  1. My style is dictated by how much time I have to fish which has been very little since the beginning of July. I just finished three months of work on the Sprint Center network in Kansas City so my time on the water has been limited. The first concert for the venue was this past weekend so I'm ready for some vacation and some water time. Anyway, when I don't have much time, I'm trying to find fish quickly so I'm throwing spinnerbaits and crankbaits in a power fishing mode to locate fish. If I find them I'll switch over to plastics or a jig and fish slower. If I'm not able to coax a strike in power fishing mode I'll slow down and throw plastics tight to cover on structure. When I have lots of time, more of it is spent fishing deeper structure slowly.
  2. Boondocks, you are correct. It is the way this site is run that keeps it from becoming a free-for-all. And some of us don't agree 100 percent with where the line is drawn in cutting off threads to make sure of this. (See the Closed Posts thread in the Everything Else forum.) I am one of those who disagrees to a minor extent. The great thing is Glenn has the dignity and wisdom to allow us to question his policy in the Closed Posts thread without cutting off the debate. He sticks to his guns but he does give our suggestions consideration. I think that is all you can ask for. This is not meant to be a bubbly "everything is wonderful" post. It is a statement of fact, and this fact is one of the reasons I respect those who run these forums.
  3. So in another words it's pretty much about presentation/temptation to the fish to bite that lure. bass here have a thing for hotdogs....i'm not kidding they love hotdogs here. And sometimes it's not even about presentation. There is one lake where I live that contains religious bass. Sometimes they will fast for days. :

I'm with the Mudster. Where are you, Hawgin?
  5. I have been working too much. I guess I'm missing most of the brouhahas. I have seen some senior members mix it up but I didn't think it was any more than I've seen in the past. I've disagreed with Glenn LBH, RW, Muddy, and who knows who else and I don't think any of us have walked away from it with a chip on our shoulder. If I want to express disagreement, I always remember one rule: No matter how sure one is that he/she is right, always consider there is the possibility that one's OPINION is wrong. There is always that possibility so there is no reason for disrespect. I try to see the other person's point of view, as if I were a third, impartial party listening to the disagreement. Sometimes, I learn something and change my mind. I think fourbizzle and Papa Rock had some good points about disagreements. It seems the members disagreed in the past without going beyond the "line." Now, it seems, there is an expectation that disagreements will turn into disrespectful, heated discussions and for some reason, I guess some of them do.
  6. I've avoided this conversation because I didn't want to get in a debate about who has, or what is the best unit. :
  7. Please tell me you are not serious? Not serious about which? I have a man made pond (and 3 others near it) in my backyard that is visable in mapquest/google map if you wish to see it. Nature WILL take its course. Bass were introduced in these ponds years ago simply by ducks flying in with eggs on there feathers. There is now Bluegills, Sunfish, Perch, LMBass, and Pike in this pond. No one has stocked it except for me last year. Im no biologist but I did learn quite a bit because of this. I know nothing about bream though. Bass are very adaptable fish and can live in some of the most unbelieveable ways. Gameover, the good thing about your ponds is they have predatory fish such as Pike that will eat smaller bass. In a body of water where the bass face no predation they can overpopulate.
  8. Seriously, why do people choose to hate Jeff Gordon, or any other driver for that matter? I can understand disliking the hotheads on the track. (Though it does seem a lot of people like Stewart who can be one of the angriest of the bunch at times when things don't go his way.) Just curious.
  9. Glenn, your point is well-taken. You and the moderators see every thread that hits the boards so you would know better than any of us. I get really busy at times so I don't see all of these threads that evolve into arguments. It is unfortunate that some of us can't disagree respectfully. Then rules such as these would not be needed.
  10. I'm very hard on trolling motors. I constantly fish timbered waters with stickups just below the surface that are often not visible. Also, my bass boat is only 15' 6" so my trolling motor control box sticks out over the edge of the boat when I have it stowed. All it takes is to bump it against a pier a couple of times to crack the control box. Still, other than the normal replacements of direction indicators, shear pins, and the top half of my control box, the parts that really matter stand up well on my Minn Kota AT.

You have entered the realm of posting excellence with that comment, LBH. ;D
  12. While Unabasser's post may have been harsh, I think it's a good idea to sift the wheat from the chaff. George Welcome's point is legitimate. I agree with keeping the peace, but then, looking at worse case scenarios, dictators the world over have kept the peace by permanently silencing those who "whine" or disagree. Newbies are here looking for a forum to talk to knowledgeable anglers and learn. It is not just possible, but very likely, that they will miss the Senko FAQ at the top of the page because they don't expect it to be there and they are looking to ask a question. This is not an argument or a whining session. It is logical discussion. And as always, Glenn, you have the final say. It is disingenuous to accuse someone of being a whiner, a complainer, or an argumentative SOB just because they question a policy of this website. Now and then, we all question our government, our management at work, and our leaders in any field of endeavor. This is how improvements are discovered. It is also how a good policy is proven. If Glenn's policy is a good one, it will be proven by debate and usage, not by silencing those who disagree.
  13. I haven't managed a pond, so forgive me if I'm asking a silly question. You state that he might want to harvest 5-10 bass in the 3 to 4 pound range. This would be 18 - 20 inch fish where I live. I think he should be harvesting fish that are smaller . . . . say up to 15 inches at most. Aren't these 3 - 4 lb'ers the source of his future 7 and 8 lb'ers?
  14. his hand IS inside its mouth in the second picture, LOL. Are you being facetious or are you serious? I thought that at first but I believe he has his thumb inside the mouth and his hand is behind the head in the second picture.
  15. Welcome to the forums. One thing you will need to learn is how to locate bass. Learning how to use lures is important but knowing where to fish is going to put more fish in your boat. In-fisherman's book, Largemouth Bass, has some excellent chapters that discuss bodies of water, their characteristics, and where the bass will be in those bodies of water. If you are fishing a large reservoir, I would almost bet your biggest issue is fishing locations that contain few or no bass.
  16. SEINFELD Great sitcoms have always lost their luster with age. Two of my favorites in the 70s, MASH and All In the Family, became preachy dramas by the end of their reign. Seinfeld never did this. It broke new ground and was pure comedy genius until the end. If you're trying to make people laugh, why push a moral agenda? Once in awhile this is OK, but when it happens on every show, it becomes much less funny. To me, no other sitcom touches it. BTW, see the line under my avatar. Remember the Serenity Now! episode.
  17. I've read this and believe it as well. The loops create more possibilities for the line to cut into itself.
  18. If the Cubbies could win it all, I guess I could live with that. They definitely are due. I'm a Cardinals fan so the Cubs are a nemesis to me most of the season, but sometimes you just have to root for a team who has missed the Series for so long. The Rockies are my first choice, though.
  19. That's funny. I'll have to try that on all my rods.
  20. And here's another. http://mdc.mo.gov/documents/fish/aquaguides/turnover.pdf
  21. NO. But you are confusing tournament bass fishing with sport bass fishing. The minute you enter a tournament you are gambling. You ante up your entry fee and expenses and bet that you will BEAT others for the payout. This is not sport fishing. This is business. To many it is very serious business. It would be nice to say that these guys are just "hazing" newbies, but that is not the case. They are trying to intimidate and deflate their competitors so they can gain an advantage, while pumping themselves up for the big event. It's a comptetition, not a sport (look it up) Ignoring semantics for a moment, there was a time when sportsmanship was practiced by the vast majority who participated in competitive sports. There was a lot less money on the line at that time. The love of money does corrupt the morals of many people, unfortunately.
  22. The Rockies have been under the radar all season but lurking in the shadows. I'm rooting for a Rockies - Indians series. It would be good to see some different teams playing for all the marbles.
  23. My favorite past time is removing air conditioners from the roofs of businesses in the middle of the night, and then selling the copper for a big profit. Seriously, I love playing guitar and listening to music as much or more than fishing. Obviously, time with family and friends has to be placed above fishing as well.
  24. I agree with Matt Fly. Which one you like best among these rigs should be dictated by what kind of cover and structure you regularly fish. Fishing in the middle of thick coontail, milfoil, etc. pretty much requires the texas rig which is what I fish most and I have the most success with it. However, I do use all of these occasionally under the right conditions.
  25. The Revos are sweet from what I've seen, but I have to say I have no problems getting 80 to 90 feet, and more, when casting with a Citica. All of my Citicas are the 200 size so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but all of mine cast great.
