  1. I treat everyone out there like I want to be treated. Last time I was out a few weeks ago another boat ran right over to my Crig after seeing I caught a fish and started fishing. Directly on top of where I was casting to. These incidents are few but, I just wondered about the rest of y'all. Couldn't catch anything of size today. Topwater in grass was good till about 0830 in toro. I think I caught every kentucky in the lake today offshore. Hopin for a better tomorrow.
  2. I have never fished it before but, I am gonna give it a shot. Question......how close do you let other people get to you before you say something to the other boat? Or do you say or do anything at all? Curious to know how you guys handle these situations. I have only fished a few tournaments. Usually out of the army rec. I have never fished with this much traffic before.
  3. I haven't been out in weeks. I am probably going this weekend at Army rec site. No plans on where I am going yet though. I gotta do some studying!!
  4. I worked the heck out of that area. Traps spinners trig crig. I was in the boat lane fishing. Worked that area pretty well. I went all around it. I threw a c-rig but not a texas rig. Thanks for the tip!
  5. I started at the point just to the east of FNF and continue to work east. Never went up to the bank. i wanna fish Fort Polk spring open tournament out of army rec later this month but, at this rate i don't see it happening.
  6. I will be out and about this weekend also. Maybe monday also. Launch out of Army rec. White triton TR20. I am the one that looks like he knows what he is doing but really doesn't! I had some good success on the south side of housen with traps over grass on points last weekend. Didn't get one bite on a C rig or a texas rig. I may be fishing too deep too early. I wanna try flippin this weekend cause I am starting to get the hang of it. I also wanna start exploring new areas of the lake I haven't fished before. This is my 5th season on the bend so I have a lot to learn still.
  7. that is one of my favorite areas to fish. Also the back of Sandy creek. I haven't been to either one yet this year though. Hope it is a good lily pad year!
  8. Fished yesterday. Didn't do well. Should have saved my gas money. The biggest fish I saw was when I launched at the rec site. Bout a 4 pounder in about 6 inches of water with a bunch of babies. Could have netted it from the bank as I walked right up to it. Watched it for a little while. Looked like she was trying to lead them somewhere.
  9. I may go tomorrow. It's a toss up.
  10. They started generating. 24 hrs. till further notice. Gotta get out there.
  11. Looks like I will wait till Monday. Didn't realize there were 3 big tourneys going on at the same time. Thanks for the tip.
  12. 176.76 is the level this morning. Almost to 168!!! Thanks for the tip fishnla.
  13. I don't know about you guys but it looks like this rain we are gonna get will put us over the 167 mark which is just less than a foot from the safe boat lane depth of 168. Iclass, you may just be in luck as far as the lanes go. I fish pretty much the same areas as you do and launch out of the army rec site next to pirates.
  14. Well...that does make me feel a little better!! LOL! Weather doesn't look too promising for this coming weekend but, I'll be in Houston. Hopefully get out there again Monday.
  15. At first we went shallow. Maybe we didn't stay there long enough. I felt our best shot was pre and post spawn stagers with all the boats. Seems we fished areas that contained both shallow grass and nearby deeper channels trying to cover both shallow and deep. For instance when we had no luck in the back of hurricane, we went to the mouth and worked around the point thoroughly both shallow and deep. I then chose to work a channel leading to the north bank of housen that had grass at about 6 ft. on each side of it. We continued like that trying to cover both shallow and deep with no luck.
  16. I went yesterday got a late start @ 1030 due to a dental appointment. It looked like a saturday out there. Boats everywhere!! I got skunked. SKUNKED!!! I couldn't believe it. Still scratchin my head. My partner and I went to hurricane cove. he caught 2 about 13 inches. Went to the area by Fox's lodge. he caught one keeper. Fished the north bank of housen, hurricane, fox's lodge, several areas in toro. Spinnerbaits, rattle traps, tx rigs, c- rigs, crank baits. deep and shallow. I didn't even get one bite. Not one. very frustrating to say the least. Seems they ought to be almost jumping in the boat this time of year. An outing like this usually gets you thinking about what you did wrong. I have no clue what we did wrong.
  17. Anyone know if they are done working on the launch at indian mounds?
  18. Thanks Jim and Bullet. I did find it yesterday. Long drive from leesville but, that is the area I wanted to fish. I unlatched the back of the boat and backed in the water to see how much of a drop off it was. Tires on the trailer went off of the rocks down into the mud. I barely made it out spinning the tires cause I dont have any weight in the back end of my truck so I did not feel comfortable launching there. I went over to the indian mounds to find it blocked off with equipment. They had it dug out and the water dammed off. Don't know if they are gonna pour concrete there or what. Maybe it will be ready by this weekend? I drive a clean Black 82 GMC 1/2 ton with a triton white/blue TR-20.
  19. Looks like i am going to go tomorrow. I have been tryin to find exactly where white oak launch is located to get there but, I can't seem to locate it on a map.
  20. I may give it a try this coming weekend. I don't think I have another choice if I wanna fish that area. I'll have a chain with me.......just in case.
  21. Anyone know of a paved launch near housen? As I understand it, white oak has gravel and I just don't think my 1/2 ton 82 gmc has enough weight on the back tires to pull a 20 ft. triton out of the water there.
  22. Headed out tomorrow. I have heard that Pirates cove has extended their launch. Gonna give it a try and see. I'll let y'all know.
  23. That is awesome Don. Congratulations!!
  24. I would have stayed all day if that north wind hadn't picked up as much as it did. That couple of hours of cloud cover before that and a good ripple next to grass really turned em on. It was fun. One thing I noticed.....the bigger fish are eating brim. Gotta cut firewood the next couple days before i go back out.
  25. After seeing how far i would have to drive to get to white oak I decided to stay south and launch at site 7. I saw people runnung the louisiana boat lanes north of the island to toro and running the lanes in toro! Somebody is gonna get hurt bad and I sure thought I would see it but not today. There are huge stumps all over the place. Fishing was good. had 3 4 lbers. and a few keepers and little guys. and then the wind came out of the north and the rollers had rollers. That was a long trip back. Spinnerbait and a ribbit frog produced my biggest fish. Good ripple near grass with cloud cover just before the wind and water got too big.
