  1. the Predator is a large, heavy, wide boat..it is great for standing and carrying a load...it is not a long distance or fast yak tho due these same reasons. They are being sold used now in CA on yak forums for $700-800, like new and with extras.
  2. had an arm over the side on my first yak. It was always snagging the grass and moss. My current yak has a transducer scupper cut-out underneath. I use the Lowrance style scupper mount and it works well. I have seen a do-it-yourself replica of that...I will try to find it and post it up.
  3. there are two back styles for a kayak, some are full length in back and others are half length with only the top having floatation, so this goes to seat comfort, a bulge in your back or not the other thing is front pockets and gear in them. If the pockets are too large and you fill them up, it makes you physically thicker and may lead to a harder re-entry after falling off the yak. They snag and hold your body out further as you climb back in.
  4. not so much a story, but both of my largest, 6.2 and 7.0, when I hooked them I thot I was snagged at first till they started to pull back.
  5. I do it to fish large rock piles or rock faces in lakes when the wind blows hard enuf to constantly push you off your spot. Too much TM work and battery used to hold it otherwise.
  6. I use a thin wire wide gap style. I have and do use Owner and they are very sharp, they also make a green hook with a weed guard, but it isn't as sharp or at least is a thicker wire.
  7. I saw guys using the heavy at Clear lake last spring on beds. Put it in there with the fish guarding the bed and wait for it to happen. Just jiggle and wait.
  8. I have used beads above the hook to clatter against each other
  9. make sure you have a quick release of some sort
  10. I have not had my unit delivered yet, but I thot it was worth it so I bought it. Supposed to be just that next level of picture quality and separation of targets so they are more easily seen.
  11. Two times Ive had strikes on the first cast with them. Both times it was the lift and fall retrieve. Both times a failed to get the hook thru the lips. I came to realize with the larger thicker wire hook I needed to use a heavier rod to pinch it thru the lip.
  12. I use all of those and this year added the Elaztech lizards, man do they last and are super soft too
  13. cutting Trick worms how? Length wise or cut across?? Length wise may work better, but I don't think cross cut would work as well. The drop shot bait needs to have the limber, swimming motion to work the best, so a long thin worm, not thick and short...BUT, I too will rig a 3" or 4" senko wacky at times and it works too. Try it all...........

  15. good question. I know I lost a few when first starting out in this venture. Too light and the hook wont go thru the lips, too tight and sometimes break the line on a hook set. Smaller thin wire hook less drag than a thick wire. I err on tighter now and try to be aware of slack in the line when setting the hook so as to not snap the line which can cause it to break as well. BUT, what rule, I don't know.............
  16. I got the Lowrance Mark 4 for mine. It is B&W, has AMAZING clarity, gps and is under $200
  17. I grew up hunting and riding dirt bikes. I did fish a little as a kid, but no big deal. I felt that fishing was for guys who couldn't shoot. I retired and had a friend that was hooked on bass. He took me out n I caught a couple. I thot I could do this again. Then he took me out again and I caught more bass and my PB at the time of 3 lbs. That hooked me. I bought a boat and have almost given up hunting. Here in CAL its getting harder to find a place to hunt and fishing is everywhere.
  18. Cool.......we cant get a F&G on my local lakes to do any enforcement.
  19. Ive taken the head cover off and see no set screw on the shaft or just under the top gear area. Is it further down the shaft? I also adjusted the pedal more to try and figure this out. Everything seems to be normal and no obvious wear.
  20. Im not saying it is not the law, Im just saying not many people actually do it. Like the dozens of small alum boats with just an elec trolling motor. Most dont have hull numbers on them at the lakes. I just dont know if I would do so myself til i found a need.
  21. really.........different in all areas i guess. Here I dont know too many that have reg after a conversion
  22. not specific to this model but i have seen pieces on the net on the shortening and yak use. Have you looked at the Bassyaks web site for mounts and ideas?
  23. slowly say this in your head as you take up slack...set-the-hook, on hook you actually set the hook. Gives the fish time to really get it in their lips good.
  24. I like the Mark 4 black and white, has gps, amazing clarity, you can see your line go down and jig up n down, well under $200
