  1. went up n trolled for trout. Caught 3 and one crappie. Marked fish on the bottom. Tried to drop shot and jig with no bites. Water 43-45 by end of day.
  2. Ive been out three times lately and have not not gotten a bite, even tried live minnows c rig. Water is 48 in one low lake and 43 in the higher lakes. I hear of people catching a few, but not me.
  3. what yak do you have? Some are made to fit certain brands.
  4. 3 on board chargers aer under $200 at big name stores
  5. you can get an OK T13 used, in the $600 range in Calif, it will usually come with seat, paddle and sometimes a FF. The Prowler maybe cheaper.
  6. I had a similar problem when my charger went bad. One bank did not sense the full charge and was overcharging the battery on that bank. I got the rotten egg smell too. So, I only plugged in the charger the night before til i got a new unit.
  7. There are trout, crappie, cats, bass and carp in this lake. The lake is at 6% of its capacity, 47-49* and a clear day. I went out this weekend and found LOTS of fish coming up from the bottom and swimming in many directions. There were also tons of carp visible on the surface...so, I "think" most of these fish on the FF were the carp scattering as I went over them as they seem to do that visibly near the suface as well. I also saw some fish stacked on top of each other on the bottom or suspended near the bottom, These fish did not swim away, but some would come up to the depth of my lure as if to have a look. So, the question I have is were the stacked fish most likely the bass? I tried to jig them with plastics on the bottom, jig with spoon, drop shot and live minnows. No takers.
  8. when I took my Symetre apart to clean it after a dunk in my kayak i found it had an o-ring that sealed it and kept any water from getting inside. This makes it a good choice for this type of use where the reel may get wet.
  9. Ive been using 10# braid tied with a swivel to a 3-4' flouro leader for 2 yrs now. Fine wire hook on a ML weight rod. The swivel keeps the line twist out. No problems with it.
  10. mine casts the same line about 20' further than my chronarch
  11. what yak do you have? Some have premade mounts and fit certain models better than others. OK yaks work with Humminbird FF for instance. I have a OK T13, but I used the $189 Lowrance Mark4 that is black n white but it has amazing resolution. I can see the fish on the bottom and see my jigs on the way down and bouncing...tell us more.
  12. Bass Lake is off SR41 near the city of Oakhurst in Madera county. Its 3500' elev. has bass, trout n Kokanee salmon.
  13. trout, cats are biting at Hensley. Water is down to 6%. Im going there this Sat 1-11. No ramps avail to launch a boat, but I have a kayak and am gonna see what i can make happen. Be there and launch by 9am or so.
  14. Ive got the 798 on the bow and wish it had a larger screen since it is mounted by my feet. I would use the 798 at the helm and get the larger screen for the bow. Im doing this as my next upgrade.
  15. Shimano Clarus rod, Symetre is also a nice reel
  16. here in CA it seems a Senko in green and a drop shot for when all else fails -Zoom Trick in green.
  17. yes easy flat, but not a round end bit, an oval or flat end with rounded corners. Maybe moot and is the same amount of work to cut. I was thinking the cutter would be more complex to grind, but everything is mass produced nowadays
  18. I bend my drop shot hooks with pliers to get the same slight offset. I "think" it works better. Didnt know any were made that way til this post.
  19. I would think the higher price is due to the machine work to create a non-round item, more complex.
  20. well it is getting late for bass up there, but the trout fishing is coming on. With a boat I would use a small lure trolled 10' += for the trout. For bass purple colors work well at Bass Lake as well as the usual pumpkin/green stuff. If fishing under the docks maybe a Senko or drop shot.
  21. I may have to get out there this next weekend, may be a front coming so it may be still a good bite,,hopefully
  22. drop shot them here with moderate success
  23. great info and congrats...which ramp is open?
  24. I like to use the long 1/4 to 5/16 oz drop shot sinkers. I bend them in a curve and find they hang up less. I also use a lite wire hook as it seems the fish just gets itself hooked very well just on its own without much of a set from me.
  25. which ramp is being used, the close one or the far side?
