  1. Jigging a spoon can be really productive. But when you do this, use a flat spoon, not one of the concave ones. Toss it out and let it settle to the bottom, or where you think fish are suspended. Since it's action is on the fall, you want to hop it off the bottom high enough to make it flutter back down.
  2. I was seriously contemplating on buying this rod. What do you guys have to say about it? http://www.kistlerrods.com/p/KR/c-h2-worm-fishing-jig-rods/He2MHC70.html
  3. I tried a new guy this time. I was a little worried at first. He had a few walleyes on the wall with stripes and some looked a little awkward in position. He said those were ones that he caught and practiced on. They were his first walleyes that he ever mounted. I was pleased with the outcome of mine. He got the paint job 100% spot on, and he added the grass on the left side, and the minnow at the fish's mouth for free. He thought it would look good, so he put it in. He was right!
  4. Here is the 10lb walleye that i caught last year. It was in the freezer for almost a year, but my parents said that they would pay to get it mounted for a christmas present. I'd say the guy did an awesome job
  5. the ice isnt safe here yet. it was for a day or so, but then heavy snow made ice iffy, and it was really cold for a week, it might have been safe for another day, but now it is about 40 degrees, and everything is melting. Im never going to get to go ice fishing...
  6. my general preferences.... cranks- 20lb braid, or lighter. jerk baits- 6-10lb flouro/mono jigs-20+lb braid, or heavier (when flipping) texas rigs-same as jigs when flipping, 10lb mono for finnesse shakey heads- 10-20lb braid spinnerbaits- 12-15lb flouro, mono, or braid if really weedy topwaters- 10lb mono droppshotting- 6-8lb flouro or mono carolina- your preferred line with an 8-10lb flouro or mono leader For further references, it would be a good idea to include hybrid or co-polymer lines wherever flouro or mono is mentioned. These are all the heaviest weight i would go, they are pretty standard for casting gear, some techniques would be better suited with spinning gear, and generally lighter line.
  7. I just spooled up with 8lb test. Its seems great so far, but its a little stiff. Thats probably because i havent fished with it, or maybe it has something to do with the 20 degree weather.
  8. comments, pros, cons, any remarks? I'd like to hear what all you experts think of this stuff
  9. Actually, i was a little dissapointed with my 5k times. I have been the fastest in our conference for 3 years, and i took 3rd at regionals this year. I am also a runner with asthma, and it came to bother me during state. I ran a 16:56 and got around 70th place. My junior year i ran a 16:35 at state and got 40th. I was less than 10 seconds from all-state. Im looking to get all state in both of my events in track.
  10. Im telling this to everybody. Today in gym class I dunked a volleyball on a full size 10' rim. Now heres the cool part. Im stand at 5'6" tall. Starting today, i am on a mission to increase my vertical jump, and eventually get up to a full size men's basketball. Being a distance runner, most people find it odd that i have the fast twitch muscles to manage a 32 inch vertical jump. That is usually asociated with sprinters. However, im not a bad all around runner. I can run a 5k in 16:29, and a 100m dash in 11.3. Ive never trained for sprinting events or for jumping. Does anybody have a good program that will increase my vertical, so i can dunk a real ball sometime this year?
  11. I just did a 10 minute lecture on the subject of the hoax of global warming for my speech class here are a few facts to debunk it that you can try to argue -there has been a tempurature rise, actually. The most accurate satellite based thermometers have detected a .7 degree average increase in the last 100 years. Thats right 7/10ths of a degree. And that is a span of the last 100 years. People argue that the emissions of greenhouse gasses have effects on the temperature increase, but those have only been in a mass emission for about 50 years -another arguement, increases of CO2 have been taking a blame for global warming. Now greenhouse gasses do regulate temperature. That is why the chances of frost overnight are greater when the skies are clear, the temperature of the outside universe is way below zero. Greenhouse gasses help us from freezing overnight. However, CO2 plays an incredibly small part in this. There has been an increase in CO2, but it is a terribly ineffective greenhouse gas. Water vapors make up a vast majority of the greenhouse gasses, also it is hundreds of times more effective than CO2. A small change in water vapor has a much larger effect on the environment than a staggering change in CO2 levels. -the ice caps are melting. This is also true. However, some regions have ice caps that are continually growing at astonishing rates, despite a few warm seasons. How is that? The experts say that variables such as precipitation, winds, etc, have a much larger effect on the growth of the ice as opposed to temperatures. Now, if these ice caps can grow through a few slightly warmer years depending on other variables, you dont need to be a scientist to figure that they will shrink on variables besides a temperature increase. If anybody wants to argue a fact that i havent cover, id be glad to. I consider myself knowledgeble on the subject, and i actually enjoy the chance to debate peacefully.
  12. well hes not swimming at all right now, just sitting in the freezer boneless and skinless. I promised my girlfriend i'd get her a fish since she loves walleye and salmon, but have never tried wild ones before.
  13. When i caught my 10lber it just dragged up to the net. This guy pulled like a train. Crazy stuff.
  14. For shorefishing, ive come to love these bigger baits. In still, or at least calmer water, i like to use a zoom fat albert (4") or a kalins lunker grub. (5") I have actually caught a fair amount of steelhead on these too. But another thing is the rapalas. I use either size hj10, and i actually have recently caught a 7lber on a hj 14. I always use silvery colors, that has given me my 4 biggest fish. (10lb, 7lb, 6.5lb, and 6lbers)
  15. I was down at the river today with my buddy, throwing grubs and soft plastics as usuall. I was getting strikes, and losing fish. I lost 4 fish, and one felt like a giant. My buddy accidentally snagged a giant 15" shad in the side. And some guy there caught a lake trout. I have never seen anybody catch a lake trout in the river. I was about ready to pack it up and go home, but we decided to move down to the bridge before we left. Thats where i caught my last 2 big walleyes, 10 and 6lbers. My first cast with a huge 6" huskey jerk, i had a fish. It was pulling line like crazy. I called out "fish on!! Its got to be a steelhead!" It fought really hard for about a minute. I got it up to shore, and my partner yelled out "walleye!" I thought he was kidding. It HAD to be a steelhead by the way it fought. But no, it was a walleye. A 24 inch 7lb walleye. A total pig! Check it out
  16. no steelhead. They havent come out of the lake too heavily yet. I did manage a 7lb walleye today. Check it out, i just posted it
  17. just check out the pics
  18. speedpicking. This video is fairly elementary. I can do better. http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f114/rocknfish9001/?action=view&current=HPIM1850.flv
  19. well it doesnt want me to put a link in. See if this works. Hold on through 30 secs of crap to hear 20 secs of glory. http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f114/rocknfish9001/?action=view&current=HPIM1844.flv
  20. Ive got a page up with a little bit of what i do. The finger-tapping is terrible, until theres about 20 secs. left. Dont judge me on that. Ill be changing the videos quite often until i get some good recordings. The song that is up is one that i made in my spare time using audio editing programs. I got my first guitar about 3 years ago, but didnt get really serious until i got my ibanez rg last year. http://www.myspace.com/simplykyleb
  21. Well im imagining its going to be next to impossible to get it certified, seeing that i used a digital hand scale that is not certified, i do, however, still have the fish in the freezer, because i was going to get it mounted, but have not had the money to do it.
