  1. Went yesterday for about 8 hours and, as usual, the fish were few and far between. Caught several short fish early cranking rocks, and saw several other boats catch some fish doing the same thing. Then wasted about 3 or 4 hours without a bite before finally managing a couple decent fish. pics and original thread here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1225576178
  2. Launched at the state park ramp early today with Triton9 and had a very slow day. Water temps were around the low 60's in the lake and mid to low 50's in the rivers. There were boats everywhere out there so most spots got hammered all day long, we did manage to scrape up a couple fish on a jig and a crankbait by the end of the day though...
  3. Drop-shot and jigs are my two most versatile techniques, they both can be fished slow or fast, in any type of cover, and will catch fish in almost every situation.
  4. good lawwwwwwd!!!! I have to say that is one sexy lookin bait, it almost looks like a Fish Arrow Monster Jack, except soft plastic
  5. Awesome fish and great report, I'm definitely gonna have to take a trip up there soon. However, That ruined it for me, TB baby!!!! ;)
  6. The RI sweet beaver in green pumpkin/red texas rigged with a 3/0 gam. superline wide gap and a 3/8oz weight is my top producing shallow water bait for stained or dirty water and heavy cover. For clearer water or sparse cover I prefer a green pumpkin baby brush hog, Robo zipper worm, or one of my eakins style jigs.
  7. Ahh what you used my friend was the 4" dead ringer, possibly the deadliest tidal river bait ever made and one of my all time favorites
  8. Did All-Star decide to replace them with the ASR series? I used to have an arsenal of American Classics, they were my favorite rods until I started to discover the more expensive "better" rods. I caught a lot of big fish on those sticks and they were an awesome rod for the money, sad to see them go
  9. I fish year round so I will be out on the water all through the winter, but hunting and baseball conditioning are going to take up a good chunk of my time too.
  10. I'm not sure what the water temps are up there but I'm sure the fish have started to move to the backs of the creeks. I can't give you specific areas but I would suggest cranking and throwing rat-l-traps across secondary points, also go to the backs of creeks and burn a spinnerbait or square bill shallow crank across any shallow cover. Be on the lookout for schooling fish early and if you can get into a nice school of stripers then yer in for a treat.
  11. The whole month of October has been extremely tough on all of the rivers around here. I think the summer/fall transition has thrown the bite off, just like it does every year. However I did talk to some people who fished the Chick river Classic and the winner had 12lbs, which is a pretty good bag for that river, so hopefully the fall bite has started to pick up.
  12. Around here (VA) we got a couple that seem to only apply here and in other southern states... Bogger= A lifted 4x4 truck meant for mud boggin' Junker= Cheap stock car used for the U-CAR series or Modify series at the local race tracks WFO= I think most of yall know wat that one means lol Brew= Beer Chaw= Chew Plug/lip dirt= Dip Rockfish= Striped bass Puppy drum= juvenile reddrum Hammer back= set the hook To flame/blaze= Either means you shot something or yer blazin drunk lol ;D
  13. Water temps don't really come into play much with me, as long as it aint sleeting and freezing rain out I'll hit the river. Actually one of my most productive days last winter was during snow showers
  14. Looks good to me but I bet it would look great to the fish. Just nose hook the lil fella and shake it and drag it til you get bit.
  15. To see Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert in concert GO!!! I saw both of em friday night and Blake has got to be one of the coolest, most down to earth, and funniest sob's in the business. Together they put on a great show, and watching Miranda strut back and forth across the stage makes it that much better
  16. Alright thanks. I've got my eyes on a Dobyn's swimbait rod and I'm about to place my order for a 3:16 Baby Wake and a Fish Arrow Wake Jack Jr. But I have one more question, have any of yall ever done much with a black wakebait during daylight? I usually only use black wakebaits at night but that black baby wake really caught my eye
  17. Awesome posts guys thanks so much for the info. I have one other question for fourbizz and any other big bait regulars, what attributes do you look for in a rod for these big wakebaits? I know a lot of companies now make "swimbait" rods but I want yalls incite on what the ideal wakebait rod should have pertaining to length, power, action, weight etc. Thanks again.
  18. I have not really had much of a chance to get into the big bait craze because of financial limitations and the areas I have available to me don't really support the big bait big fish theory (if anyone here has fished the tidal chickahominy or pamunkey rivers you know exactly what I'm talking about) But there are two large lakes I fish every once in a while and wakebaits have been gettin it done every time I've been this year. So I am looking to upgrade my limits and try out some monster wake baits, i.e. Monster Jack or 3:16 Wake jr. And I am wondering what kind of tackle yall prefer for throwing these big baits and what techniques or conditions have produced best for you?
  19. I aint been there in a couple years either. I have never fished it in the fall but I know in the summer skipping docks with 4" finesse worms and working points with drop-shot and football jigs is effective. What drove me crazy was seeing the hundreds of bass schooled up under each dock and watching them ignore everything I threw at em.
  20. Baby brush hogs and sweet beavers
  21. The fishing has been poor to say the least for the last 3 weeks, so whatever bites you do get you better get em in the boat.
  22. Seaguar InvizX is the only fluoro I use, I would like to try Toray's line of FC but I'm not sure if I can bring myself to spend that much on line.
  23. Pointer 100 in chart. shad
  24. These are some great posts guys, and I never though about adding a rattle to it, thanks islandbass Sam, you have got to throw it in the Pamunkey this winter! I absolutely destroyed em on it last winter fishing the wood on high tide and drop offs on outgoing tide. If only there were more tournaments out there in the cold months
