First to summer patterns...
yes, typically the larger females spawn first and move out first.they also dont roam as much as the smaller bass so they take up permanent residence sooner, but water temp plays a big part of bass movement so everything is relative concerning seasonal patterns.

Lake George
i very rarely fish george,i dont like lookin for needles.if i had too.i would hit behind drayton island on the n. end early.the area from george up to lil george for a min. into the day if i had to stay in the lake i would key in on docks on the e. side.maybe look for some eel grass beds on the s. west end. personally i would run down to woodruf and dexter and fish the lakes but thats a haul. word of caution:if your not familiar w/ nav. george it is and can be dangerous.there are certain lanes you can run in and if you get in the wrong places you can get in trouble.many idle only zones, manatee zones and they do patrol it strictly.use diligence and common sense and you'll be fine. the river rats seem to do good in george but it is intimidating to me .way to much water.

Lake George
your not going to find any known lake in fla. thats not subject to heavy fishin pressure.Harris is a very good bass lake that holds up to pressure really well.its a far easier lake to fish than lake george.for most lakes this is a transition time from post spawn to summer haunts and fishin can be rather tough.my recommendations for the jax. area would be kerr lake, rodmans,or even stella.george is a big lake that is hard to navigate and the fish are only in small concentrated areas.unless your familiar w/ george it would be like hunting a needle in a haystack.

When a fish wraps you around a tree/stump/brush
on land i would do just the opposite. if you keep a tight line the fish cant unwrap and will come unhooked.your only hope is to give her slack line and hope she works her way free.more times than not they will.some you'll win and some you'll lose

Rodman

Carolina Rig Question???
c-rig bite is by feel.you dont want any slack line or you'll miss alot of bites.as you sweep the rod horizontally you will feel every little bump on the bottom.if you detect a bite or even think you have a bite stop your motion and check your line. check means finger the line a feel for a bite..most times it is a very subtle bite that your not going to be sure so check the line reel up any slack and check again.if you even think its a bite use a long horizontal sweep while reelin untill you feel the fish hooked up.i always use two hooksets on a c- rig to make sure. you have to take up much more line on hookset than on a t-rig. w/ the c-rig the object is to cover water or bottom untill you find fish then you can slow it down and work the area .i.e. point, drop, what ever your fish, but untill i find fish the bait is always in motion on a taunt line. i feel most angler use the c-rig wrong and thats why they dont like it as much as a t-rig.its a bottom bumpin search biat untill you get bit . most fish it to slow and never cover enough water to make it effective. i like the hook up on a c-rig way better than on a t- rig. a 2 lber feels like a monster in 10+ ft. of water on hook up.

Grass-N-Bass
i totally agree, but would like to add something.several of the lakes im fishin has some good stands of young hydrilla that is 3 to 4' tall in 6 to 7' of water.this leave about 3 to 4' from the surface.i tx. fish these lakes every weekend and on tues. nites,so, covering water is imperative to try and find fish.traps, spinner biats, and shallow cranks work at times and sometimes are whats necessary, but for me i consistently find and catch fish w/ a modified c- rig w/ a ultravibe speed worm.i use a 1/8 oz. rattlin florida rig weight w/ the rubber insert above a 18'' swivel and a zoom speed worm.i cast it out and let it settle on the grass and then give it a little pop reel a couple ft. and repeat process.i feel the rattlin weight and the vibe tail draw them uop out of the grass.at times i use a 1/4 oz. swimmin jig w/ a ultravibe speed craw w/ good success. once i locate fish then i work the area w/ verticle and bottom bumpin techniques to see if they are congregated. just a twist to locating fish in the grass!

Rodman
water level is at full pool.clarity is improving in the stump field area and so is the bite.many are fishin from the power lines south in the river channel.grass is just startin to grow and this should make for some really good fishin .last week in the x treme tx. there were 3 sacks over 15+ and one almost 13.weve been gettin between 10 and 12.5 in the stump fields when the wind will let you fish.

heavy rains
if your not a structure fisherman, rapidily rising water will draw fish shallower.into areas that may have been dry before the rise.they are typically tight to cover so you'll have to pitch and flip to bushes and cover.they will also relate to the inside edges of grass lines.

Rain and the Effects It Has On Bass
rain in general may have some short term effects but unless it has muddied the water or appreciably risen the water the fish wont do anything unusual.if anything it will bring them closer to the bank.in most situations it should be a good thing.it injects oxygen, aereates the water, dispels carbon dioxide, stirs the waters alittle.

Your Weapon When Fishing Pads
ultravibe speed worm.1st cast buzz on top,2nd cast swim it under the surface and 3 rd cast drop it to the base of every pad root.

Brand Worms

Lake Panasoffkee Florida
cant help you on a report but some insight.the lake has been in a dredging project for the last couple yrs.last i heard it still was.several key areas have been dredged and grass is already growing back.i would call tracy's to find out which part of the lake is under construction,if no other reason for safety purposes.the lake has always been noted for two bites, one is flippin the other open water lipless over submerged grass.the lake got really low but came up some first part of this yr.but not to normal levels.the dredging and low water has hurt the bite but is a good big bass lake which at times gives up good numbers. report from 4/30-Yea, I heard they were catching them way up the river as well but not until after we were done with two days of fishing . I finished with 5 fish for 6.12lbs in two days as the fishing was fairly slow. I threw a trap and a shadrap about 5000 times on day one in the eel grass potholes and managed about a dozen shorts. Missed one nice about 2-3 lbs as it spit my trap. I changed tactics on day two and found some fish around the shore in the northwest side of the lake. I was catching them on Bitter's Salty Slings in both Blueberry and Black. I was tossing them at the shoreline weed edges and letting the wind (current) take it under the edge. Also, pulled a few off of docks. That was good enough for second place as the fishing was real tough. 1st place caught about 9 pounds on day two with a trap and 3rd place did good day 1 along the shore by Tracy's point with different lures. They are about half-way done with the dredging out there and was told they have about a year left.

LOOKING TO FISH Florida.
yep, sorry.they have changed it up.still...if i had never been there before and wanted to have a good time then i would hire a guide.same w/ sm.hire george and he will show you more in a day than you could ever learn on your own and although not guaranteed you would be confident that you would catch fish and be in line for that hawg.

LOOKING TO FISH Florida.
you can bring your own boat and you dont have to hire a guide at bienville.although it is advised the first time.

Question for the mat flippers...
maybe mats are different elsewhere than here in fla. but line watchin plays no part in flippin topped out mats.its all by feel.you can only learn the feel by experiencing it.most bites you'll be able to know you got bit,a few you'll never knew you got bit and some you develop a sense of getting bit.if your flippin mats you have at least 1oz. of weight on the end and you always have tension on the line. once you get thru the mat let it go to the bottom keepin tension on the line.i let it hang still for several seconds and then i shake it in place, then i pull it up to the bottom of the mat and bang it on the mat several times, then i let it sit a couple secs. pull it out move it over a few feet and repeat process. the biggest obstacle in mat fishin is patience.it is painfully slow process and takes many flips to get bit.most that arent use to it give up before they get the hang of it. now, theres a big difference in fishin hydrilla and flippin hydrilla mats. garry, where are you flippin mats.if its lang your pretty much wastin your time.let me know and maybe i can help you out.is it hydrilla, hyacynths or what.

So You Just Caught Your Limit...
depends on the time of yr. if its spawn and the bed fishermen are going to throw a big sack on you then i target big fish only, but in most tx. i want a limit,as fast as i can. it gives me confidence and settles me down to go fish for upgrades or a kicker.that would mostly be flippin or c-riggin deep water.

Search bait versus others
fish your strenghts.if your more confident fishin shallow and w/ plastics then start there.dont search w/ a crank bait if your not comfortable w/ it just to find fish.i most always start shallow, unless conditions say other wise.i'll have several different types of search baits tied on.top water, soft and wire buzz baits, frogs, spinner baits, shallow cranks, lip and lipless depending on the cover im fishin.if i find fish then i'll throw in a t-rig plastic or jig.if that doesnt turn anything then i'll move out to points, drops, docks, and work those the same way. one thing i can tell you is fishin in general is not luck.bass are predictable and you have to have the confidence to believe you will catch them.if you leave it to luck you'll come up short more times than not.

Best Technique for Post Spawn?
just after the spawn the females are in a sullen mood.it takes them a while to become active.they wont go to far from where they spawned.the males are just the opposite, they are aggressive guarding the bed and then fry and will attack anything. there is a short window when the females get over it that they will go on a feeding frenzy, this is top water time.once that period is over then they start a move back to deeper water.secondary points, first drops, submerged grass, deeper weedlines will be the route back to eventually summer haunts. its that few weeks of feeding frenzy we all dont want to miss .here in fla. its just starting in some lakes.

St Johns near Astor
woodruff and dexter have been hot all spring.top water early and plastics in the submerged grass during the day.on the tide turns there has been schooling activity on the shell beds at creek mouths.pad fields w/ frogs and especially buzz tails anytime.prime time for post spawn fish holding to points and drop offs ready to feed.the river can be intimidating, fish to your strengths ,find a area that suits what you do, recognize the tide at hand and figure where the fish should be positioned and fish.plenty of fish in that area.
