Is the Hotmaps Platinum worth the extra $50 over the premium?

Hey Guys, I recently bought my first boat, an old Nitro 180TF, and am looking to upgrade the electronics.I have the opportunity to buy a new Lowrance unit for a pretty hefty discount through a buddy of mine, and am looking at the Elite 7 CHIRP Gold. Does anyone out there have any experience with this technology? I've done a little research but am looking for real world stuff. I know its kind of new. I'm tied to Lowrance due to the discount, so I'm not looking at any other brands. Thanks.

Have any of you guys tried this line? Bought a 2100 yd spool at my local shop last winter when they had it highly discounted. Haven't tried it yet and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

Ice out, like everyone else. This Friday me and a buddy are gonna fish Lake Trout at sunrise and then bass afterwards. Got a local spot where you can catch 15 to 20 Lakers in an hour or so, but they shut down as soon as the sun gets high. Then we go bass fishing.

Have any of you guys had any hands on experience with one of these reels? Looks like a sweet reel, but I've never used any Okuma products so I am unfamiliar with them.

Yea I've been lookin at them, gonna have to give them a try. I like the Visions and I still have 3, but boy that hurt. Wouldn't have minded so much if it was a decent fish, but it was just a dink!!!

Frogs can be really frustrating, but they are fun. I still have nightmares about a hit I had on a frog during a fishing trip last year. He clobbered my frog so hard it was like someone threw a bowling ball into the water. I set the hook, felt the weight, then he(or she) dove down into the slop and came unbuttoned. I said some things I was not proud of, but I'll remember that for a long time.

Only one way to find out! Sounds like you better have heavy line.

So I'm fishing with a buddy of mine yesterday, and we're working our way down the shoreline casting to the docks with jerkbaits. I had recently switched colors and was on a 9 fish in a row roll when I hooked a smallie of about a pound and a half. I lifted him into the boat and saw that he was hooked by the front hook of my bait, and the rear hook was around my line.as I reached to grab him he shook, flipped, and dropped into the drink with my brand new Megabass Vision 110 still in his mouth. i don't know if the hook cut my line or what, but I really thought I was gonna cry like a little girl. It wasn't even a big fish!!! My buddy just looked at me and said " i ain't even gonna bust your chops about it cause that sucks". I knew when I bought them it would happen sooner or later, but it still hurt!!!

Anybody ever use a knot called the Davy's or Davy knot?

If your talking about right now, I'd say shallow around docks and Islands. Both LM and SM bass are getting ready to spawn soon, if they aren't already. Any of the southern bays are good,(Dunhams,Katskill,Harris,) around the docks and in 1-8 ft of water. Try suspending jerkbaits.

can't say I've ever thrown one, per say, but i have tossed one down in anger a few times. That was before I started buying higher end stuff! On the other hand, I have hooted and hollered a few times when i got the big one!!!

When it was on, I actually like Mark Zona's show. He seemed to mix it up a lot, didn't fish private waters(at least not all the time)and I think he's got a pretty good on air personality.

I've been using the Ultra soft for a couple of years now and think its great. Just bought a 6lb spool last week for one of my Stradics. I'm kinda surprised no one brought this up, but its my experience that there are a lot of factors that contribute to line twist, few of which actually have to do with the line itself. did you spool it right? What types of baits are you using? Tubes, drop shotting, in-line spinners, spoons and other presentations are notorious for twisting line. Do you close your bail by hand or crank the handle to close it.That will cause some line twist.
