Inflatable PFD, auto or manual?
My wife bought me the Auto / Manual and I wear when I am fishing from my kayak and from my bass boat. As others have said Auto is important.

Triton TX17 and Crestliner VT17 Package Width on Trailer Clarity
When we moved to our current home I planned on putting my Marsh Hawk 165 in the single bay but not comfortable with that so I put it on the double door side and wife's Jeep Patriot in the single bay. It was same problem just a couple inches to spare. The other thing you could do back in double side and push boat by hand over to the single side.

Show your ride...
In August I sold my 16 year old Old Town Loon 138 and bought a new Old Town Loon 126. It is lighter, tracks better and very stable. Rigged it with 3 rod holders, anchor trolly, and depth finder.

motorguide repair
I had my Motorguide Brute 52 repaired awhile back considering what it ended up costing I should have replaced it. You can try fixing it yourself nothing to lose if they don't even want to try to fix it,

You didn't get hurt at that price! Priced motors lately?

Got my Boat Buckles installed
That setup will save stress on your hull. I had a 14 foot aluminum deep V and the strap went across the boat like your original set up. When I tore the wood floor out to replace it i found stress cracks in the ribs from the strap pulling the sides in when it was tightened down. I am sure it was from the strap because none of the other ribs were damaged.

Pedal drive kayaks
I like the concept but most of them are $2500 plus, kind of pricey for a plastic boat. And they weigh over 100 lbs so they can be difficult to load and unload for one person.

Decisons Decsions
In my opinion a kayak is probably a little more versatile, easier to handle and car top by yourself. This is something you have to decide what is right for you.

Trolling Motor Battery
I just paid $86.83 for the Walmart Everstart 29DC for $99 you can get the one marked Everstart MAXX 29DC the only difference is the MAXX has a 2 year warranty and the other a 1 year warranty. If you do buy one grab one with the freshest build date.

Buying used kayaks---documentation?
If no docs with the used boat get a bill of sale from the previous owner. Find the serial number on the boat and make sure it is listed in the bill of sale.

Random noises out on the water
We were fishing Deer Lake near Marquette Mi and heard what sounded like a cat meowing. Then a LARGE Mountain Lion appeared on the shore in front of us and it wasn't making meowing sounds anymore it was more like growls. I didn't fumble around looking for my camera I just got us away from the shore as fast as I could.

What's a good price for a gently used Old Town Predator XL Kayak
I haven't seen new ones discounted at all so that helps him with resale value so my guess is it is worth 60 to 70 percent of retail since seems to be like new. Doesn't cost you anything to make an offer maybe he needs the money.

Missouri Fishing Question
If you want to go a little further there are 2 lakes in Bowling Green MO. One of them, West Lake, you have to drag your yak up the side of the dam to get on the water. This lake gets very little pressure and fishing is usually good. The other has a boat ramp and fishing dock.

Be Safe!
I would like to remind people about the importance of letting someone know where your going when you head out on the water. Last week I had a misadventure that could have gone badly. The water was too low to take the kayak from Indian Camp Creek to the confluence of Big Creek so I wore chest waders and head down towards Big Creek. The water got deeper in spots at the confluence. While walking in water less than a foot and on the edge of deeper water my right foot sank in the sand up to my knee and my left leg sank maybe 1/2 as much. Unable to pull either leg out. There was too much pressure to just pull my feet out of the waders. I tried digging the sand out from my right leg but it filled as fast as i could dig with my hands. Worked on the left leg and was able to get it free. After a couple hours help arrived and was rescued. I had my cell phone so I was able to call for help, if I didn't have my cell phone or was out of range it might have been some time before help arrived especially if I didn't let anyone know where I was going.

Are Force motor really that bad?
I had a Force 15 hp on a early or mid 80's Spectrum deep V for 15 years and never had a single problem. Spectrum was another brand that was bad mouthed and I never even had any leaky rivets on the old boat. No brand is perfect and sometimes if you pay more you get more other times all you do is pay more. I have a 2001 Fisher Hawk 165 Deep V with a 2002 50 HP Mercury and it has been trouble free and after a day of fishing not a drop of water comes out of the hull after pulling the drain plug. s

Looking to buy an aluminum bass boat
If the tracker has wood floors and the Ranger has aluminum floors I would go with the Ranger. Also compare the gauge of aluminum used for the hull.
-
Boat Carpet
If I replaced the carpet in my boat I would use a vinyl product for the floor around the console area and maybe even the decks. Easy to clean just rinse off and your done. I had a boat that I replaced the wood floor and put new black carpet because I thought it looked good. Big mistake black carpet got really hot in the summer sun!

Anyone own a boat that has been pretty much trouble-free?
My 2001 Fisher Marine Marsh Hawk 165 with 2002 50 HP Mercury (carbs not fuel injected) has been very trouble free. Replaced the bow mount trolling motor once but only to upgrade a bit. Replaced the bunks on the trailer no other repairs.

towing with a H3
Instead of guessing take the trailer and go to a weigh station at a farmers co- op and see what the actual weight of the trailer is.

Do you have a trolling motor on your kayak?
I prefer to paddle. Keeping it simple works for me and paddling is good exercise. Most states if you put a motor on a kayak you have to register it. I have a bass boat but spend more time fishing out of the kayak.
