  1. What little bit of real estate that I have between my ears is too important to waste on remembering the most I've ever spent on fishing equipment.
  2. 80 percent alone. 20 percent with someone. 1987 15' 6" Starcraft Magnum 150 with 70 hp Johnson. I can squeeze this boat into places where larger rigs can't go and I can still take it out to Truman Lake (55,000 acres). Top speed is almost 40 mph but I have to be careful in the wind and in big waves (like Lake of the Ozarks main lake on a weekend) with my 73 inch beam.
  3. This discussion is beginning to get interesting Vorlin, correct me if I'm wrong. Frequency alone (nanometers) does not determine light penetration, because it varies according to the medium involved. For instance, it's my understanding that ultraviolet light is essentially blocked by glass (silicone), yet glass is easily penetrated by white light (visible spectrum). On the other hand, ultraviolet light penetrates water very well. Okay, my question is this, are you saying that "blue" is the first color to disappear underwater, and that "red" is the last color to be scattered underwater? Roger My understanding of the colors that bass, and other fishies, are able to see is similar to Roger's. I've attached a link that explains the filtering of colors underwater. It would seem that, when underwater, red disappears first, according to this. http://www.deep-six.com/page77.htm
  4. I have to second this opinion. Fish Chris is The Dude.
  5. Yeah, you've really got to watch your moon phases as well as if Venus is showing up as the morning or evening star. Venus has ruined my fishing excursions more than a few times. :
  6. In most parts of the country, two people who catch fish around 9 lbs both have the right to brag no matter what they're caught on. Some of us have the idea that catching fish with live bait is easier, but there are different opinions on this. Just ask Fish Chris. I'm usually competing against myself anyway. If I catch an 8 lb 8 oz fish and my buddy catches an 8 lb 6 oz fish on whatever, it's really not in my nature to brag about beating my friend. A little friendly joke between us is all that might possibly occur. Heck, they're both good fish.
  7. Excellent, in-depth article, Craig. This is good for newbies and oldies alike.
  8. Congratulations, Mr. Hookers! I look forward to seeing your segment.
  9. Every few weeks I'm making a list of what lures and terminal tackle I need to buy based on items I've lost and need to replace, plastics that have been used up, or just lures that I want to add to my arsenal. So my list changes from month to month. I would recommend you look at your current arsenal and fill the gaps.

Hank, welcome to the forum. Are you talking about catching a Brown Trout?
  11. I find I have burned out on a number of thread subjects that we have. However, like LBH says, we have so many new members that these subjects aren't old to them. I find myself not wanting to post on these worn out subjects, but if all of the people who have been here for awhile stopped posting the informative nature of the forum would suffer.
  12. Thanks for the info, coacht.
  13. I use a Gammy 4/0 EWG offset for Fat Ikas. You might want to analyze your hookset. When I first started using this lure I missed a fish here and there. I found that a harder snap of the wrists and forearms on the hookset helped me immensely.
  14. For every situation, there are always a few lures that can be used to match the conditions. I think it boils down to what you are confident with and what the fish want on your particular body of water. Some days a weighted t-rigged worm sinks too fast for them to bite, so you use a weightless senko or fat ika. Other days you need a heavy weight to get down through thick vegetation and a worm may slip down through the brush better that a bulky plastic bait. If your lake has a lot of crawfish, then maybe a tube or plastic craw is a good idea to match the hatch. Some lures just work at particular lakes. Truman lake, southeast of Kansas City, is known for giving up bass to t-rigged and c-rigged lizards. There are no hard and fast rules.
  15. Welcome to BassResource.com.
  16. Here's an interesting summary of how fish take in oxygen. http://www.geocities.com/aquarium_fish/how_fish_breathe.htm This is a quote from the above article about how fish suffocate.
  17. You guys have too much time on your hands. You should be out fishing.
  18. I was considering some used boats, the Stratos, and the smaller Nitros earlier this year, but I decided (with a little help from my wife ) to replace the siding on my house and wait until next year to replace my current boat. The Stratos has a decent footprint on the water but the storage space lists as only 6' 7" for the rod locker in the middle of the boat. Some of you are saying you are able to store 7 foot rods in there. Please elaborate, if you could. It also comes with just a 12V Minn Kota and the depth finder leaves something to be desired. I'd want at least a 65 lb thrust 24V trolling motor and quality depth finders at the console and at the bow. If I were to purchase this boat, I'd want at least 70 horses on the back as well. Once you start adding it all up it gets a lot harder to choose.
  19. I believe in bag limits and following the laws. I also believe in catch & release but selective harvest is necessary at times. So out of respect for your quarry when selective harvest is practiced for the good of a game population, you should eat what you kill and not waste it. These conservation ethics have existed for some time. My reason for playing the devil's advocate on an earlier post is because none of us know the full story here. These guys may be eating nearly everyone of these fish. Appearances can sometimes be deceiving. I have a hard time with 16 people killing 1400 carp though. They averaged 87 dead fish per person. I don't know if there is a good explanation for that. Maybe they're going to freeze them and send them to starving children in Darfur. : If something like that were the case, I would applaud them.
  20. Well, it looks like a lot of fish, but there are recipes posted and this posting is at the bottom of the page. ***PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE*** Please remember! You owe it to yourself and the fish you hunt to use only the most appropriate equipment for the game you are hunting. You should make constant adjustments to maximize your success and minimize lost and mutilated fish. You must be responsible to make sure that the fewest fish possible die in vain. Carp populations can get pretty thick so if you're going to have a big fish fry maybe killing this many is warranted. With the proper recipe, and when cooked properly, I have read that carp can be rather tasty. I'm playing the devil's advocate here. Without more information I don't feel comfortable judging the ethics of what is being done here.
  21. Thanks for the PM, Muddy.
  22. Bassn Blvd, I'm sorry I didn't really answer your question. Instead, I tried to be funny. Follow LBH's info and relax those eyes.
  23. Without electronics you are forced to use a map to narrow down areas to fish, and then you use lures and carolina rigs to feel out the bottom and see what is there. This is a time-consuming process on a huge lake and is not efficient but if it is all you have that's what you'll have to do. You can't beat good electronics for finding fish on deep structure in large lakes.
  24. Good one, Muddy.
  25. I guess I'm late on this one but there is one more thing. Don't be afraid to fail. If a girl indicates she isn't interested don't let it get you down. As Avid stated, getting out and going for it is key. As long as you go for it you will find someone who is interested in you. It's like fishing. You gotta' believe you're going to make the catch and eventually you will.
