  1. When I'm fishing out of my 14' jon, I just expect my fishing partner keep the aft of the boat uncluttered. I even built a rod rack/holder for the non-boater. If I constantly have to walk around his gear or move his rods to get to my rods, then I'll mention something to him. Main thing is bring what you're actually going to fish, and be neat.
  2. I have had my fair share of inexpensive depthfinders like Eagle Fishmark 320 & 480, Cuda 300, and Lowrance x125. I currently have an Eagle Fishmark 320 and Lowrance Elite 5x on my jon, and I'm quite happy with them. If you just need structure and depth, an Eagle Fishmark 320/480 or Mark 5x would work. Cuda 300 would work too, but screen is smaller and has less pixels. My local Cabela's had 3-4 new Fishmark 320 units for ~$80 in the Bargain Cave.
  3. I felt somewhat irritated a couple trips ago. Seem like folks had a taste for some prop. I also thought to myself that it could be the mirror angles that makes the following vehicle seem closer. I don't get worked up about. I pay more attention to the road and traffic up ahead. I think people are just envious of my custom jonboat and freshly painted Rude 25hp tiller, and just want to take a closer look...*sarcasm*.
  4. You could try standing on the bench tops and walk around. It'll give you somewhat of an idea how tippy the boat is. But the boat will be more tippy once you deck it due to it being top heavy. Decking a jon can be quite expensive, so you definitely do not want to spend money on an inadequate sized vessel. Bottom width is the key to your answer.
  5. Everyone's got a lil' gangsta in them.
  6. Good looking vessel! Great way to get off the banks.
  7. Used the HB Smartcast FF, and I agree with MattinOK about the low quality image. Plus, it's another rod/reel combo that you have to lug around, which is not practical for run-n-gun bassing. More of a gimmick if you ask me.
  8. My tackle purchasing habits has evolved since losing my job and taking another job with 30% less pay. I still purchase tackle, but not so much out of compulse and not so much like they're going out of style (except for discontinued items ). As for rods/reels, I buy used either from here or other forums. And then sell my gear to feed the addiction. Fishing has taken a toll, but that's because I have a 2yr old and a 3mo baby.
  9. Another vote for spot removers in 1/8, 3/16 oz. I favor the spring coil over the barb, but will start using super glue for the many barbed spot removers I have sitting my the box...thanks for the tip Rhino.
  10. Can't help you much, but can point you to tinboats forum. A used 30lb foot controlled TM off craigslist will be sufficient for your vessel. Good luck.
  11. I had a 1000 series for about two weeks. Mines had a hitch during retrieval whenever I was working a crappie bait slowly. Hard to explain but the hitch was a particular spot in the retrieving motion where there was more resistance requiring more reeling force. Moderate to fast retrieval speeds yielded no hitch. Thought I had a bad egg, and went to exchange for another one, and it too had the same issue. Cabela's recommended me to use it for a while longer and maybe that'll work out the kink. But I decided to get the Stradic 1000FI instead. Found one locally for the same price as the Saros and Cabelas matched the price. There are a few others that liked the Saros so maybe they can chime in.
  12. It is 7'11" at the wheels. Thanks for the info. I re-measured my garage and unfortunately it's roughly only 93" wide. Enough of my rainy day. Enjoy that Skeeter!
  13. Sold off all my Quantums (Tour 1171, Energy 761, Accurist 501) and Pfleugers (Trion, Pres). All were very good reels, just a bit on the bulky and heavy side. Switched to Abu, Shimano, and Daiwa for a different spice.
  14. Stuck a 3hp Gamefisher ob on a 10' Pelican. Still slow...but beats paddling or TM.
  15. Congrats on the boat! I want to upgrade from my tinboat to a smaller glass boat that would fit in my 8ft wide garage doorway. Was looking hard at the SS 140. How wide is the trailer? I personally like the DC.
  16. I'd choose the 100b. Smaller profile reel. Line capacity of the 100b would ideal since you'll be using the rod more for accurate casts vs. long distance casts. Used equipment is fine as long as the seller did not abuse/neglect the gear. Most of my rods and reels were bought used. All were and still in very good condition.
  17. Chael fought his best fight. Used his strengths to dominate Anderson. And in Chael Sonnen fashion, got caught in a submission. He lost to Anderson on Anderson's worst day; how would he fair on Anderson's decent day? Chael is funny...awarded himself with a silver medal. Boy must have gotten hit harder than I thought.
  18. If he indeed screwed you, karma will catch up to him.
  19. If Chael would have danced/pranced around in the 5th, maybe the outcome would have been different.....nah, maybe not. Dominated from the top for 4+ rds, and still managed a busted face.
  20. Cause the Elite guys do it and it looks cool. Any fish more than 2lbs gets gripped by the lip.
  21. Everyone on this board is a bassin' freak. That's all it matters to me.
  22. GGGG-Unit! Just kidding; no catch phrase when I stick one.
