  1. I'm from PA, and I haven't ever had an issue with having my big motor on. I usually take the gas tank out, but no one has ever checked it. I fish on some electric motor only tournys, and there are bass boats that mount a TM on the back. There is on small bass boat that doesn't have a big motor, just a TM in the back! Jim
  2. HI guys, Went out Saturday morning To Raystown lake. Had a pretty good trip. Couldn't get em to bite up shallow, Except one decent bass on a skinny dipper. (17in 2-2.5). Any way, I was trying a dropshot around bridge pillars and started to catch some nice fish. I landed three, all about 16-18 inches. Broke two off and lost three more during the fight, all in about an hour! It was rocking pretty good considering the last few trips have been kinda slow! I had pitch in close to the pillar, and the fish would hit on on the 8 -10 count. I caught one fish dropping it all the way down (21 count). After a while I was just stopping it @9 mississippi and shaking it and getting bit. This leads to my question. Like a dunce, I forgot my depth finder! I was wondering how deep would a 3/8oz dropshot get in 8 seconds? I was using a bass assassin fluke type lure, 3in long, and a 3/8 bell sinker on 8lb mono. I am thinking it was like 10- 12 feet, but not real sure. Thanks guys! Jim
  3. Yeah, bullet shaped split shot is the way to go around sparse weeds. I like 1/8 oz. down to teeny tiny. (BB, I think is the size.) I like SS rigs on spinning gear, 8 or 6 pound test. 4in worms, baby brush hogs, and small crayfish type baits. I love SS rigs! I think it's just like a micro Carolina rig! I do fish it slower than a a c-rig though! Tight lines- Jim
  4. I'm a Barney, so I'm staying quiet! I just got to say this is the best thread I have seen on here in years! JIm
  5. I Like to burn lipless baits for schooling fish. Just crank it as fast as you can. I don't think you can out crank a bass! Two weeks ago I ran into a situation like this. Came as close as I have ever come to having a rod ripped out of my hand!!! Tight lines.. Jim
  6. We used to catfish at night beside the shy beaver launch @ Raystown. Had a group of 5 guys, all just drunk as skunks, launch a ski type boat load their two coolers of beer and take off. Fairly normal, except the left their dog on shore! He hung out with us while we fished! Next thing you know, here comes a boat blowing threw the no wake right at the ramp. About 50 feet out they cut the engine and drive it right up the ramp!!!! Ends up the drunk guys forgot to put the plug in! The boat was like 3/4 of the way up on shore and it took all seven of us tp push it back into the lake (after they put the plug in)!! They did take the dog the second time!!!! Takes all kinds, Jim
  7. I hate snakes..... Nice little fishing hole though! Jim
  8. this may sound dumb, but did you retrace your path? if it fell off, I would darn sure try to find it. Not being preachy, but doing things half @$$ makes you look like a whole @$$. Keep your head up. Jim
  9. Beautiful spot and fish! Fish looks long and skinny, if it was filled out I bet it would have went six easy! Jim
  10. senko for me too. Caught some fish on them, but not many.
  11. Nice looking fish! There really is nothing better than catching bass you have to work to get to! Seems like they pull harder! Nice outing, I love the second pic in particular! Jim
  12. Like Raul said, your not going to skyrocket that bait. That big metal lip catches a lot of air! Try varying the amount of line between your top eye and the bait before you cast. There is usually a "sweet" spot that is the right length to really load the rod when you cast. Remember, the rod should throw the bait, not your arm. When you find the right length of line, you'll be able to feel it when you cast. Maybe try a sidearm cast too. Some times keeping a bait like that down out of the wind will help too. Classic bait that still catches fish. Good luck! Jim
  13. Just two weeks ago I forgot all my tackle... Had to use what I had rigged pre-trip, and my dad's stuff! Felt like I was 12 again! Now, hunting.... I have forgot my bow once. Forgot ammo once too. I had six shotgun shells, and ended up with four rabbits! Here in Pa, our limit is six. That was actually the best day I had bunny hunting that year! Glad to hear I am not the only one! Jim
  14. "You caught an 18 pounder?" "yes" "Any witnesses?" "no" "got a picture?" "no" "Sounds legit to me! Here's your record!" no matter what the story, a record needs documentation. Jim
  15. Nice striper! What does a "big one" run in your neck of the woods? The PFBC stocks them in Raystown here in PA. Used to see some 30's and 40's. Now a 30 is pretty rare, but it does happen. A 20 lber is a big one now! Sounds like a great trip! Jim
  16. cool trick! Don't let the "just buy it crowd" bring you down! There is nothing like catching fish on something you made yourself! Jim
  17. I would tend to think most pros grew up using cable steer. Might not mean much, but if cable is what you know.... I own a cable steer. (MK edge) I have a friend with a terrova, and it is sweet. The GPS stuff is amazing, and it makes "drifting" flats for perch almost unfair. My only complaint is the noise. I just cringe every time it turns. For how and where I fish the cable is great. Plus I know how to fix it on the water. A trolling motor is just a tool. Just pick the right tool for what YOU need/want! Jim
  18. Nice stuff!!!! I bet you could take most of them out and catch fish on them too! My FIL caught two bass on a red and orange flatfish like you have there just this past weekend! Nice collection! Jim
  19. the only way to beat him: Take up Golf I do look at some stuff and think, it's amazing the things I would rather have than money. Jim
  20. I too, am a big boy, and I think that saves a lot of drama! Respect is the bottom line. If I am in the boat I go around, try to stay outside of casting range. I have had people "sneak up" on me though, and I adjust accordingly. Jim
  21. I think it's stuffed... It looks bigger around then long! Wish we grew em like that up here! Jim
  22. I agree Raystown in Pa. You have to fish it during the week. If I go on the weekend it's till 10:00am max. In 2004 I think, we were fishing when a skier went down about 50 yards ahead of us. we fished up to and past this guy. The boat just keeps going around the bend and out of sight. He told us they were all drunk, but they'd be back eventually! They did come back about 15 minutes later. Gotta love it. Jim
  23. First trip with my boat I launched it without keeping it hooked to the trailer. Of course it started to float away! Lucky for me I had enough rope in my jeep to lasso the trolling motor and pull it in. Thank God no one was around to see it, I felt like the south end of a north bound horse. Jim
  24. My rule of thumb is this: silver blades for bright days, gold blades for dark days. I like the plain blades, but will use hammered blades too. I have never found much difference really. Good luck, Jim
