  1. You're going to like the Powell rod. It's a very good rod at a great price. I've heard good things about the Summit as well. It is quite a bit lighter than the Shimano Citica though I really like the Citica. I think you'll have yourself a very nice combo with those choices.
  2. Glad to have you, Jenny. This forum and the articles on this site will help you to hone your bass fishing skills. Guaranteed.
  3. "The Bass Pros," sponsored by Bass Pro Shops is easily the most technique oriented show on the tube, so currently it is my favorite. Bill Dance is still good to watch and would be my second choice. I occasionally like "Angling Edge" and "In-Fisherman." I watched Roland Martin at one time but I've found that, over the past few years, I really don't learn or receive reinforcement for any technique from him.
  4. Yeah, I think FIN-S-R covered it very well. Nice read.
  5. Good job, FIN-S-R. Thanks for the write up.
  6. Th-th-there is n-n-n-no prob-prob . . . .lem with fish . . . inngggggggggggggg in lightning. I i I i I huv . . . er, have been struck uck uck 4 times and bluddle-de-bump, have experienced, shazaam, no ill effects.
  7. Welcome!
  8. I think what Cajun stated is the key. If one's experience with a lure initially started with no success, from that point on, that lure has probably been used less than others which met with initial success. I had a period many years ago where I "thought" I couldn't catch fish on spinnerbaits. When I finally gave them a real chance under the right conditions, they became one of my favorite baits. How's that for a turnaround in thinking? I've always found that the lures and techniques that are unsuccessful for me are the ones that I don't use enough and I really haven't given them a chance to be successful.
  9. On Saturday, my dog got into my trash and, while trying to eat some rib bones, swallowed some fishing line. She is OK now, as she eventually expelled the line by vomiting, but while searching online for antidotes, this website was displayed in one of my searches: http://www.pisces.demon.co.uk/ I have to say this is as bad as any anti-angling site I've found. Maybe you all are already aware of this group but, if not, I thought you should be. This is in the United Kingdom so I don't know what kind of world wide influence this group has. Is anyone familiar with these people? ****************** After posting the above I found this on their website: Membership Information We rely on our supporters to make Pisces a strong campaigning group. Members receive four free issues of our magazine per year which will keep you updated with what's happening, while helping the only group world-wide solely campaigning against angling. Besides focusing on the UK angling community, we actively help groups in other countries set up their anti-angling activities.
  10. You guys must have better eyes than me. The lighting is so different in the picture of the state record fish that I can't see all the markings to make a fair comparison to FC's fish.
  11. You guys are well on your way to video glory. : Is this how LBH started out?
  12. Oh yeah, I didn't see your post count. Welcome to the forums.
  13. I think it is big of you to tell everyone about your skunks because we've all seen the amazing pictures of your hawgs, and they are truly hawgs in every sense of the word. Maybe this will help a newer angler to deal with his or her frustration when they don't get a bite.
  14. I was also wondering if you are using mono. I'd use copolymer, fluorocarbon, or braid with a fluoro leader to see if there are any improvements. On a very long cast with plastics, the stretch of monofilament could cause you to miss some hook sets.
  15. If you fish a Senko in muddy water the worm has to fall on top of their face for them to find it. You received some good suggestions in the other posts. Try those baits instead.
  16. Many of us in our 40s and later probably didn't use sunscreen back in the day, and the sunscreens that existed at the time didn't block UVA wavelengths. I am diligent in applying sunscreen now and the sunscreen I use blocks both types of wavelengths. To determine if your sunscreen blocks both UVA and UVB check for the following ingredients: avobenzone, titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide. Also, insect repellents reduce the sunscreen's SPF so you should use a higher SPF and apply it more often when using these.
  17. I like to hit the water when the sky is lightening up a bit in the East but the sun still hasn't risen. Right now, that puts me on the water around 5:00 to 5:15 AM. I'm noticing the bite starting to diminish drastically as the sun gets up above the trees so it may be time for some night fishing. As Valascus stated, I get on the water when I can. If this means I have to hit the water at Noon, so be it.
  18. Good guides - Invaluable on large impoundments where you don't know the water. Bad guides - Not worth the money. As RW stated, if you can get personal references for a guide, you'll be much more likely to have a great experience with them.
  19. Welcome to the BassResource.com corner of the world. Seventeen feet and 90 HP are plenty. Get back out there and tight lines, brother.
  20. Number 24 faired pretty well against Dale Earnhardt, Sr. It's one of the main reasons why there are a legion of NASCAR fans who dislike him. Three of his four championships came before #3's untimely death. It's unfortunate and unfair for him, because he doesn't generally lose his temper and exhibit bad sportsmanship like some drivers. He just goes out and does his thing.
  21. I remember this article also, but for the life of me, I can't remember their recommendation and the logic behind it. When I get home today, I'll look through my old magazines and see if I can find it.
  22. Guilty as charged. I have been remiss in using the banners as well. My apologies to Glenn, BassResource.com, and all members. My next lure order will be through the sponsor banners.
  23. Funny. ;D That fishing reel looks like a tin can with a handle and a button on the end.
  24. I've debated this subject with myself a few times as well. I see where you are coming from, but you also have to consider that if the sun is at your back, and your shadow is long, it will fall towards the fish. This could be a problem when fishing for shallow bass, such as during the spawn.
