  1. Yes, a welcome to green_eyes . . . . and what a story. I worry when I see men who act like the one in this escapade. His behavior is indicative of one who abuses his wife. I know we don't know for sure about the abuse, but it sounds like he has a lack of understanding, a really short fuse, and is unable to control his anger which isn't a good mix.
  2. Both types of reels have their place and I use both.
  3. My most humiliating experience (or maybe I should say terrifying) doesn't top justfishin's story or many of the others for that matter. I guess my experience isn't so humiliating because there was no one there to watch, but for a moment I was worried that someone might be around. Here it is from a posting last summer. I received permission to fish a large farm pond and tried it out yesteday. What a day! I had to fish in a small aluminum boat so I only brought two rods: A baitcaster rigged with a t-rig and my spinning rod rigged with a shad rap. Within 30 minutes I had 3 bass, all around the 3 lb mark, and all on a brush hog. And then it happened. I felt something on my foot (wearing sandals) and I looked down and saw the biggest spider I've ever seen crawling over my foot. It's body (without the legs) was about an inch wide. I jumped and kicked my foot and that was my big mistake. The boat tipped to the side and water rushed in filling it half full. I thought I could paddle to shore but it started to sink. I jumped out and, fortunately, felt the bottom with my feet. The water was chest deep. I pulled the boat through the cat tails lining the bank forging a new path. At the same time i was trying to keep my reels out of the water as much as possible. I got the boat to the bank but it was so steep I could barely pull the boat a foot or two with all the water in it. And that d@#$* spider was still floating on top of the water. I was able to tip it up and get the water out and the spider too. So I cleaned up as well as I could, pushed the boat back into the pond, and continued fishing. I caught 15 bass and 3 bluegill. The bass were almost all in the 3 - 5 lbs range. All but three were caught on a shad rap. My baitcaster wanted to do nothing but backlash after getting the reel wet so I was unable to use it anymore. I had my cellphone with me to take pictures but after soaking it in the water it was ruined also. To top it off, I caught two bass on one cast. One was hooked on the front and one was hooked on the back treble of my shad rap. Both fish were about 18 inches. Weird combination of good and bad luck, as well as a little stupidiy.

    ;D ;D ;D
  5. After that story, I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those shirts. I'm glad I didn't purchase one. My luck is bad enough as it is. ;D
  6. Remember Muhammad ali People HATED him. If you were around at the time, you recall, this man was despised my the mainstream american public. but they paid and they paid, and muhammad ali is now a wealthy legendary icon. it don't matter why they make you rich. So long as they do. The #'s are clear. Barry is bringing huge sums into the business of baseball. Maybe not yours. but the volume is mind boggling. I do see that this applies to Ali. Everyone that disliked him watched the fights because they wanted to see him get clubbed. Now, if they would allow every pitcher that faces Bonds to try to bean him a couple of times a game, I think that would bring in the crowds. :
  7. In most cases, you would be correct, Avid, but I don't think this necessarily applies in Bonds' case. He is jeered at every ballpark except for Pac Bell, his home park. Many people don't want Bonds to break the record and many just don't want to watch him because they know it is a foregone conclusion the record will be broken, and they hate that fact. Right now, I think he is hurting business as much as he is helping it. Reporters and people who want to say they were there when the record was broken are flocking to the ballpark. The rest of us are disappointed in the travesty that Barry Bonds has become.

Happy birthday, Russ. Welcome to the 40 and over club! If you take care of yourself, as it appears you do, everything should still work the same. As Cart7 stated, if you've damaged any joints in the past that's one of the few things that's going to start bothering you, if not already. Otherwise, you're still 20!
  9. I'm noticing the same thing. I was looking to see when the last time Hawgin was online. His last post in past posts is from April, but on his profile it shows he posted on July 30th.
  10. I haven't seen Hawgin' on the boards in awhile. His profile shows his last post was back in April.

Avid, nice-looking family. Nice-looking daughter. I assume she got her looks from her Mother?
  12. I guess this means my favorite Ukrainian lake won't be considered then???
  13. Per RW's criterion stated in his earlier post, we have now surpassed the limit of restating the same thing six times, though it has only taken five pages, not eight. I hereby ask that this thread be locked by the moderators. Hey, you guys are really getting under my skin. : Just kiddin', guys.
  14. I know. I do too. But I am looking for the answers that best describe what you do most of the time. Thanks for your answers What I do most of the time is fish the high percentage areas and keep moving . . . . and sit in one place for quite awhile. It would probably be close to 50/50. I also rely on my electronics. As many have said, though, I do just about everything in the list at one time or another.
  15. Though I'm not a moderator and have no say, IMO, I see far more threads that are not debates which repeat the same thing over and over. I think some debates are cut off too soon. I mean this as no disrespect to Glenn or the moderators and I'm sure they know that I accept their decisions. If you agree with your friends on everything, either you, or your friends, are being disingenuous. Am I starting a debate? : Well, I certainly see your point and it's difficult to say "when" is enough. The "general rule" is that when debates become "arguments" the "discussion" is ended. I know it's very subjective, but arguments are not allowed on this Forum. (I don't need any examples of this policy NOT being enforced, it's a gray area.) So, as you can see, there is no easy answer, but we don't take sides and we try to be fair. RW, your response is a perfect example of calm, cool debate. Unfortunately, many debates often mutate into something worse, as you stated, and that is why I understand the reasons for the rules being what they are. We can disagree, but I'm not going to Tennessee to burn your house down, though I might take a few G.Loomis rods off of your hands. Am I starting a fight?
  16. Remember what?

  18. Senile1 has been gone for awhile. I "made him disappear," and took over his identity, his money, his wife, his kids, and his fishing gear. What a loser, guys! Don't believe all that crap he dished out about Powell rods. All I can find here are Ugly Sticks and Johnson spincast reels!
  19. There is a difference between fighting and intelligent debate. I agree with Daniel that it makes the forum interesting when people debate differing viewpoints in a respectful manner. You notice the heat and something is definitely cooking but you keep it in the pan and don't start a fire. I highly respect those with whom I can strongly disagree on a subject and, yet, still carry on a civil conversation.
  20. Nice bass! And you are correct. Small bodies of water are great learning environments.
  21. I think that there is a big jump in quality when one moves from the 80 - 100 dollar price range into the 150 - 200 dollar range. You'll also notice a difference in warranties. Once you reach the midrange prices, most rods have a limited lifetime warranty of some sort. I don't think the difference is quite as noticeable from these midrange rods to the highest priced rods. As for quality rods, I think Muddy_Man gave you a pretty good list.
  22. Yep, you will have slack with weightless baits, although I find senko type worms are heavy enough that a big bow is only a problem with a decent wind.
  23. I'm with Russ. I fish one lure per outing on my local ponds. Sometimes it's a buzzbait, then a Spook, maybe a popper, spinnerbait, shallow crank...the list gos on and on...But, I NEVER take along soft plastics unless that's what I plan to use. Otherwise that's what I would end up using because I know, FOR SURE, I'm going to catch a few bass if I do. Excellent advice from LBH and RW.
