  1. I did some reading online about these type of units from various companies. The way I understand it, if you set the way point from the from front unit, then that means whatever unit you look it up on will lead you to that spot until that unit is located at that position. So if you set it on the front unit, and then come back later using the rear unit, it will take you to that spot as of where the rear unit is, regardless of where the other unit is. I did read where some newer units actually synchronize their locations so the unit gives you the option of "waypoint where front unit is", "waypoint where rear unit is", or "waypoint halfway between units".
  2. I don't think that is ice on Mapquest (but it might be), whenever there is a light wind, light chop and the sun hits it right, you just see the glare like on mapquest. Also the nice green golfcourse to the west-southwest of it, and green lawns north of the lake show it is likely early sring when the grass turns green quick but not the trees yet. Personally I dislike mapquest, partially because their maps suck, and also because they are connected to evil AOL
  3. In lake areas look for suspending or bottom bass typically 8-15 feet down. Try some super slow presentations with big jigs, 5"+ senko/SK worms and possibly deep swimbait that you just leave in front of their faces for 30-45 minutes with faint twitches caused by the waves and ticks of the rod tip. For creeks, find the slowest moving water and try pretty much the same presentations as deep as possible.
  4. Imagery date May 31, 2007 (according to Google Earth)
  5. ;D ;D With VanDam up front this early he may be tough to beat. My guess is he'll stay on his fish. That's one top ten place locked up. Look at his cull numbers. Gerald Swindle and Aaron Marten's also have high cull numbers. There are no bass on beds yet down there, right?? no because of the snow, snow melt and cold temperatures, I think the water is probably in the low to mid 40s throughout much of the lake, so I doubt the bass have even started their pre-spawn movements yet. Especially since it has been a longer and colder than usual winter. I would think the best like KVD have moved up into some of these tributary arms that don't have much water movement and warm up faster, and may potentially be starting their pre-spawn moving... hard to say for sure though.
  6. I am talking about the real view from the google satellite image like what I used in my image above and put the red line on top to show the channel based on the darker areas, which typically is the channel Original image posted: and then my image with the red line overlay, if you notice the red line takes the route of the darkest path which is usually the channel I pretty much followed the darkest line from inlet to outlet Here is the map overlay from their website which takes the channel right through the shallow silt and a composite of all 3 showing their channel (based on original creek/riverbed) and my channel (based on real satellite imagery). That shows that since it has become a lake, the channel bed has changed due to silt and more. Now I know that it is possible I am wrong and that satellite image was during an algae bloom or lots of light dirt in the channel itself in which case my redline is wrong. Only someone with a depthfinder at those locations will be able to verify things one way or the other.
  7. There is the BassTrakk page that shows unofficial standings 1 Billy McCaghren * 14 lbs 13 oz 2 Takahiro Omori * 14 lbs 12 oz 3 Kevin VanDam * 14 lbs 8 oz 4 Jeff Kriet * 12 lbs 2 oz 2 lbs 5 Cliff Pace * 10 lbs 8 oz
  8. I wonder how recent that PDF map is. Maybe they dredged the lake and changed the channel since the google satellite map? They have it a good 50 feet off the dark channel line in the satellite imagery... I guess the only way to know is to actually go and look at the proper depths.
  9. I don't follow them very closely but a blown engine cannot be good for anyone
  10. I will have one or two on shore (but no more unless I am close to the camper), and if the location allows, but never on a boat unless someone else is driving. Most of the lakes and ponds around here are either state park, forest service or military land, none of which allow alcohol on their land.
  11. Looking at the satellite images, it appears there is the primary channel (thick red line) and then a small secondary channel (small red line) in the warmer weather and when they start spawning, I would think that are areas between the primary and secondary channels should hold some decent sized fish since it also allows them quick access to food that may be going by in the channel itself. In the colder weather (45º and under) I would think that they will hold close to the bottom, in the darker area by Baypoint Beach Dr, and the Metropark to the east and then deeper water west and east of the main channel flow by the dam/reservoir. The inlet off Park Rd to the east side may have some cold weather bass since there is little to now water movement.
  12. thats along the lines of what I was going to say... theres nothing wrong with that as the flash of yellow might catch their eye in clear/slightly murky water...
  13. I understood it to relate to north/south which also tends to be the normal flow of most lakes... Usually in lakes with more than one main river coming in, they change their terminology to "eastern leg", western leg, and then usually lower end. Bet they would have a tough time classifying a lake here that has 3 arms coming in with 1 or 2 inlet creeks each, and the end by the dam is actually east by southeast ;D
  14. Two words: retaining strap. thats the plans with my next pair... oh well live and learn
  15. I agree. As long as there is no nicks or line damage, it should be fine. Remember that many times line sits in warehouses and the shelf for some months or years before you even buy it (sometimes), so a few more months on a reel should not be a problem.
  16. so far in the past 3 nights of watching, we have heard 2 bad words and saw a olympian mouth a 3rd... Last night before carrot top hit the second run of the skiboard competition (that he had already won on his first run), his trainer said "kick the s ** t. out of them" on live TV.. 2 nights ago heard an olympian halfway through a quick interview say da**it... and then 3 nights ago a female ice skater was seen mouthing f**k Granted thats PG-13 nowadays but still a surprise that they don't have a 1 minute delay or something to bleep that stuff out.
  17. it is common to see a 50+ lb carp pulled out of 20-65 acre lakes here
  18. yep many times if nothing else works during the fall and winter here in north FL, they go after chicken skin or liver almost exclusively and won't touch anything else. I have caught bream of all types (bluegill, shellcracker, warmouth) on that... some of the larger ones have been in the 12-14" range.
  19. Many of the channel and bull cats fishermen locally like the heavy action 7' Ugly stick... I have even seen a 20" cat break one of those rods off during the heat of the summer when they hit the warmer water... he was able to still get it in using the lower half of the rod and using his hands (with thick leather gloves) pulling some of the line up.
  20. agreed... stock up on canned food an ammo now, never know when it will hit the fan
  21. Also need to remember that many of these people expect to sit on their butt doing nothing, and when they get a boss that actually makes them work for their paycheck, they throw a fit and call it a terrible job (and usually quit). I have worked with plenty of these types through the past 20 years, better to ignore them. I do have a friend working for them as a rental agent right now in SD and he says they are a great company to work for.
  22. Who is sitting there watching the Olympics on TV? People who sit in front of TVs... what is the food that couch potatoes like? fast food aka McDonalds... so they are going after their target audience. the rest of the people that actually get exercise is probably out doing something better than sitting there watching the Olympics lol
  23. I would avoid them... they are not even listed on resellerratings.com which is bad
  24. yeah bass thumb always seems to be a bigger problem than baitcast thumb ;D
  25. have fun... wish I had some tips but the few times I went saltwater I did not like it... but thats just my personal preference.
