  1. The guy was much much better than I expected. He's gotten better over the last few years. I actually took lunker off a bed that he let me have. It helped that he slayed them early. I think he felt bad; but I kept cool and ended up just .17 ounces behind his weight in the end.
  2. Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes.
  3. That club sounds like a good club. It is what it is for now. Would it be fair to allow 10 or so pitches to a bed before the non boater can start tossin in (if the boat is positioned where it is possible for the NB to cast to that bed)? If he doesn't like me casting in, he could back boat me for the rest of the day - that would stink.
  4. Boater is of the mindset that non-boaters are along for the ride. If you want more, go get your own boat.
  5. Simple club tourney best 5 smb or LMB over 12. Boaters and non boaters compete against each other ( in other words no separate divisions for boaters and non boaters. There is only 12 of us total in the club - 8 boaters 4 non boaters.
  6. Id like to hear what you guys (boaters and non-boaters) have to say about bed fishing in a tournament. How many attempts on a bed does the boater get before the non-boater can toss in there? I understand the boater has top priority over which beds and he could position the boat so the non-boater can not cast to it. But if he does not position the boat correctly and the non-boater has an open shot at the bed can he toss to it? Or is the non-boater forced to throw to other beds or switch the entire pattern by throwing to what ever is available until the boater sticks his fish?
  7. Cus72m landed a 5lb largie this past weekend on the grub....thx for all the help
  8. If you had a choice between the DX72MF drop shot extra fast and the 72MF for both drop shotting and grubs/ hair jigs (and other very light jigs) what would it be? I have narrowed it down to those two rods . I want to improve my grubbin / hair jiggin desperately this spring
  9. it's that time of year in the north. I thought it would get plenty of responses. Thanks guys for the replies
  10. What type of action and power for these techniques? Are they the same as your drop shot rod? I'd like to get a drop shot rod that can double as my grub / hair jig rod... I love my Cumara Shakeyhead setup and was looking at a Cumara... Cus72m or cusdx72m. $ 160 or less. If you could help me choose between the two, I'm more concerned with optimal length speed and power than specific rods. If I'm way off, im open to other suggestions. Thx
  11. Which of these is lightest? I like a light weight rod... St Croix TBS68MXF Tournament wacky (3.5 is the weight for this rod) Loomis BSR852 mossyback Dobyns 703SF champion or Dobyns 683SF champion Powell Wacky 6103-MEF
  12. yeah saw that on the other site.... they the only rod you sell? If those prices were still out there and they used strong cardboard tubes instead of flimsy triangular cardboard, I might be interested...
  13. Don't see those rods around much.... But they are cheaper. Around the price range the the Powell wacky. So many good rods, how do you choose? TW doesn't carry fenwick?
  14. That is what I used to use.... Good rod....looking to step it up
  15. I currently have the old SHIMANO compre With the finger slot. And I thought to myself, I spend most my time with spinning gear in my hand yet all my good rods and reels are BAITCASTING. I like the rod but it's a 6'6 MHF which most rod manufacturers agree is not good power action for this technique ( generally speaking)
  16. So medium power should get it done .... If I do go with a shorter rod length like 6'6 or 6'8 would it make more sense to compensate with an extra fast tip or will a fast tip be better on a shorter rod?
  17. I want one rod for weightless stickbaits ( wacky rigged or texposed ). It needs to be versatile enough to skip under docks or cast far in clear water conditions. I have been using 6'6 MHF but maybe I should be changing rod length or action... I really like my cus-68m Cumara for shaky head and I'm a fan of my st CROIX tournament casting rods- their wacky style (TBS68XMF) seems like a good choice but wanted to ask around for specific rod suggestions or favorite rod lengths or actions for this technique specific presentation. Only 1 rod for this- I'm a co-angler.
  18. got a couple stradics (FI) at cabelas 119 locally. let's hope they don't bind. I'll be taking good care of them. DVT how many drops of oil am I putting in the maintenance port and how often? I know you're not a fan, but I plan on sending some reels your way this winter.
  19. Anyone try the lews spinning reel with the larger spool that's meant to cut back on line twist?
  20. the older daiwa advantage is a heavier reel, right? I looked at them when they went on sale at TW. However, for the same price I could try the new and improved exceller's that might have fixed the weak bail springs (they better have fixed something with the price increase on the new excellers). I figure to get one of these reels to use the remainder of the season and hopefully it will help me make a decision for next year.
  21. My abu revo premier baitcaster drag gave out during my last outing, not going back to them but I've never tried their spinning reels. I have to admit that the two of the three symetres that gave me trouble were bought at a discount (one from the fleamarket here that gave out on me VERY quickly and one from the bargain cave at cabelas). I have a c14 stradic 2500 that I LOVE, but I don't have the money to buy 2 or 3 more of them. The regular stradic is interesting as I can get it for 140 (FI not FJ). I might give shimano one last chance because i like their Line Propulsion Management system and propulsion spool lip. I have a floog president supreme where the gears are smooth but I don't like how the line comes off the spool (lot more wind knots and/or line twist)
  22. check the flea market board come winter time... they might be there!! anyone try the new exceler's?
  23. I think I'm done with Shimano Symetres. I have 3 of them. Out on the water, the gears have "frozen" on me numerous times. I've tried to maintain these reels myself, and it's a pain. So I need new reels. I like getting all the same reels, so I can use extra spools with different line test or line type on any of my set ups. I use 8lb pline ultimate FC nearly 90 percent of the time. I don't throw braid too often on my spinning set ups b/c of how often I get hung up on docks, rock walls, etc..... Features I currently think are important to me: - cost - around 100 (+ or -) - extra spool - comes in handy if you get a nasty wind knot or whatever in a tourney OR run low on line (let's just say I break off VERY often) and need to switch it out fast - relatively light (I know this is where cost goes up) - good gears - no freezing up - in-season easy maintenance (I love the shimano portal for some drops of oil - but it doesn't seem to work for me when it's freezing up later in the week) - castability (or line coming off the spool smoothly - shimano's new spool lip is nice - but again I'm not liking the gears in the symetre) - 2500 - I think I like this size the best - not too heavy - not too small of a spool where line twist becomes more of a problem. Am I missing anything else important? With these features in mind, what's another good reel out there?
  24. Costa 580 which lens ? Green or silver? Are those better than the pair of wiley x p17 amber green mirror I dropped in the lake? I fish in CT and need a new pair ...I liked my wiley x lenses but I might want to uprade to costa 580s - green or silver lenses. Thanks for the quick input.
