  1. Redfish, trout, flounder in VA and NC. Tarpon, snook, bonefish, permit when I go to FL. Crappie and perch in winter locally. Forgot sheepshead and black drum
  2. I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned, but the best sandwich place on earth is Primanti Bros in Pittsburgh. This coming from a southern boy who really hates to admit when yankees do a good job on anything (lol)
  3. Tarpon are notoriously hard to hook up...so I'd imagine hooking one on a frog, notorious for a relatively low hook up percentage, would be even more frustrating. I've only hooked 3 ever...1 on a live pigfish, the other 2 on 4" Yamamoto grub in luminous white (key west after dark but near dock lights that got the grub glowing real nice). Anyway, almost any bass or snakehead lure will work, but personally I'd use something like a grub or swimbait with exposed hook if the cover will allow it. And use stout hooks, even a small tarpon will straighten out a light wire hook quickly. And finally...bow to the king.
  4. I read an interview with Hannon where he seemed to clarify his stats. The interview was much later...late 1990s or perhaps early 2000s? Anyway, he referenced those stats again about most of Florida's double digit bass coming between 10 and 2 (according to the anecdotal comments given by the anglers applying for the trophy program). Hannon said very simply that it was because that's when most people are on the water (the early birds who were still out there, plus the late starters, the fair weather anglers, etc). In other words, that when most fish were caught because that's when most people were fishing. I can tell you for sure this is how almost any statistician (or anyone who uses statistical analysis as part of their job) would look at it, at least at first glance, before a deeper disaggregation of the data.
  5. That's the one. Thanks fellas.
  6. I have some small swimbaits, about 3.5 inches, made by Gene Larew. Seems they are discontinued, and I can't remember the name. They have an almost identical profile to a clunker city shaker swimbait, but just a tad shorter
  7. I believe black bass in Spain, and maybe Portugal, were introduced by American service members stationed there. I could be wrong, but I've heard this several times. Pike are a big deal in Scandinavia it seems. British perch fishing is something that appeals to me greatly. They get much bigger over there, but they're still pursued with light tackle.
  8. If you cut most of the back legs off a z man TRD bug it looks like a helgrammite
  9. Roy Clark was a cousin of mine. Guitar virtuoso...got to see him jam at some family reunions
  10. I know I'm in the minority here, but I'll say it anyway. I love summer. I like the heat and humidity. 95 degrees and 90 percent humidity doesn't bother me. And besides, when bass fishing gets slow in the dog days, there's usually something biting in the saltwater.
  11. Venture CK1 by crescent kayaks, if you can find one. I got one last week, have done 2 trips and love it. Going out again in a couple hours.
  12. . A friend has had the sea eagle for years, no leaks or anything. And he uses it a lot. .I have the Bote Lono Aero. Awesome in many ways, but I just discovered a small puncture in it. Only used it about a dozen times total since I got it last summer. And they hyped it as more durable than a rigid body kayak in the videos. I'm doing a warranty claim soon.
  13. Agree with Chris. You'll be next to some top notch tarpon amd redfishing, among other species. Almost everything in saltwater fights harder than a bass. And much of it can be caught on bass gear. Go chase something you can't catch back home.
  14. DSG used to sell a 3 pack of Blakemore under spins that had Randy Howell on the package. I think they were $8 retail but I bought a bunch on clearance for like $6 per pack. To me that's a decent enough deal, but yeah they seem priced far above their components
  15. Anything by Dwight yoakam, esp 1000 miles from nowhere or guitars Cadillac or turn it on turn it up turn, me loose. Also his covers of crazy little thing called love, suspicious minds, and I want you to want, me are as good or better than the originals. Chris Stapleton is nearing that level of reverence for me A few yrs ago I saw Marty Stuart open for Chris Stapleton and it may have been the best concert I ever saw...definitely in the conversation
  16. For a few years all the non tidal sections of rivers in VA had spring flooding problems due to crazy high rainfall That wiped out a few years of spawns Also, some sections of the Shenandoah have issues related to runoff from cattle and chicken agriculture.
  17. Alabama played only SEC schools this season. That's stout.
  18. Cabelas fish eagle 2 pc on sale right now for $52
  19. Anyone know where I might find one? Internet search turned up nothing. Mine took a brief dunk and I need to tear down. Can't figure out how the handle comes off to access the rest of the internals under that sideplate. Not like my shimanos. Forgot to mention its the old gold model...PRL05H. Got it used and never disassemble yet.
  20. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I'd love to hear a review of the catch 100. Been considering one since they came out.
  21. Last night I dug up my one remaining frenzy...body shape seems a little off, but I looked at a frenzy deep diver that I still have NIB because Jay Yelas autographed it for me, and that scale pattern is so close! Also my frenzy lipless doesn't have the gill flare. Now thinking knockoff. Anyone know if it could be the Ozark trail one?
  22. I used to have a Berkley Frenzy with a similar pattern, but can't remember if the body shape was the same as that one.
  23. Bigbassin is right...wade the beaches. Saltwater fish fight better anyway. Hook into a big snook on an x rap and you may spend a lot less time chasing green fish.
  24. basscrusher replied to Mobasser's topic in Fishing Tackle
Just a side note...pork trailers are really popular among saltwater guys who throw bucktails. Many have replaced them with a product known as otter tails. Check them out.
  25. Definitely the yum big show worm. Used to be a go to bait on one of my local lakes. Got rid of them when I needed to thin the tackle herd, since zoom worms filled the same niche. Not sure I made the right move. They are discontinued so if you find some, stock up.
