Digital fish scales
I have an XTools too and highly recommend it. I check about every other week during the season. Dead on in the three years I have had. Plus it has some really "fun" features.

What am I doing wrong ?
Something that helped me when I first started at baitcasting .... The casting part came pretty easy to me ( as far as birds nests go). My problem was I had no clue where it was going .... well that's not entirely true, I knew it wasn't going at my target ;D I became frustrated and basically decided to use my baitcasters for pitching only and use my spinning rigs when an actual "cast" was needed. At the time I wasn't real great at pitching either, but in my mind that was the one thing I couldn't do with a spinning rig. Make short stealth casts IN heavy cover with pin point accuracy. So I practiced and practiced pitching ... the front yard, back yard, in the house, and occasionally at the lake :. I found that the time that I spent learning to pitch actually helped me understand baitcasting as a whole better. IMO while pitching it's easier for a newbie to learn tip/rod control, release points, and accuracy. As soon as I got pitching down, all other casts became easier. That's my $.02

A Day off - pic heavy
If you are going to wipe your dirty hands off on a towel, it's good to do it on one that is already ruined. ;D My first choice would have to be a black and gold one though. 8-) I am still WOWed by your day

Some form of amber. My personal favorite is Costo Del Mar's Vermillion. It's a tad darker shade of amber.

Let's Talk Advantage's/Disadvantage's ...
Fishability is my #1 factor I will not fish a line that is a PITA is manage just because it's extra strong, invisible, tough, etc. It has to have some of those qualities though. Right now I have Gamma Copolymer on all of my reels (various line sizes for various applications) except one. That one has braid and I use it for c-rigging and fishing in heavy cover.

Golf
My other addiction. Used to play just about everyday in the summer when I worked at a golf course through late high school and early college. Then I moved away to college and didn't pick up a club for 3 years. Last year I slowly started picking it up again, and by the end of the year it was a full blown addiction again. Why are all these hobbies so expensive!!! :-[

Cost of your fishing trips ???
The main lake I fish is about 50 miles from my front door. Last year I put a hitch on my 4cyl Honda Accord to combat the rising gas prices. Before I would just borrow my dad's 8 cyl Trailblazer. So before with my dad's SUV it would cost me about $20 a trip. Now with my car I am down under $10 a trip. Putting the hitch on my car paid for itself with in the first couple months. I fish out of a pond hopper type boat so my only means of propulsion is a trolling motor. = no $$ spent on gas I am liking that more and more everyday. The more and more I think about it, a big fiberglass gas powered bass boat just might not be for me. I just don't need it for 99% of the fishing I do. Most of the lakes I fish or either no wake or electric only and all of them are less than 1000 acres. I thought that with in the year I would be in the market for a bass boat. Now I think if I get anything I will look for an older bass boat with no outboard, gut it, and make my own all electric boat.
