Fishing smallies after the rain
I have never had much success swimming a jig and with the water temps still fairly cold, I would think you'd have more success jigging it on the bottom with a dark colored trailer. Let me know how you make out.

Fishing smallies after the rain
I have had the best luck after a day of rain using darker colored jigs and darker colored topwater baits, my favorite being a slower black buzzbait (cavitron recommended) With the muddy water, darker colors are going to be your best bet. Good Luck!

Smallies in Upstate NY
Riverfisher, great looking smallie. I have caught some decent sized smallies in the Mohawk but nothing like that. That's a beautiful looking fish. Where along the Mohawk was that caught? I fish in Fonda putting in at Duffel's Farm and in Canajoharie. What was it caught on?

Fat Ikas for large mouth?
How does everyone fish these? T-Rigged weightless?

Zoom Speed worms
How are these rigged when they are used on the top like a buzzbait? What kind of hook works best and how do you rig it on those hooks?

Smallies in Upstate NY
I fish Sacandaga regularly and have not had much success the past few summers. I agree that the Mohawk River is great for smallies, as you can catch anywhere from 3-4 fish an hour if using the right bait. Nothing real big, but no matter what size smallies are, they are always fun to catch. I have also had success on Saratoga Lake and Round Lake. Ballston Lake also has some very big largemouths for the Upstate New York area. There are many lakes in the southern Adirondacks that also have great bass fishing, including Canada Lake, Oxbow Lake, and Lake Pleasant.

Just insane!!!!
This happens all too often, with all different sorts of products, not just fishing lures. It's all about the popularity of certain goods. Absolutely sickening that people are that naive.

Cabelas Sale
The Cabela's website says they are currently having their "Gearing up for Spring" Sale and it looks as though a lot of the fishing stuff is on sale.

B.P.S. Foxboro 2010 Spring Fishing Classic...this sucks!!!
Here I was really looking forward to making the drive for the Fishing Classic at the BPS in Foxboro. I'll probably still go, but I'm not nearly as excited as I was before seeing all this. I also took a look at the circular on the BPS website for the sale and it doesn't look very good at all. Has it been better in the past?

Topwater in General
I have had a lot of success over the past few summers using a Bill Dance Spit'n Image. These are great for both largemouth and smallmouth and is a really really fun way to fish. Good Luck!

Wally-world Clearance
I need some advice. I stopped by Wal-Mart again today and saw 2 rods in the clearance section. One was part of a combo, which for whatever reason was separated from the reel. It still said combo on the sticker but was marked 50% off (I'm guessing because it didn't have a reel). I paid $30 for an Abu Garcia Black Max rod. Is this a good deal? If you think this is a good deal, what reel would you suggest I purchase for this rod? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It looks as though you have the same link, therefore there is no difference

The bait monkey strikes again. I purchased a few of the Binsky lures. Looking forward to trying them as soon as the ice is gone!

Terminator coupon
Steve, Thanks for the coupon. Anyone own these sunglasses? Are they any good? I guess it couldn't hurt to have them around as an extra pair just in case...

Bass pro?
I think it varies from store to store. It looks as though most of them run through March 14th. Go on the bass pro website and along the top it says stores. Click that and find your local store and you should be able to see when your store is having the 2010 Fishing Classic.

Carolina Rig Technique
What are the best Carolina Rigs to purchase that are already set-up? I am interested in trying this technique but would like to purchase some of the rigs that are sold already made and just add a trailer. Any help would be appreciated.

Sebile Spin Shad
Very interesting set-up in that lure. I agree that you may get some toothy critters with that lure. I recently picked up a Sebile Magic Swimmer. Anyone have any luck with these?

Berkley Frenzy Frog Popper

BBZ 6" Trout Swimbait
I just picked up a 4" BBZ in Shad brand new for $20 shipped on Ebay. I am looking forward to giving a try once the ice melts...

Swimbaits..
When I first saw the Spro 6" BBZ I thought that this hardbait would be too big for some of the smallmouth in my local lake. However, I saw Bill Siemantel fishing the 6" BBZ on Lake Champlain on a fishing show that recently aired and he was very successful catching smallmouth, many of which were not much bigger than the lure itself. Further supports the idea that the bigger the bait, the better.
