I have had good luck with Shimano Saros reels, and I have a pretty new Shimano Compre rod and I LOVE it!

I just picked up some Red Label in 8lb. So far it seems really nice, I was just wondering if you have any opinions on it.

Headed out for some Carp today on a nearby stream. First day I've seen them really actively feeding. Seems like winter may finally be over! Saw about 20 carp, many inaccessibly due to limbs and trees. Managed to hook 3, landed 2. The first hookup was gorgeous, my dream carp experience. I saw a little pod of two carp mudding, heading upstream towards me. I silently crouched down, and flipped a trout slayer about 5 feet ahead of them and let it drift down. The one saw it immediately, and without hesitation inhaled it into a gaping white mouth. Last one was a nice one! I was in a really deep pool, and could just barely see his shadow. I cast 10 feet in front of him, waiting for him to get near the fly. As he neared it, I saw him turn. I waited, and basically guessed when to set the hook, because it was too deep to see. I got really lucky and hooked him! I was using Trout Slayer, and on the last one, a fly called the "Fleeing Crayfish", with a trimmed tail. The landing job is sketchy. They were missing some lettering that should have been on the inside of the temples. What led you to believe they were knock offs?

Yes, the first pair I received were more than likely knock offs. Not sure, but I returned them just to make sure.

I would NOT buy off of eBay for Costas. I already made that mistake once. Plus, Costa won't honor the warranty. Luckily I returned them for money back, but a very scary moment when I realized they might be fake. Then I just got them factory direct and the 580 lenses are sweet!

BAD IDEA for braid. Fine for everything else. Power pro explodes when I use a lighter on it. Last few times I did it, it exploded molten Moss Green all over my hands and wrists. I had little pin-point burns for a few days. However I always use a lighter for mono/fluoro. Did it really explode?! Kaboom?

Does it cast any better though?? Even if they don't cast better they're lighter. Not that I would get one, but the weight is one of the big perks.

Isn't that kind of counterintuitive? You have line coming off in large coils, trying to squeeze through little guides.

I would rather just use a round reel. The huge lps are too large for me to palm comfortably. And if you try to hold the foregrip of the rod, the line on a low profile rubs your hand.

Well I don't have the Supreme. But sounds like a great reel. I do have the Saros and it is a great reel as well. And the Symetre is not to far off from the Saros, so its probably great too. Mabye take the rod along and try both for balance? The Supreme in a 1000 size is really light, making the rod tip heavy... but thats just me.

$80 for the whole combo?
