  1. I have 2 Champion XP DC 736C F/H rods I use for frog fishing. The reel's are the Shimano Bantam's MGL's with 50 lb Sunline FX-2. I fish in heavy cover & getting the fish out of the cover is not a problem. These rods are outstanding for fishing in this type of cover, & they are always on my deck.
  2. This for 3/8 & 1/2 oz. https://dobynsrods.com/product/dx-744c-fh/ or this for 3/4 & larger, https://dobynsrods.com/product/dx-745c-fh/
  3. If they are not working for you Change baits, maybe to a moving bait. Crankbait, Spinnerbait, Swimbait. etc.
  4. https://dobynsrods.com/product/dc-610-4c/ This Rod is designed for skipping
  5. I use Dobyns Rods for my Frog fishing. I too was looking for a 7 ft. rod so I called Dobyns Rods for Advice. The man I spoke with recommended the Champion XP DC 736C FH. I ended up purchasing & in Heavy Cover that 6 power gets the job done. I now have another one & two Champion XP DC 735C FH that I use for jigs. Both these are excellent rods. For fishing in heavy cover or slop You will not go wrong with the Champion XP DC 736C FH. You did not say what type of water you fish but a 4 power rod might be a problem getting good hook sets with those heavy duty hooks on a Frog
  6. I have a Shimano Scorpion DC on a 4 power fast tip rod that works well for me. I saw where you mention a Dobyns rod so just to let you know another site has a 20% off on Dobyns rods on their Easter Sale.
  7. At 0800 I am still checking my eye lids to make sure they don't leak. I usually roll out at the crack of noon.
  8. How do you get the skunk out of the boat if you do not bring the fish into the boat?
  9. Mine does the same thing. I think it's the different grade of Cork.
  10. It's a fact that bass like to face into the current. I fish into the wind often this way the fish can see it sooner instead of when it goes by the fish. One of my go to baits is a spinnerbait & it's always on to a rod that has a Shimano DC reel. I roll cast a spinnerbait, buzzbait, & a jig into the wind & have very little problem with a backlash. I have several of the DC reels & tend to use the Japanese versions( better braking system) or the older models (Calais or Antares). I feel they will make most fisherman better. I have seen the SLX DC for around $175 & the Scorpion DC for under $250 which is a very good reel for that price.
  11. I too own a Champion XP DC 765 CB & agree with fishballer06
  12. I purchased a Metanium 20 thru Pay Pal & got a receipt from them. It was shipped on the 1st. & I received it on the morning of the 4th. I have done a good bit of business with them & don't ever remember getting a receipt from Digitaka.
  13. https://dobynsrods.com/product/dc-734c-fh/ This is the rod I use for Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits, Chatterbaits, & swim baits.. I keep 2 on deck one with a spinnerbait & the other with a buzzbait. A spinnerbait is one of my go to baits. This rod is a well balanced & woks great with the above baits. I do use the full handle version rods.
  14. I bought this rod this rod a couple of months ago & have been using it for the baits you ask about. https://dobynsrods.com/product/kd610-4cb/. I have not had it long enough to test a lot of baits but the following are what I have tried. Squarebills, Torpedo's, Jerkbaits, & Traps. Those baits work very well with that rod. I will also say that This rod really can get a 1/4 oz. trap out there.
  15. I don't there is a class for Bass so they can be taught the rules.
  16. I have both the reels you ask about & like both. I use the the K for Spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, Jigs, & larger top water baits( using 14 or 16 lb test Shooter line). The MGL I use for Texas rigs, Carolina rigs ( using 12 lb Daiwa J-Fluoro Samurai Hidden Concept Camo Fluorocarbon Line). You can't go wrong with either but if was choosing it would be the MGL. I also have the 19 Scorpion MGL (https://www.digitaka.com/items/5/4/2/SCORPION+MGL) Which without a doubt I would choose over the other two! It's very smooth & can handle any of the above baits. The 3 reels are all the XG model.
  17. To catch fish.
  18. I don't worry about what anyone says unless they sign my pay checks!!!
  19. Dink Whisperer hit that nail on the head !!!
  20. To expand on my post about the Bantam Xg for Frog fishing I I believe the speed is better. Here is why. I use a 6 power rod when Frog fishing, when I set the hooks it's hard enough to cross his eyes this will go a long way toward keeping his head up. The speed of the reel & the power of the rod helps keeping the fish skimming across the top by keeping the slack out of your line. The fish does not have as much time to wrap you around something & get off. Be sure that you don't let your line go slack upon landing. Tight Lines.
  21. I have 2 Shimano Bantam MGL casting reels that I use for frog fishing. These reels are everything they say they are. They are great for frog fishing. They do have a upgraded version coming out this month thru June or July which I plan on trying one to see the difference.
  22. Call Dobyns at 903 919 8028 & ask them for help.
  23. I do not have the DX 704. The difference between the DX 704 & the DX 744 is the length, the power is the same. As I said above I use 3/8 OZ & above but it would not hurt to try a couple of the lighter ones.
