers, and loooonnnggg casts are what you need to get the most productivity out of your cranks.
  9. I just saw your other question on how long will it run on full speed. You will be surprised at how fast full speed sucks up battery. First off, it is not good to use a trolling motor as primary propulsion because they have no way of cooling themselves. I just had a 55 endura start smoking because I ran it on high for 45 minutes and the wires inside melted and killed the motor. If you need it for primary propulsion then you should only run it on high for up to 10 minutes at a time and then let it cool off. I know the 55's can run about 1 1/2 hours before it gets really slow. The 30's run a tad bit longer because they use less battery
  10. Matt, the big, yellow group 29 batteries from Wal-Mart and the DieHard battery series from Sears are both awesome and both are under $70. That is what most of the guys who fish the jon boat tournies use. As for your question, are you saying will the battery run 3 times a week on one full charge, or are you asking how long it will last if you charge it 3 times a week? If you were asking the first thing, then it depends on how hard you run the motor, but it wouldn't be good for the batteries. It is best to charge then immediatly after use because the battery cells are still "running" and will charge better. If you were asking the other thing, then it all depends on how you care for the battery. If you charge it 3 times a week, but not on a trickle charge then it will die quickly. Here's some things on battery maintenance.. 1) Always charge on a trickle charge. The battery cells really soak up alot more power and this alone will make the battery last so much longer. 2) Always charge them the second you get off the water 3) Always make sure there is enough water in the pools of the battery 4) Always make sure you have clean connections. Tarnish builds up over long periods of use, and the battery performs better if you clean the connections routinely with a wirebrush Hope this helps
  11. Bucket gave good advice, but I find that with topwaters, the faster the better. I rarely let a topwater sit for more than a second or two. I reel in poppers and sammy style baits violently, making it slash across the water like a fleeing baitfish. I have caught fish in up to 90ft of water doing this. It gets there attention and it doesn't give them time to determine wether its real or not. It's pure reaction strikes.
  12. I tie it on the shank. I dont like to tie it way up the shank either. I usually do it right behind the end of the bend. This only works if you spear your trailers like I do rather than threading them on the hook. Have you tried marabou yet? Bucktail was my favorite until I tried marabou and I saw its action while sitting still.
  13. I think I saw a post where Fluke and LBH said they are gonna have laptops with them
  14. Way to go Al!! I remember the thread last year when you were keeping track of how much money you were saving for the monkey. Although I forgot about it I was really pulling for you and was hoping and knowing that it would work out for you and you would kick it. When you move here, you let me know. We gotta get out to varner asap.
  15. Inside Line by Gary Yamamoto and FLW Outdoors are both great magazines. If your not looking to learn much but enjoy looking at page after page of advertisements, then bassmaster and bassin are for you!
  16. Randall, I think your right about the drum being better for high pressure trap situations. I know that the drum has a tungsten rattle and that gives it the lower noise. It's definately worth the money.
  17. My favorite bluegill skirt has black on the top, purple and green sides, and a few orange strips on the bottom. If you put this on a head that has matching colors it looks awesome. Strike King makes a real good BG skirt
  18. One thing I will sometimes do to improve it just a little more is replace the front treble with a red #4 gammy or owner treble. You will hook alot more fish. If your fishing in really heavy veggies, then replace the front hook with a #1 treble and take off the back hook. I really like red on my baits but thats your choice on whether you think it catches more fish or not
  19. my favorite clear water color by yo-zuri is black/silver and my favorite muddy water color is hot tiger. I really dig the hooks on these baits though
  20. The Yo-Zuri Vibe is my favorite trap to. Other than the Spro aruku shad, these are the only ones I throw. I really like the shad and firetiger patterns. They come with good hooks, the paint never chips, and there super loud. Glad to see someone likes them as much as I do.
  21. I've never used the putty, but I know that if you get weighted golfing tape you get more for the money. I think a pack of suspenstrips go around $5 but you get about double the ammount for the price if you get the golf tape.
  22. You can use a 5/0 on the tora tube. I use a #1 owner rig n' hook on 7" trick worms and have no problems hookin up. But a #1 is necesarry for me to get more action from my trick worm. A large hook doesnt hinder a tubes action so it doesn't matter if you go up. So even though a 5/0 is fine, an 11/0 is even better.
  23. Really I have learned that a big weight can be put together using finesse techniques. Small jigs, Split shot rigs, jighead worms, small crankbaits, small spinnerbaits, and dropshot all put together to catch big fish. I also got alot of confidence in big sammys and big buzzbaits
  24. Jigs- After trimming some of the fibers of my jig's weedgaurd, I will fan it out. It makes it more weedless because it covers more angles of stuff getting past it, and the thinned out fibers are easy to penetrate when setting the hook. I will also tie marabou or bucktail on the shank of my jig for some situations. Most of the time I fish my jigs without a rattle. Buzzbaits- I sometimes replace the skirts on my buzzbaits with staflash skirts. There translucent and it makes the fish focus more on the head of the bait. This is really good in clear water. Spinnerbaits- Of course, always have a trailer hook and the same for buzzbaits to. I will switch the blades on my willow spinnerbaits to smaller willow blades to allow me to reel it in faster without it rolling over. If I want to add more speed I bend the whole spinner arm in towards the head to make it more compact and I do the opposite to make it slower. I will sometimes tie marabou or bucktail or flashabou to the shank of the hook. I have even glued rattles to the back of colorado blades. Poppers- I always have a split ring. I always have a feathered treble on the back and a red treble on the front. I will paint the bottom gill of the bait with red nail polish if there isnt already red there. Sometimes I will replace the front hook with a lighter wire hook so that it sits higher in the water. If the lip is to cupped I will shave it down with a dremel to make it walk easier.
