  1. I'll probably try the Mattlures Hard bluegill and the Spro BBZ out first. 4oz is probably the heaviest I would use.
  2. The current on the river side was great, much better than I've seen in the past month or so. The water also looked like it was up a couple of feet from the last times I had gone.
  3. Just got back from Pickwick late this afternoon after fishing for 2 days. THe water temperature was 57-58 degrees. On Wednesday my buddy and I put in right past the Shell station at yellow creek. It was tough at first because you couldn't see 10ft in front of your from all the fog and I'd never fished there so I didn't know where I was going. We didn't do so well there, we fished coves and points. I boated 2 on a Pop R that went about 2lbs each. It seemed like since the water was so low that it was deep most everywhere. Around lunch we loaded up and decided to go put in on the river side. After we loaded up I noticed a bright yellow truck and trailer across the parking lot. I could tell it was someone sponsored so we drove over there to check it out and it was Boyd Duckett's truck and trailer so I guess he was out on Pickwick somewhere. This might be a common thing I don't know though, I never fish the lake side? On the river side my buddy caught 2 smallies fishing a 200 series bandit translucent red craw crankbait that went about 2 1/2 lbs. I through some miscellaneous and caught a couple small largemouth. Towards the end of the day I put another 2 lber in the boat on a Pop R. Today the top water bite on the river side was on fire till around 11 am! I think it lasted so long because of the overcast. I boated 8 or 9 with a Jackall Tennessee shad pop r. My best 5 went about 11 lbs. My buddy caught a couple more smallies on the same crankbait as well and missed a monster. One thing I thought was strange is he had a cheaper silver and blue pop r and the fish wouldn't touch it. I really didn't think the appearance of a pop r would matter that much. I though it was mainly the action that caused the strike. Below are two pics of our nicer 2 fish.
  4. Thanks I'll let you guys know how we do
  5. Were you throwing a Cavitron or a Pop R?
  6. Thanks! I'm looking at this one it's an 85mm ZPI Power Game Complete carbon handle PG-COMP. Anyone know anything about it?
  7. Thanks I'll be there Wednesday and Thursday I'll let you know how we do!
  8. I'm looking to super tune my SOL and replace the handle. The handle I've picked out comes in 85mm and 92mm. I definitely want a bigger handle but not too big. Does anyone know what the size of the stock handle is?
  9. Okay from looking at a map it looks like Yellowcreek is the mouth before you go into Tom Bigbee? If I put in in Tennessee do I need a Mississippi or Alabama license?
  10. Thanks Bonhead! I normally fish on the river side and am not to familiar with Yellowcreek. I've only been on the lake side for recreational purposes. I'm familar with Tom Bigbee, Panther creek, the waterfall, and Grand Harbor. I'm planning on putting in at the state park. Are any of these places close to yellow creek?
  11. I'm looking at getting my first swimbait rod setup and I'm looking at the Dobyns 795 and Loomis 955. I'll be throwing 1.5-4 oz baits mostly and will be paring it with a Curado 300E. I've looked at the Okuma also but kind of want a higher end rod so I was leaning away from it. Has any body used one or all of these rods that could tell me there thoughts? Also I'm open to other rod suggestions as well. Thanks
  12. Anyone have a fishing report for Pickwick?
  13. Someone posted this on another forum. Thought I'd post it here for those interested. You can get the white python for $419. American Legacy Fishing is discounting their remaining inventory of Megabass items (not including eBay auctions). This includes lures, rods -- everything. Their rods are basically what's left since the last time they had a blowout when they lost their deal to sell MB rods. Use the code MEGA40 (all caps) at checkout to get the discount. Discount expires after the 29th.
  14. Does anyone have insurance on there rods and reels? I keep telling myself I need to get it every time I buy a new one but never end up doing it. I don't know what I would do if all my gear was stolen. Are the prices reasonable? I wouldn't imagine it would be to much.
  15. ive done that a few times, its never that easy. Well I'm wanting to have the spool and everything else that is red on a CORE to be painted the same color blue as the Loomis NRX rods so I'd like it to be perfect. I would really mess it up. ha
  16. Thanks, Did he paint that white and blue daiwa you had for sale a long time ago?
  17. I'm looking into getting one of my reels painted and fixed up and was wondering where the people that always have this type of stuff for sale gets it done at?
  18. When I fished with him I believe he used the one with the fish head on it (fish head spin). I could be wrong though.
  19. On a couple of websites I found it said 22 lbs 4 oz.
  20. Yea I know what you mean but the Triton Mike Bucca Bull Shad Swimbait has been out for a while I believe and I've never heard much about it. It's similar to the high power herring but it's more expensive though. I've never used it but I'm sure it's different somehow. I'd much rather get them from Randall though to help out a BR member who's an average guy like most of us on here. Plus it's an awesome bait. I think he will be able to make his bait a pretty big hit if he has the time and wants to. Also it would be neat to see someone start off selling there bait on here and locally then one day start to see it on ever tackle website. Good luck Randall I think you'll do great if that's what you want to do!
  21. So do people go out on Varner and catch big bass all the time or does Randall just know this lake extremely well!? I've seen several pictures of nice bass on this lake from him and his clients or friends.
  22. Pointers and jackal DD squirrel
  23. Thanks for the information. I want to get a round reel one of these days but would like a pluton or calcutta. For now though it doesn't fit my budget.
