my mistake- here it is:
I don't know if you know, but the state just below good ole' Virginia has sick college basketball programs. UNC, Duke, and now with Wake Forest emerging among the elite, they are by far the most dominating state. Tonight, two of the top 10 ranked teams collide in a sure to be an epic battle. That's right folks, UNC and Duke will battle it out at 7 pm on ESPN. I figured I will give my two cents on the top rivalries in all of sports, in all the land. Okay, maybe just the 4 major sports. Who knows, maybe a tennis rivalry will make it, at this point I know as much about this blog as our president knows about the future of our economy not much. So here it is,
10.) Andy Roddick v. Novak Djokovic (tennis)- Hey, tennis made the list. This started when Roddick went public about Novak's injuries; he made a comment mocking him. Saying that, "He's either quick to call a trainer or he's the most courageous guy of all time." That was in last year's U.S Open. Novak won the match, and when on saying in the post-match interview, How are those injuries now? Not too much of a rivalry, we'll see where it goes from here.
9.) UCONN Lady Huskies v. Tennessee Lady Vols (womens college basketball)- These team have been battling for years on who is the greatest college women's team of all. Sorry, UCONN, I have to give it to Pat Summit and the Lady Vols.
8.) Jack Nicklaus v. Arnold Palmer (golf)- This is probably the greatest golf rivalry of all time. I had to have a golf one in here, and I thought long and hard which one it should be. The other option was John Daly v. his shirt. I didn't want to put a picture of his fat *** on here though.
7.) Muhammad Ali v. Joe Frazier (boxing)- Back when boxing had fans, and heavy weight bouts where something special and you could gather the entire family around to watch two brutes fight til near death, there was this rivalry. The only rivalry on this list where death threats were made and an escort was required to walk around with Frazier. In this trilogy of fights Frazier delivered Mr. Cassius Clay his first loss. Not to mention it sold out Madison Square Garden a month out from the fight, with no ticket master, a purse to the winner of $2.5 million, and 300 million viewers worldwide. These numbers a larger enough to give even Don King a hard on.
6.) O.j Simpson v. The Law (football/culture)- He may have escaped the long arms of the law in L.A., but failed to do so against Vegas. Long live LVPD!
5.) Boston Redsox v. New York Yankees (baseball)- Not much to be said here, the rivalry started back when George Babe Ruth was traded and the curse of Boston was created. How's it looking now, Yankees? It seems to be the bigger rivalry laying behind all of this is Sen. George Mitchell vs. the Yankee superstars. Good luck, Mr. Mitchell, they're all cheaters.
4.) The Ohio State University v. University of Michigan (college football)- Started in 1897, the rivalry is just as big as it was back then. Of course, with the down fall of the football program at Michigan, the rivalry used to be much better. Way to go, Rich Rod! I actually had an opportunity to make it up to one of these games, I should have gone, I would have a lot more to talk about.
3.) Los Angeles Lakers v. Boston Celtics (pro basketball)- I don't know what era is better, Magic I can live through anything Johnson vs. Larry I shoot the ball like an amateur Bird of the 80s or today's version; Kobe vs. The Basketeers (Garnett, Peirce, Allen). They were in the finals last year, I hope it reaches the ultimate peak a couple more times by the time these players retire.
2.) University of North Carolina Chapel Hill v. Duke University (college basketball, mens)- Two of the most dominating college sports teams of all time are only separate by 20 high way miles. The classic rivalry started early years in the 1950s with the birth of the ACC. Holy ****, the game is on tonight, and I still have no idea who I want to win. Holy ****, THE biggest regular college basketball game is on tonight! I need to say no more about this game/ rivalry. North Carolina leads the on-going record 128-97. Wow.
Here it is, the moment you've been waiting for, the biggest rivalry in sports, in my unbiased (ha, yea right) opinion.
1.) Washington Redskins v. Dallas Cowbitches (pro football)- I don't think I need to explain this one. And I don't want to gather **** from any Cowboys fans. I genuinely feel this is the biggest rivalry in all of sports. It probably does have something to do with me being a HUGE fan of the Skins, and probably a lot more to do with that I LOATHE the Cowboys. Hail! I am sad to say it but the Girls are winning this fight with 57 wins. Skins have 37. Two ties have happened. We'll get back, keep Tony Romo, and Trouble Owens. Hail!
