    Welcome.
  2. It sounds like the water was warmed up enough for the bass to move up and become active. In that case, he was fishing a common pattern - wind blowing food into a point and the baitfish follow. The blades and body of the spinnerbait, spinner, buzzbait or whatever he was using probably simulated the baitfish and in the wind-disturbed water they can't get a real good look at it so they nail it when it comes by.

  4. I'm not familiar with that model but I used to own a 1987 Starcraft Magnum 150 with a 70 horse Johnson up until the end of 2007. It was a cool little boat. At 15'6" in length I could maneuver it into the thickest trees. It also ran well and didn't cause a lot of problems. When buying a boat that old there are a number of things to check to make sure you aren't purchasing a headache. Spend the $150 - 200 bucks to get the motor, lower end, and compression checked by a mechanic. Check the deck and floor for soft spots which indicate wood rot and make sure the transom is sturdy and doesn't flex. Take the boat for a test ride and make sure the steering isn't stiff and make sure there isn't too much free play. Make sure all bilge and livewell pumps function. Below is a link to a used boat checklist I found online. http://reviews.ebay.com/Used-Boat-Buying-Checklist_W0QQugidZ10000000001400910

  17. 1) Where are the fish likely to be found at this time of year? Deep, shallow, middle? What is the water temperature there? Since you are in PA I'll assume water temperatures are still in the 40s. I would expect the fish to still be deeper while on occasion some may move up shallow. You may not be able to reach deep water from the bank except for the dam area. If water temperatures are in the 50s the fish should be starting to move toward spawning areas so they would probably follow any channels, ditches, etc. to these areas. If you can reach these types of areas from the bank that is where you would need to fish. You should be able to locate these by looking at the banks and extending what you see on the bank into the water. 2) What are some good basic go-to lures and plastics? Jig and craws, jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, finesse worms, senko type worms, plastic grubs, deep-diving crankbaits, slow-rolled spinnerbaits. 3) What size and colors? Normal size but when the bite is tough try smaller lures as well. Dark or loud colors for murky water though you may catch fish with natural colors. Color isn't your biggest concern. If visibility is really poor use rattles, big bulky baits, bladed baits, and other noise makers. 4) Retreive speed or techniques? Try everything, but start slow if the water is cold. Cold, muddy water can be very tough to fish.

I might have missed it but I didn't see anyone mention the LC Pointer 100 DD. It is the deep diving series jerkbait and gets down to 6 or 7 feet. This has become one of my favorite jerkbaits. I also like Rapala Xraps and Husky Jerks. We used to take the Rapala Original Floater and add suspendots to it. When it was done correctly, that bait had the original balsa floater action combined with suspending behavior. I sometimes think I haven't found a bait that beats the action of that setup.
  19. Ok. The "U" is missing from the word forum in my title. Is there a way to go back and edit the title?
  20. I've been looking around and everything looks sweet, Glenn! Great job on the forums! I know change can take some getting used to for some, but I think after the initial surprise at the new look everyone is going to love this format.
  21. I think length of daylight, temperature, and instinct all play a part. If we knew exactly what prompts bass to go on the beds and make other movements it would remove all the challenge from finding them. For now we have to live with the behavioral generalities as we know them.
  22. Congratulations guys! Long Mike, I'm especially happy for you. It couldn't have happened to a crustier, meaner, old cuss than you.
