Confidence
confidence is an interchangeable word but it can have a major effect on catching fish. a friend who was fishing in a area that the winning sack and big bass came out of told me where to go and what to do for a up coming tx. he said to go to deep creek flats to the duck blind area.he gave me directions and what to look for.when we got there it was a 100+ ac. cove w/ topped out hydrilla all thru it.i never found a duck blind nor pinpointed any weed line like he explained.it didnt take long to not have any confidence in the area we were fishin.i tried to make it work but it didnt feel right.i stayed untill 8am then made the tedious trek to a area i had confidence in.the 2 nd place sack came out of deep creek flats.we may could have stayed and kept trying different things untill we got bit or we could have stayed and zeroed.i didnt have the confidence to stay. if my buddy would have took me to the entrance of that cove and gave me the same info,im sure i could have gotten on fish.i would a had the confidence to fish it. i can tell you i want confidence when im fishin.

fish movement?
i fish a hump in a phosphate mine that is very similar just not as big.if the bait fish are on the top of it bass are there, when they move off so do the bass.i have had limited success fishin the deep water surrounding it but not often.i can tell you that the bass relate to the hump because of the bait, but where they go when the bait isnt there im not sure. i know they dont go far but getting them to bite is another thing.at times they move up and down the slope .depending on the water temp they may even suspend. for two weeks strait we caught fish on a shell bed that was on the slope from 28' up to 16' at rodmans.fish moved ontp the shell bed all day long.last sat. in a tx. we pulled only two keepers off of it.go figure!

Fishing Zoom Flukes
never used the tiny ones, but for the super flukes you can do alot of differnt riggings to get it to do certain things.if i want it to stay on top i use a 4/0 gammy ewg and only go into the bait about 1/8''.if i want it to dive under i use a 5/0 superline ewg and take it down to the slit before bringing hook out.if i want to swim it i use same hook and a swivel w/ 18'' leader and a nail(size depends on how deep i want it to go)in the body.if i want it to go any deeper(15') i would put it on a c-rig

Advice Needed for Brackish Water
i fish the mouth of the suwannee river.there are some creeks you have to go out into the ocean to access.we fish along side the trout and red fisherman.it doesnt seem to hinder them at all.the beginning of tide changes seems to be the best.i dont fish any different than if i was in a lake, only the current poses some challenges.

Elites ditch Florida
the xtended drought for the last 4 yrs. has a lot to do w/ it.there are only 3 venues in fla. suitable for a B.A.S.S. tx. the big O and the harris chain dont have enough water and kissimmee chain wasnt very good this yr.when the water comes back up and fishin improves i would think fla. would be on the list.

Worm questions
size of worm to use is relative.big fish bite little worms and little fish bite big worms.a 6'' worm is somewhat standard but at certain times not what is needed.hook up ratio should be hi,there are times when they just wont take it and as stated there are times its either yearlings or panfish.for someone just gettin the hang of it i wouldnt recommend the snap set.the traditional real down untill you feel tension and set hard strait up will result (untill you get the feel for it)more and better hook ups.for a 6'' worm use a 3/0 ewg.depends on your gear if you might need a wire hook.a bass of any size will take the bait as soon as you feel it. r

Finding big Bass...
the point you showed should be a good bet to get you a biggun.ditch the swimbait for the most part.not sayin its not a good bait but use it only in certain situations.a 1/2 oz-3/4 oz football head jig w/ a beefy craw trailer and /or a 10'' power worm on a c-rig.dont give up on the point.bass will stage on it thru out the day.search for the sweet spot.set up on it at different angles untill you find the right way to fish it .be persistent,if you know others that have caught big fish off the spot then you just need to figure out how to get em to bite.

dead sticking
it must be emphacized that it is not a good practice to throw out your bait and forget about it for several min.you can and will gut hook fish that will be harmful to them. deadstick is a technique that requires constant attention to your bait so you'll know when you get bit. it is a technique used mainly on nuetral or negative fish, fish that are not actively feeding.which is most of the time. how long to let a bait sit is anywhere from 15 sec. to a min. or more usually depends on the patience of the fisherman.there are situations if you know you are on fish to let it sit longer.

Lake Cycles: Tough Fishing in Florida
to reply to the original ? this yr. in the lakes im fishin seem to be a down yr. also.i think there are different factors in lakes.there are natural land locked lakes that are different in alot of ways compared to resevoirs, impoundments and flow in and out lakes like K.the drought has affected most all lakes in fla.there are some waters like rodmans that the water level and quality hasnt affected it to a damaging degree.lake K may be in this catagory i dont know.but it has had a dramatic adverse affect the big O.in the natural lakes i fish it has had a major impact,in water levels, water quality, plant growth.all which affects the spawn, growth rate, etc. this spring was the most unsettled ive noticed in a few yrs.and then it turns off to extremely high temps which raises the water temp unnaturally.in most of the lakes i fish this has shut the bite down dramatically.yes, there are still a few who seem to find fish but overall its tough,at least tougher than last yr. there are always exceptions.3 yrs. ago orange was almost dried up and bass fishin was pooooor.then the water came up some and it had a great spawn and now its payin big dividends even in low water conditions.the grass is plentiful and healthy and pressure is low due to only one ramp open .its not unusual to go and catch 50+ 2lb. or better bass. maybe some of the guides and the top bass anglers around arent havin any trouble adapting, although i believe some are.the avg. joe basser is experiencing something different in fla. lakes this yr. and yrs. to come if our water levels, quality and management dont improve.

Zoom Trick Worms

setting the hook with 10" worms
there is no difference in fishin a 7'' worm to a 10'' worm.the bigger worm will deter some smaller bass from bitin it ,but ive caught just as many dinks as monsters on 10'' worms.a bass of 2lbs. can inhale a 10'' worm just as quik as a shorter worm. the 4-0 is under sized for a 10'' worm but will work in a pinch.personally i use a 7/0 strait shank round bend .what i wouldnt do is bite off or shorten the 10'' worm.your befeating the whole purpose of the bait, just use a shorter worm if your going to do that. a bass of any size is not going to short strike a 10'' worm,if your gettin short strikes your gettin bit by little fish i'll agree a 10'' worm could be considered a big bass bait ,but not always.there are situations that call for the longer worm to get bit period.ive caught just as many big fish on shorter worms of 4 to 6'' as bigger ones.there is a time and place for every size worm

Hydrilla/Millfoil
as you become accustomed to fishin the knarrly stuff you'll have fewer and fewer issues w/ stuff clingin to your baits.once you make friends w/ the stuff it will treat you better and you'll ever hardly notice it. now... the stuff we call snot grass is another story. after many yrs. me and snot grass have yet to become friends and he treats me very bad.i dont like snot grass and its apparent it dont like me!
