I saw Mr. Dance using this lure on his show but I don't know anyone who has tried it. However, it is made by YUM, a reputable company. I think I'll wait for more information before I decide this is a gimmick lure.
  2. I would agree regarding the reputations of smallmouth as opposed to a Florida strain largemouth, but I was thinking in terms of comparing northern to southern smallmouths, and comparing northern to southern largemouths. As you stated though, it's nearly an impossibility to control for all factors so that you can test just one. Maybe they should choose a random sampling of bass in the north and south and do a focus group.
  3. Northern bass are much easier to catch because their "feeding season" is so short and they are VERY aggressive. Is this something documented? Theoretically, it makes sense but I've never heard that the further north you go, the more aggressive and "easier" the bass are to catch. Assuming this would apply to LM also. RW stated: I have another question to add to those posted by LBH. While the above, logically, makes sense, did the study (or studies) clarify if they also considered the age of the fish. I would also assume, logically, that a northern bass of 10 years age, while possibly as small or smaller than a southern fish half its age, would be much "smarter" than the 5 year old southern fish which would maybe balance out the aggressive tendencies due to the short growing season. A 5 - 7 lb'er way up north is an old-timer and would probably tend to have far more experience with seeing various lures than a southern fish. And now let me contradict this with some more circular logic. Due to the warmer weather in the south, southern fish may see more lures all year round, while northern fish don't see too many in the Winter months, so maybe a northern bass must be older to have the experience with lures that a southern bass has. I just wonder if they account for all factors when they do these studies.
  4. Man....you really need to relax. You got up in arms about a Kentucky comment, now you cant take a CLEARLY DEFINED JOKE. Deep breaths sir, deep breaths..... If your comment was made in a more light-hearted way, I apologize and encourage the use of ;D or some other variation that lets people know your intentions. Thanks for the reminder, Speedbead. I make a lot of quick posts when working and often I forget to place the little smileys on them, and I'm sure I've offended a few people. I apologize to anyone that I have offended due to my failure to communicate properly. (No apologies to those I've offended on purpose. )
  5. I haven't read the statistics lately but for the better part of two decades into the 90s, most accidents between a car and a motorcycle were caused by the driver of the car. Many of these were left turns in front of oncoming motorcycles, just like yours, RottmanK9. I'm glad you're OK.
  6. I like the black shad and watermelon green gold in that order.
  7. My Father-in-law follows Nascar religiously. Every time we visit on a weekend he is watching it. I've seen enough to know that Jeff Gordon is a class act most of the time. As kwchannell89 asked, why does so many people dislike Gordon, to the point of performing a violent act? Yes, I think throwing full beer cans is a violent act. If one of these projectiles hit someone in the head, it could seriouly injure or even kill them. Earnhardt was a great racer. Gordon is obviously a great racer. Respect is due to both of them for their accomplishments.
  8. Agree and I would add the avid for one step up. I like my Avid, but for the same price you can buy a Powell rod that is much lighter, more sensitive, and just as strong to boot. http://www.powellco.com/
  9. I like the Powell rods too. I think more people ought to check 'em out. As for the beer-throwers, they're giving Nascar fans a bad name. If a race lasted only 10 laps I might be more interested, but I just can't see watching 200 - 250 laps of the same thing over and over for a few hours. 4bizz, you're right about the stereotypes on these things. Hunting is right there with them as well.
  10. I haven't used it. It might be a good idea but I agree with your concern about the lower arm interfering with hooksets.
  11. 4bizz is alright by me. Anyone who likes Powell rods can't be all bad.
  12. Fourbizzle, you're funny, but let's not stereotype, my friend. I don't follow Nascar that closely myself but I thought this was a good topic for discussion.
  13. So what's up with the throwing of full beer cans at Jeff Gordon? I know this isn't the first time. It is a childish act and someone could get injured, not to mention the damage it can inflict if it hits a car. According to Nascar.com, a few, very passionate Earnhardt fans are the culprits. I'm all for passionate fans but this borders on ludicrous.
  14. I agree with Catt's choice but Rolo has prompted me to want to revisit the Symetre.
  15. Shimano Citica at just under $120.
  16. How about Ish Monroe in 4th place? I'd like to see him maintain his high level in the AOY standings.
  17. Yes, indeed. Very timely.
  18. I was wondering about him, also. So we didn't pay the bill?
  19. I use mono or braid. The importance of waiting until you feel the fish on topwater baits is even more important when using braid, since there is no stretch. If you don't wait until you feel them you'll jerk it away from them every time. With mono on long casts, you're going to experience a lot of stretch, so you'll need to adjust your hookset on these longer casts to make up for the line stretch. I've found that I need to set the hook relatively hard when the lure is far away.
  20. Good to have you back, Papa!
  21. . . . . and look what happened to Fredo . . . .
  22. I kind of thought it might not be true, but I would have laughed at it if it had been about my own race or any group of people. It's just a funny story. You don't have to be prejudiced against the Japanese to find it funny. I know in this day and age off color jokes like this are taboo, unless you're Carlos Mencia, Chris Rock, or some other comedian.
  23. I laughed so hard I cried when I read this. ;D
  24. Chief's fan here. I wouldn't mind having a football thread. The chief's front office realizes it's time to rebuild. Our vaunted offensive line is falling apart due to retirements. Bad draft choices over the past few years have left us with needs at defensive tackle, wide receiver, and a number of offensive line positions. These are some of the reasons they are shopping Larry Johnson around in addition to the money they'll have to pay him for a new contract.
