Lens Color For Low Light Conditions
Some in this thread have suggested the use of copper and amber for low light conditions. I think that maybe we aren't rating the lenses using the same tests. I can see fine with amber lenses in low light until I need to be able to see down into the water. They don't work so well for me when there are shadows on the water. I have used amber lenses for the last few years, and at dusk, I cannot see down into the water very well. The difference between daytime and dusk is striking. I do know that yellow lenses, as suggested, brighten things up a bit and the new High Transmission lenses are designed specifically for this purpose. I have read that the best colors for low-light are yellow, orange, clear, and rose. I am using rose now, and while they appear to work better than amber to see down into the water in low light, I still want something better. I have also read that polarization doesn't eliminate glare as well when the sun is low on the horizon so maybe poorer vision into the water is a natural characteristic of polarization when the suns rays are horizontal.

Lens Color For Low Light Conditions
I use Maui Jim prescription lenses on my sunglasses. I love amber for daylight but it doesn't work work well under dusk or dawn light conditions. I recently switched to rose-colored which is similar in daylight but somewhat better under low light; however, I am still not satisfied. Maui Jim makes HT lenses (High Transmission) for low light conditions. I don't think there is one color that will work well for all light situations, so I am probably looking at eventually using two pairs. I have an old pair that I could get new lenses for. In the meantime, I'll probably be taking my glasses off when there is very little light.

Tony La Russa Retires
I just read about this too. I guess it is a perfect note to leave on after winning the World Series. I hate to see him go. He is one of the great managers and will be in the Hall of Fame. I haven't always agreed with him and his methods but he has proven that they work. I kind of hope he changes his mind.

Does Braid Make Me A Lazy/sloppy Fisherman?
Thanks for the laugh. Fluorocarbon and braid both have their place. You have to decide for you where that place is. Most of my lakes have heavy timber and brush so I tend to use straight braid or braid with a fluoro leader most of the time. Due to the density of fluorocarbon it does transmit vibrations rather well and I use fluorocarbon in situations where I am not worried about getting the fish out quickly. However, at times I am just plain lazy and will fish the braid in those situations too if the lure I want to use is tied on. Funny, but there are times when I thought I was feeling them better with fluoro and other times I thought I felt them better with braid but that's probably due to my advanced senility. As to the OPs original statement, I don't think any line is enough of an advantage to warrant not using it. The fish will still win at times.

Big "o"
Wow! The two in the first picture are just awesome. As others have stated, the one in your right hand has amazing color very similar to a spotted bass.

Something I Did Not Know
I have always tried to keep my plastics out of the waterways, though sometimes you will lose them through hang-ups, etc. I didn't realize they swelled to such large proportions though, but it makes sense now that I think about it.
-
Would You Or Wouldn't You?
I would have to walk in those shoes to really know if I would make that decision as I have mixed feelings about it. Without family, responsibility, or debt as the OP stated, the fishing part would be a no-brainer. I would absolutely want to give it a shot. Where I would have an issue is the salesmanship piece. These guys have to be able to give a sales pitch for every lure or piece of equipment they use or try for their sponsor. If I didn't believe a lure or piece of equipment was all that, I couldn't, in good conscience, pitch that product. I know a lot of guys say they only accept a sponsor they believe in but when you reach this level, you're on the hook for your sponsors even when they blow it. I'm sure some will disagree but In my opinion, objectivity suffers when a person has to really push to sell a product.

Cardinals And Rangers In World Series
I grew up in Southeast Missouri which is Cardinal country. I've been a Cardinal fan since my previous life. I started rooting for the Royals as my second favorite team in the late 70's. When the Royals and Cardinals play I am always for the Cardinals. I didn't move to Kansas City until I was 29 years old. This is no reflection on your question as you asked in a respectful manner, but I get a lot of flack from some Royals fans which I don't understand considering that I root for the Royals, go to Royals games, and I treat other Royal's fans with respect.. The attacks can be rather rude at times and they generally tell me that Cardinals fans are jerks. I then ask them why they are attacking me since I never say anything bad about the Royals. In return they always back-pedal and say something to the effect that I am the exception. I tell them that the Cardinal's fans I know are very sportsmanlike and that there are bad apples in every group. I have had a few tell me that this is incorrect and that all Cardinals fans are jerks. I just don't understand that kind of biased hatred based on living vicariously through a sports team. I am sure there are fans like this for every team including the Cardinals. I find it very immature and unsportsmanlike.

Cardinals And Rangers In World Series
That's a pretty strong statement, John, for two teams that won 96 games (Rangers) and 90 games (Cardinals). Only one team won over 100 games (Phillies). I would say the statistics and wins for both teams are evidence that they were far from mediocre, at least for this season. If you are talking about their abilities compared to every great team in the history of baseball, maybe. But sometimes, in professional sports, the line between good and bad can be a thin line. So its over and the Cardinals are the champs. It was almost like it was written in the stars after game 6. My hat is off to Ron Washington, Nolan Ryan, and the Rangers for playing a tough series and for their sportsmanship. If they had been playing any other team I probably would have rooted for them because of their loss last year. This has to be tough to be that close and then to lose it again. I hope they make it back and get theirs.

Nanofil- What's The Skinny?
I read a little blurb about it in Missouri Game and Fish magazine and the author stated that he could cast noticeably further with the thinner line. He said it actually took some getting used to because he was over-shooting his targets. However, I haven't tried it so I can't say anything with any degree of certainty. Other than that, the link below is another thread ongoing about Nanofil and its visibility underwater.

Cardinals And Rangers In World Series
It was very sloppy early on. There were 3 errors on the Cardinals and 2 errors on the Rangers. The Cardinals errors were truly epic with two routine pop flies dropped. I was sure my team was finished after Freese dropped the popout at third base, but as they say, it isn't over until its over. Unpredictability makes for an exciting series.

If You Had 1 Lure This Fall What Would It Be? Choose 1 (Poll)
I was surprised too, but then, ironically I picked the jig. If I only fished lakes where the main forage is always shad I probably would have chosen a horizontal bait but 75 percent of the time I am fishing smaller lakes where small sunfish and craws are the meal of choice. Considering all of these lakes, lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are hot in early fall for me and the jig works too. From mid to late Fall in my area, the crankbait and spinnerbait bite has really slowed while the jig continues to plug along. For example I took a half day off on Tuesday afternoon to catch a good warm day before a cold front dropped temperatures 30 degrees. I caught 5 crankbait fish, 1 spinnerbait fish, 1 grub fish, and 22 jig and craw fish. I started out with the spinnerbait and the crankbait but switched over to the jig. The grub fish was just a follow-up cast to a crankbait fish I lost. More often than not from mid-October to the beginning of Winter, it is typical that I catch at least as many if not more fish on the jig than I do on the horizontal baits. At least that is how it has been the last three or four years.

That was a wild game and it will be one that is remembered. Here's to two great, but blemished teams, making this a World Series to remember.

Nothing beats a jig and trailer for me. I use a GMAN jig with a Rage Tail Craw.

Tip-Heaviness Of Rods
The lure weight is an interesting thought and maybe is a more complex interaction. We want to feel the lure so that we can notice any change in its movement as an indicator of brush, cover on the bottom, or a swipe at it. We have to feel some weight from the lure, no matter how minute, to know what is going on with it. Plus, you have the pull of the water on the bait as it moves through it. While an interesting topic, I think it just goes to show as DVT states below, that there are too many variables to consider and it is a matter of personal preference. Very well put, DVT.

A Pair Of Reviews
Thanks, Hooligan, for the excellent information. I was looking for a review from an experienced angler with no dog in the hunt regarding the Curado G.
