  1. I would like to get some ideas, please post pictures of bass jigs you have tied.

I was tying some hair jigs and found a small spinner bait that was missing the skirt so I decided to replace the skirt with hair. Don't know if it will work but it was worth a try.
  3. Nice, all you need is spring to get here!
  4. Great job! Did you have to replace much wood? I would let you re-carpet my boat next winter. Let me know where to drop it off
  5. You got a bargain the new 9.9 would be $2k alone.
  6. Looks like it is in great shape, and given the price of gas it won't clean out your wallet.
  7. Aluminum is the way to go. There are some good used aluminum boats out there in the 5k to 6k range. I have a 2001 Fisher Marine Marsh Hawk 165 with 50 HP Mercury, all welded hull, aluminum floors, decent storage. If you get lucky you may find one used in your price range. I bought the boat new in 2002 and planning on it lasting a very long time and giving it to my grandson when I am done with it. Fits in the garage goes everywhere I want to go and easy on gas. This boat handles rough water very well. I fish small electric only lakes, Mississippi River, Lake of the Ozarks, Mark Twain to occasional trips to Lake Superior (ok on calm days).
  8. I have rod holders on my big boat and kayaks. I bought Attwood Fishing Rod Holder extensions but the rod holders did not want to seat properly in the extensions. They did not want to go down far enough to lock in position. It seems the Attwood extensions have a more tappered hole. Use sand paper or a grinder to reduce the size of the collar on the end of the rod holders a little bit and your problem is solved. They still work fins on the original base mounts.
  9. I think a Whaler is the only boat I would consider if I won the lottery to replace my current boat. I would want a center console.
  10. I bought my current boat after both my kids got through college. Before that I had a 14 foot with a 15 hp. Kind of miss the old boat. I saved for a long time so I could pay cash, Now that I am retired no way I would want to take on boat payments. With the price of gas I find myself using my Loon 138 kayak to fish out of in close by water.
  11. No problem, just expressing how happy I am with my boat. You said you were waiting a few years to buy a boat but now is the time to get great deals on used boats because of the economy. These days you can spend as little as $2500 and get a great boat.
  12. No plans in replacing my boat anytime soon, it is in very good condition and there aren't many hours on the Mercury. No wood in the boat to rot out should last a very long time.Hope to keep it long enough to give to my grandson.
  13. Anyone rigged a Loon 138 for fishing? I would like to what others have done to rig thier Loon 138 or similiar kayak for fishing. I added the anchor pully and one rod holder behind the cockpit so far. I have a couple of old fish finders so may add one but not sure where or how I want to locate it.
  14. Option 1 This may not work in your situation but If you have a pickup truck you can get a bed extender at Harbor Freight that hooks into you 2" trail hitch. I also added the magnetic tail lights (secured with zip ties) to the unit. I haul my Loon 138, almost 14 foot in a short bed quad cab truck. Comes in handy hauling wood and drywall also. Option 2 I had a Diesel Jeep Liberty before the truck and it was getting hard to get the big yak on the roof racks. If I didn't switch to a truck I would have bought a folding 8 foot trailer or the cheaper 4x4 trailer and extended the tongue. A trailer would have come in handy for other things so might be a good investment.
  15. I have a 2001 Fisher Marsh Hawk 165 Deep V with a 2002 50 hp Mercury, 30 lb thrust transom mount trolling motor and 54lb Motorguide bow mount. Upgraded console fishfinder to a Lowrance Elite 4x and have an Eagle FishEasy on the bow. Soon to be a Fishmark 320. It is laid out like a bass boat front and rear casting platforms. This model was only produced in 2001 and 2002 Photo is from the day I picked up the boat in 2002. .
  16. My OEM Lowrance X3 on the console of my Fisher Marine Marsh Hawk 165 broke so I bought a Lowrance Elite 4X to replace it. Then I got a discontinued new in the box Eagle Fishmark 320 for a price I couldn't pass up and was going to use it replace my Eagle Fish Easy that is on the bow. Would the Fishmark 320 be a better choice for the console and the Lowrance Elite 4X for the bow? Specs and photos: http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder/Elite4x-en-us.aspx http://www.eaglenav.com/en/Products/Fishfinders/FishMark-320/ Thanks in advance for your reply Kent
  17. Thanks for the reply, don't know why I didn't see it sooner.
  18. Not sure but if you glued carpet to them I suspect it wouldn't be an issue as the boat isn't touching the wood
  19. Thanks! I will give that a try. Kent
  20. Know of any creeks rivers around St. Charles County, Lincoln County or Warren County MO with Small Mouth?
  21. My Motor Guide Brute 54Bow mount intermittently has the 4 speed quit working, 1,2 &3 act like ther are in 1 or slowest and 5 still works. Took it in to the shop but didn't for fail for them. I have re-terminated the boat wiring at the battery end. , replaced the switch and cleaned the brushes and the commutator. It ran 45 minutes in a trash can no problems. Went out to the lake and tried it and it failed after 15 minutes. After pulling the motor in and out of the water a couple times it started working again. Can't say I trust it very far. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance for any advice! Kent
