  1. My buddy just had that happen a couple weeks ago. He caught a pickeral on a crank and as he was unhooking it , it thrashed about and hooked him in the finger. It went all the way through so I cut the barb and yanked it out for him. We fished the rest of the evening . I did make a small first-aid kit for in my boat now.
  2. I liked the Norman speed clips at first , but had too much trouble with lures coming off. I switched to fast lock design with no issues. The one downfall with using snaps or clips is that you don't retie your knot as much or at least I don't ( out of laziness I guess)
  3. I've got one of the old blue color Clunn reels I use for crankbaits, its a decent reel and has held up well to 3 years of cranking with it. If the price is right I would buy another
  4. Thats a great action, I'm sure he'll love it. I fish the Susquehanna all the time and have a 6'8" MXF in another series that I use to fish spider grubs.
  5. My daughter and I are going out later today. She asked me to take her fishing on Fathers day and I told her gladly, I'll wake you at 5am. Shes 14 and didn't think that was too funny. I guess it'll be an afternoon trip. I can't wait .
  6. One of my fishing friends just had it happen two weeks ago on my boat. He caught a pickeral on a crank and as he was trying to unhook it , it thrashed around and hooked the back of one of his fingers. The hook went all the way thru so we just cut the barb end off and pushed it back through. It didn't ruin our day of fishing but the next day I assembled a small first aid kit to keep in the boat. I didn't even have a bandaid for him.

  8. The fireline crystal was white also but I found it stained after using it awhile, dulling it somewhat
  9. I had a Sea-Nymph 14R that had a layout very similar to the last photo. The small deck on the front was hinged and added some storage space. I ended up taking the pedastal seat off in the front and just mounted the seat low. It was a little tipsy when standing on the deck but I never felt it was unsafe. I usaually fished from the rear anyway because I never could come up with a way to mount a bow mount troller that suited me.
  10. It doesn't reduce line twist it just doesn't twist it when putting it on the spool in the first place, I guess it doesn't put it on any tighter but it sure is alot easier to keep a good amount of tension on the line without having to use books or whatever.
  11. Try drifting waxworms, use just enough splitshot to keep the bait ticking off the bottom as it drifts
  12. I've used a spooling station at a retail tackle shop for about 25 years and I believe it is the best way to spool line on a reel. With a spinning reel the spool is removed and the line is put on straight from the bulk spool to the reel spool , it does not twist going on. Also the line can be spooled tight and even . ( I do see the point about shimming though) With a baitcaster the machine just makes it quicker. By the way it the line starts to stack to one side you hold the line to the opposite side for a few spool revolutions till it straightens back up.
  13. I use fireline for spinning applications, mono for cranking and flouro for everything else
  14. Caught 8 on Rose Valley yesterday morning, most all on plastics t-rigged. Ever since they switched to 15 inch limit it seems everything I catch there is around 13 to 14 inches. Oh well its not like I keep them anyway it just seems they're all the same size class. Still a nice morning.
  15. I used to use old window weights to slow drift on the river, I could add or remove depending on how swift the current was. This setup was a little awkward but good for its use. Coffee can is probably the way to go for just holding in one spot.
  16. One of my buddies uses light and urtralight gear tube fishing for smallies in the Susquehanna and I watch him lose fish after fish because he can't get a good hookset. I just laugh and keep reeling them in.
  17. Unweighted flukes are probably the lightest I go, less than that calls for my spinning gear.
  18. I know that the LBT models had split grips since 2009, but now sure exactly when they switched. I have the 76MHMF rod but in the extreme I love the rod for pitching jigs but I also use it alot for carolina rigging. The extreme is not telescoping however . I also have the 70MF (teaser) in the extreme, this is my go to plastics rod , I bet I use this rod more than other I have . Buy the rods and fish with them a little, at the price they are offered you can get rid of them if you don't like them. You may become a fan of St Croix rods , I know thats pretty much all I fish with anymore. Just an opinion though.
  19. I agree with skunked, I think they are very good rods. I bought my girlfriend a MBS69MLXF and its a great rod at the price. St.Croixs actions are the same across all the blanks I've used. They may differ some from some other manufactures but I think alot of rods do. You'll get alot of advice on whats the best , just check some different rods and go with what you like. St. Croix is a good company thats been building rods for a while now and they have good customer service, something I also weigh when purchasing.
  20. Use Trilene XL and get it somewhere where they have a linewinding machine. Its the best way to put line on a spinning reel because the spool is removed and the line wound on straight .
  21. Bomber B Citrus Shad
  22. Did you come up with that on 4:20 thats out there man!
  23. There are outriggers that can be bought or even made that make a canoe very stable outrigger link
  24. Glad to see there was conditions worse than where I was! Well at least we can go bass fishing now northern
  25. palomar for most applications and eugene bend for lures with trebles
