  1. A smokin shad fluke, boncing it around the rocks.
  2. I read that you are supposed to set the brake to where if you twitch the rod tip the lure should fall 10". I usually go a little tighter than that when starting off on a new reel. I like to throw hard two handed casts. so I dial all mine in as if i were going to throw like that. It never hurts to start off too tight and loosen as needed. you will cast a little more to get it tuned up, but you won't get backlashes.
  3. If you want nightcrawlers, I just found a way to get a lot of them. I was cleaning out an ice chest and put some bleach and dish soap in it . after I let it soak , i pulled the little plug on the side and let the soapy bleach water run into the grass. Within 1 minute max, about 10 big a** worms came up from the ground. I was amazed. If you need shad just get a castnet.
  4. Friendswood Tx? If so there should be a ton of places to get a replica made. from Kemah to Katy there is bound to be at least 1.
  5. The ONLY time I throw a "seasonal" bait. ( I don't like that term) From Dec-June I will throw a red rat l trap or Xcalibur in Rayburn Red color. The bass here are keying in on crawfish that time of year and that seems to be a magic color. But most of the time I choose color by water clarity and cloud cover.
  6. Frogs and buzzbaits.
  7. I personally do not do it any longer. My little girl uses my UL when i take her fishing. But I will tell you UL fishing is one of the most fun things you will ever do. When I was younger we had a camp at Toledo Bend and when we were not in the boat, I was on the bank with a UL throwing a frog bodied beetlespin on 4lb line. wooohooo!!!! As a matter of fact for a long time, I had one of my PB on that rig. 6lb on 4lb line. That was just flat out fun.
  8. I love my job. I had some free time and nobody else is out here. So i went to my truck and grabbed my R&R and went down to our waterway where we unload ships and in about 20 mins I caught 3 redfish and 1 flounder. Once again I love my job. ;D
  9. It is very simple to skip craws and tubes under docks with a baitcaster if you practice. drop shot with them too. watch the Jackall Cover Craw demo on youtube and you will see some great baitcaster skipping
  10. I ask the same question. I see absolutley no reason to use one. When i was young I used one for ultralight. But other than that I can't see a reason to have one. what can it do that you can't do with a baitcaster and 10lb line?
  11. I don't really understand why you would do this. Just to try it? It really will not make you catch any more fish. Is it for looks?
  12. I use Wiley x with smoke lens($126) and Flying Fisherman Amber lens($30)
  13. It's not the best bait EVER but it is a bad mutha f*****. I always end up with one my line somehow. they are a steady producer.
  14. I was throwing watermelon/ red flukes and my buddy was throwing watermelon/orange flukes and flat out killed me on the fish because of flake color.
  15. In the winter and at night I throw colorado blade spinnerbaits slow.
  16. I've done it where it pays off big time (x rap) then I've done it when it did not work at all (huddleston 6" swimbait) but, that's part of it.
  17. Well, I hate to say it , but I was not very pleased with my last outing to one of my favorite lakes. Big Sam Rayburn Resvr. The day started off perfect. the water was calm not a lot of people on the water. We started fising at the boat launch. I expected to catch at least 1 of the past weekends tourney released fish. Nope not even a roll at my Pop R. We shot straight across the lake to Farmers cove and threw topwaters for a very short time. Surprisingly the water was already 86 degrees. It was 7am. so we found a spot in the cove that was basically about 13'. Fish were there, but didnt want ANYTHING we threw at them, from tx rig,c rigs, cranks, senkos, nothing. We zero'd in farmers. So we move to buck bay, by this time we have a lot of wind and it is not easy to fish in buck bay with this type of wind, that didnt last long. So we tried to run to five fingers but with the 3 ft waves and strong steady wind, it just wasnt worth the headache to run that direction. We head back to twin dykes and fish around there. There are some floating boat docks but they did'nt produce. All I caught all day was 2 tiny little dinks on a booyah double colorado blade spinnerbait. That is what always gets me at that lake. THE WIND. It seems like no matter where i go on that lake the wind always gets me. It is a lake that i love but hate.
  18. get a square billed crank
  19. I'm not sure of all of his sponsors but I've seen Zoom brush hogs and Yum money minnows on his lines. I don't think strike king can tell him he can only throw strike king cranks. They want him to win no matter what. The more people that see him on the winners platform on espn with strike king on his jersey the better, they don't care what he used to get there.
  20. Everytime I get a new reel or respool I use Blakemores reel magic. IMO it really does give a little distance and nearly eliminates line memory. I am a firm believer in this product.
  21. That honestly is a good price. I don't know about the rod, but I have a silver max and it is actually a good cheap reel.
  22. Go with a Stanley Wedge or Icon, Even the minnowhead and vibrashafts are good.
  23. I don't know about obsolete, but that looks like a cool worm that I would throw in a second.
  24. I have handled, but never fished one. They feel great and are balanced well. I have a buddy who fishes Airrus and he uses them almost exclusivley. I have my eye on the copperhead. Airrus makes a good rod IMO.
