Wheel Bearing Maintenance
Did you buy the boat and trailer used? If so, I would tear it apart and manually pack the bearings now. Going forward, even with bearing buddies I manually pack my bearings once every year or two depending on how many times the trailer is in the water. The bearing buddies are a way to keep most of the water out but injecting grease through the zerk fitting on them is not as good as a thorough packing. Use the zerk fittings throughout the year but pack the bearings manually at least once every year or two.

an interesting few days.
That's a great fish, Paul! Where's that wind you're talking about? Was the picture taken in a protected cove?

Decent trip today :-)
Nice one, Chris. Nice picture as well. I don't think you can take a bad picture. I love how the details stand out on that fish.

Fluoro Leader
My leader is normally the approximate length of the rod. I fish lakes with quite a bit of brush on the bottoms and the leader makes it so much easier when I hang up and need to break off. I use 15 lb test fluoro with braid of any test from 30 - 50 lbs.

Quantum sucks!!! Wait does it? KVD uses their stuff
I've been a Daiwa and Shimano user all my life. Currently, I have nothing but Shimanos, however, I do not consider myself a part of any posse. I have never understood the bashing of Quantum equipment or, for that matter, any manufacturer that has obviously built a solid business with an extensive clientele. Quantum has been successful because they have a large clientele that likes their products. An assumption that their products are junk, in light of the evidence, doesn't appear to be a fair conclusion.

Who Pushes You To Be Better?
I'm always trying to learn more and become a better fisherman so I guess I would say myself. It doesn't create pressure or stress for myself. It's my hobby. Trying to become better at a hobby is enjoyable.

How Shallow is Too Shallow?
Nothing is too shallow and nothing is too deep except when a thermocline has formed.

Left and right handedness
You used a left handed bat? Sounds like me with my left handed metric crescent wrench! ;D That's not to mention the disgusting problems caused by left-handed toilet paper.

Left and right handedness
LOL I was always right-handed. In third grade I broke my right arm and I was a rough and tumble kid so I kept breaking the cast and it took over three months for it to heal. During that time I learned to write left-handed. After some practice, my writing was no different with my left hand than my right. After the arm healed I switched back to writing with my right hand.

Do you switch hands when you cast a baitcaster?
I used a two-hand cast as well. However, for pitching and flipping I'm holding the rod in my right hand and then switching so I can reel with the right as well. I plan to purchase a left hand reel to try out these techniques without the switch.

New rod Advice...Powell Max, Abu garcia verdict +veritas, Dobyns Savy
The OP stated: The best one that meets this criteria is the Powell 683C at $139.99, though the Dobyns Savvy SS693 is a comparable rod and is only ten dollars more. If you go with Powell and Dobyns rods of 7 feet or longer this will put you at $169 and up and they would no longer meet your requirements.
