  1. I run 8 lb fluorocarbon line on one of my reels for deep cranking. The thinner line allows the crankbait to go deeper. This is a common application and I don't know of anyone doing this who has an issue. You should be fine using this line. Just make sure you use it for the right application. You don't want to be flipping brush with it for example.
  2. The KVD 1.5 and 2.5 have a huge wobble while the flat-sided Rapala's have a tighter wobble. You may have heard a general rule of thumb is to use a tighter wobble in cooler water and a larger wobble in warmer water. Whatever the case, at this time and place the fish you and your buddy were catching appeared to prefer the tighter wobble. At some other time, they may hit the 1.5 and 2.5 and ignore the flat-sided crank. You have two different tools for different circumstances.
  3. I've found that if I wait long enough someone will speak my mind for me.
  4. During the hottest summer days a very shallow pond with no feeder creek can become devoid of oxygen and fish kills can occur. During the coldest days of winter a pond must be deep enough to not freeze all the way to the bottom. So adequate depth is important. If there is food and acceptable levels of oxygen a bass can probably live there as long as the PH of the water is in the proper range. Otherwise, size doesn't matter.
  5. Ironic, yes, but true just the same. If you didn't know me it would be a rare occasion when you could tell I was an angler by my clothing or anything else. Of course, when I'm pulling my boat or I have a jon boat hanging out the back of my truck it is obvious but that's not showing off. That's a necessity to go fishing.
  6. I haven't fished the rig yet, but I've read quite a few fishing reports, especially from the Winter months. All winter at Norfork Lake, Table Rock, Bull Shoals, etc I have seen good fishing reports and the alabama rig was mentioned in every single one. Just from my reading it would appear that the best circumstances for using the rig are when the bass are grouped up, schooling, or suspended and feeding on shad. That would explain its success this past winter and also points to other times of the year when it could be very useful. There would obviously be circumstances and times when it isn't the best tool to use and you would probably have a difficult time catching bass with it. I've seen too many good reports about it to call it a failure, but again, this is only secondhand information.
  7. That's 67.86 percent and isn't too shabby. In fact, in years past that may have been high enough to win though FishinDaddy will know for sure. I would post a 68 percent. You can always post a larger fish and upgrade later if you catch one.
  8. Stop changing your name, Brian! I'm losing track of who you are.
  9. People are different. Some don't display a great deal of excitement because it is not in their personality to do so. There is nothing wrong with them being themselves. I remember a story I read as a kid about Hall of Fame Safety, Larry Wilson, who played for the, then, St Louis Cardinals. A teammate was asked about how quiet Larry was and if that detracted from his leadership ability. The teammate stated, "Larry is not a holler guy. He is a do guy." Also, keep in mind that during a sports game the display of excitement by the fans disrupts the other team's communication and is helpful to their team. This has become part of football. At the weigh-in, the competition is already completed. Yelling isn't going to make anyone's bag any bigger than it already is.
  10. This was a very good idea for a thread, Gary. I've wondered about this topic as well and I believe you are onto something here. I know there are some rods that have more sensitivity than others but there are a lot of things that go into that and ergonomics could well be a major factor. However, to me, I think the differences in sensitivity are greatly exaggerated in many cases. One rod may be slightly more sensitive than another to me, but to someone else that difference is reported as a huge one. It could be that some just have an intense sense of touch and notice these things more than the rest of us. Or maybe, some are just drinking the proverbial kool-aid provided by the marketing departments.
  11. That does sound like a good price. I have a bass boat but I am in the market for something I can hopefully carry in my pickup for smaller waters. I will need a bed extender for most boats that I am looking at but I may be able to get by without one with this solo boat.
  12. Keep watching it and I expect it will even out. KVD probably does more of the 5 minute segments, but at least in past seasons everything has been spread around pretty good, especially the in-depth segment. I didn't know much about Stacy King until watching this show, but the past couple of years he has made a believer out of me with some real hawgs in his in-depth pieces. Evers and Horton have provided some great segments as well.
  13. I don't see a retail price on the web site. Did they provide a price at the show?
  14. I wondered when this would occur. How would you feel if a fishing show promoted an islamic, buddhist, agnostic, or atheistic point of view? If you are ok with the promotion of christianity you should be ok with the freedom to promote other creeds as well. I think those who run the show have a right to believe what they want and promote it but, as SirSnookalot stated, the network has a right to limit that promotion if they think it can hurt the network in any way.
  15. Actually, Kyle Williams muffed two punts, one that glanced off his knee and led to a Giants touchdown, and the fumble in overtime that led to the Giants winning field goal. This guy has to be bummed out.
  16. That's more like two or three bags.
  17. Another notch in your belt. Nice one.
  18. I really love music but nature and fishing usually rule out music for me when on the water. I don't want any other sounds other than the sounds of nature in most fishing situations, though highly pressured lakes can be pretty busy and loud but that is something I can't control. My favorite music requires intense listening anyway and would interfere with my concentration, as it is not based on simple hooks and melodies like most mainstream music. There is music I like that makes for good background listening which would probably work for me when fishing, because it doesn't require the mind to be involved. However, most of the time I prefer to keep my music and fishing separate so that each receives the full attention needed.
  19. For those who are unfamiliar with Powell rods, there are a number of people on this forum who use Powell Max and Powell Endurance rods. I have five Powells and they compare favorably to St Croix Avid rods, in my opinion. The few minor complaints about Powell rods involve a tip-heavy feeling with the Powell rods that are longer than 7 feet, though many people do not notice or mind this. Also, the Powell Max series was designed by Gary Dobyns before he left to start Dobyns rods. I dare say that Powell makes a quality rod. As J Francho stated, the question is what quality level do I get for 70 dollars? If the quality is the equivalent of a Powell Max, or only slightly less, I think this would be a great deal. And like ghoti, Kmac, and some others have stated, I am not one to abuse a warranty. I have yet to use the warranties on my St Croix, G.Loomis, Dobyns, or Powell rods. I have broken the tip on one of them which was my fault. So I could go for this as long as the quality of the rod is acceptable to me.
  20. I make note of what I have depleted every winter and then I do a full restock. During the spring, summer, and fall seasons I will replenish anything that I run out of that is necessary. It is a pretty basic process.
  21. This is a good idea for a thread. I saw this previously but I forgot about it. This is another member of the future generation of female anglers - my Granddaughter.
  22. B.A.S.S analyzed this and decided it was best for their organization's Elite tournaments to eliminate the use of multiple lure rigs. You may disagree but it's their decision. I kind of lean toward not using the Alabama rig in tournaments but it really doesn't matter much to me either way. They run the organization and they have the right to do what they think is best for it, whether I agree or not. I don't think this decision is going to hurt the organization or bass anglers so it is a moot point for me. I also noticed in paragraph four of the article that the rules committee is comprised of anglers who have qualified for the 2012 Elite Series so it is a subset of the Elite anglers themselves, who is choosing to do this.
  23. Evernote is pretty sweet file sharing app. I use it on my PCs and my Samsung Galaxy S II. I also used it on my Evo. It's like iCloud for Android phones.
