winter time fishing
try lipless crankbaits like a ratl trap or something slow down and size down you can try a shakey head with a 4 inch finesse worm. a spinnerbait should work fine as well. you will just have to see what the fish are biting. ive had some luck on a jig down on some of the alabama lakes. a jerk bait might be pretty good to i caught a lot of fish on a jerkbait on logan mart back in late november.

Joined FLW as Collegiate Competitor
the level of competition is pretty much even which makes it fun. i used my senior year of high school to fish a little trail on my local lake and i used these tournaments to perfect my fishing skills of course i am still a long way from perfection it has helped me in the collegiate tournaments i have fished so far. just practice and get ready for close tournaments and a lot of fun

Any collegiate Bassfisherman in here?
see my school (tennessee tech) is claiming they are going to reimburse us but they are only going to give us like 1200 a semester which is a good start its just our second year, but when you have to have fuel for 6 boats 6 trucks and a hotel room it starts to add up. ive had more fun my freshman year of college fishin than i have in a long time. this college bass fishin is a dream come true for me

Structure Tips
i recently fished a tournament on tims ford in tennessee and i had most of my luck on banks with transitions going from rip rap type rock to big boulders like bluff type rocks. i always key in on any kind of transition because 9 times out of ten there will be a fish on that structure the key is getting them to bite

Need help with largemouth
scale your baits down and slow down a suspending jerkbait is always good and work it slow. ive had luck on 1/4 finesse jigs and half ounce football heads. if the water is stained try a black and blue jig or something like that. dark colors show up better in stained water. try a ratl trap too something with a tight wobble.

what's with the sexy shad dilemma?
The first collegiate tournament i fished in i won it throwing a sexy shad strike king suspending jerk bait. i think it is a great looking color but maybe a little over marketed. every bait company has their own rendition of this color scheme. Ill be honest i have a lot of cranks and traps in this color :

Any collegiate Bassfisherman in here?
all of the sponsors for our team either give us a discount or send us free baits. they dont really pay for gas or anything like that they just give us money basically for a spot on our jersey its a good setup but you have to sell yourself to the sponsors. the flw tournaments they have a pro drive you around in their boat they dont want you driving yourself for some reason.

I'm an idiot sometimes
one day i took my buddy out on the lake and we had a good day of fishing. well when i went to load the boat i had the trailer too far in the water so i hooked the winch strap (which is messed up) to the front of the boat and told my buddy to watch the boat as i pulled up a bit. of course he didnt pay attention he was too busy texting and the next thing i know my boat is floating in the middle of the creek channel. i made my buddy jump in and go get my boat and i stayed dry ;D

skeet reese rod?
I havent used one before but I have been looking at them online. I can get a pretty decent discount from *** because they sponsor my college fishing team but I was wondering if they were worth the money. Has anybody fished with one? If so what did you think?

Guntersville help!
I personally like the mid lake area(north sauty creek) and south. Grass flats with the ditches and breaks in them are where the big fish will be taken. Thing is that you will be able to catch keeper bass everywhere.....you will have to find the bigger schools of fish. I like the XR50, XR75 in rayburn red with the 1-knocker rattle and a lucky craft pointer 100 jerkbait. Water temps should be in the mid to high 40's which is just about perfect. I would be glad to show you around the lake when you come down Cliff thanks!!I might just take you up on that offer I've never fished the lake before but I have heard stories from friends about how great the fishing can be.

Old Hickory Lake smallmouth??
ive fished old hickory all my life and have only caught one smallmouth. i caught it on a crankbait during the summer time in the back of a creek it was 17 inches. not many smallmouth are caught in the lake itself but below the dam is good. Mike Iaconelli did an episode on his show city limits fishing and he fished the river and caught some really good smallmouth in the 5 pound range on a shakey head and a jig.

I am on Tennessee Tech University's fishing team and we have an upcoming tournament on December 12th on Tims Ford.
