  1. Anyone use a straight shank hook and Snell knot for flipping a pit boss? If so, does it work well that way? I realize it is designed for a Texas rig, just wondering if anyone has tried it. I used the straight shank/Snell combo for most flipping, but not for the Boss. I am considering trying it out, though.
  2. Really? This is not that big of a deal. How do you eat when you are out fishing after handling fish? I mean, you do touch your food after that, right? Same thing.
  3. After seeing this, I definitely need to get a fish mounted! That is ridiculous!
  4. Thanks guys! And thanks for taking the time to check it out. Working on videos keep my occupied after work during the week, haha.
  5. We usually launch out of the state ramp since all the tournaments are run out of there and its the only free one. I've mostly fished the very south end of the lake this year so I know where most of the grass is down there (there is grass at the north end in different spots as well, though). There are many spots. I haven't fished the north end for more than an hour total this year. It probably costs as much to make the run down the lake as it does to launch out of a pay ramp, but we like the run and in tournaments we have to make that run. If you only plan on fishing the south end it might be more cost effective to just pay and launch down there at a different ramp. Admittedly, I haven't been there in 2 weeks so I'm not sure if anything has changed. Look for grass! It is all over the place around the shores now that the water is drawn down. Sometimes they are in the grass sometimes they are a little deeper outside the grass. That's the stuff I prefer to fish. Other guys do very well there fishing exclusively for smallmouth in the steeper/rockier areas so I'm sure that could work, too.
  6. It can get tough there in the middle of the day when the boat traffic is insane and the sun is bright. There is a grass line all around the lake that the water has finally come down to as they have drawn it down all summer. Stay around the outer edges of that grass line and you should be able to do well for at least a few hours each day. The largemouth have been down in the grass lately so you might consider fishing deep in it.
  7. BOOYAH QUAD SHAD .... enough said
  8. The bigger lakes have stayed good for power fishing this year with the overall cooler temperatures. Last week Wallenpaupack was only 67-71 degrees and you could light the place up flipping grass for largemouth on the south end. The smaller lakes: stick to grass areas and find breaks (where a stream bed was, or for stumps/rocks/logs). If you're going to flip/pitch be really thorough. I tend to power fish early in the morning and see where I get a few bites at and then go pick those places apart as the day goes on.
  9. It is not common that I agree with Lund on everything, but I agree with Lund on everything. Also, save receipts for everything you spend related to bass fishing. I'm fairly sure you will have a LOT of write-offs as a business expense since paying for travel, entry fees, and equipment all lead to that income.
  10. Thanks! Took too many hours to make that video, haha. I had 25 hours of footage to cut down.
  11. We've had a pretty ridiculous run the last few weeks! Got second and lunker in back to back tournaments at Lake Wallenpaupack and then first and lunker at Promised Land State Park. I must say, it has been a great few weeks. I took almost 30 hours of footage and made a 3+ minute highlight video out of it. Here it is! Check it out if you have a few minutes.
  12. I love drop shotting flukes of all sizes. And dreamshots!
  13. I throw the Z-Man chatterbaits. Nothing specifically more amazing about them; it is just my choice. Color always depends on water clarity and forage but I usually prefer some kind of green that looks like a perch/bluegill. My favorite trailers are Optimum Double Diamond swim baits BY FAR.
  14. Sunscreen is gross, I just cover up completely.
  15. If you go back and look at the comments on the Facebook post, this one guy pried a whole bunch of info out of the person who posted the picture and then went and called any places the guy told him they had it checked, and none of the places knew anything about it. It is obviously fake. This is almost as bad as the Joseph Zajko thing I posted a few years back when he kept claiming he had caught a whole bunch of 7+ lb smallies in a small PA reservoir but had no pictures and no witnesses.
  16. 7' MH heavy with 20 lb copolymer mono is what I usually throw. I have been using Optimum Double Diamond swimbaits as trailers recently and they are really awesome.
  17. Not much you can do. If you get there first and he comes in closer than rules allow be sure to record said action with a nice camera phone and have him disqualified at the weigh in. Find some backup spots in case he gets there first. Or do what Lund suggested in #4! haha
  18. I agree that the rules should not, and should never be, relaxed for any one specific group, but they are horribly bad regulations to begin with. The Wisconsin DNR's logic during that time was that the smallmouth were "a different strain" in Sturgeon Bay. The archaic rules in the north need to go (like the no cull rule in Minnesota, various pros said they shouldn't go to places like that either until they change their silly rules). All over the country people go on hour+ runs (or more) with fish in the livewell and those fisheries are doing just fine! That's why they have live release boats and whatnot.
  19. That is a beast!
  20. See you there! It is a lot of fun. This will be my third time doing this.
  21. 4 lb 13 oz in October 2010, caught at Beltzville State Park, PA. Caught on a white spinnerbait in 3 feet of water during a big rain storm. Don't mind the dinky striper in the picture.
  22. That's incredibly long. My night tournaments are 10 pm - 6 am.
  23. Newest video! A short night fishing video from Lake Wallenpaupack!
  24. Of course you're allowed to watch! The weigh-ins are free to come to. The tournament is Aug 7-10. The launch and weigh ins are on the Philadelphia side. I would have to look at my sheet to tell you exactly where it is. The geniuses on the Bassmaster website put the times of the weigh-ins in the "attend" section and then never tell you what launch they are at or where they are at.
  25. Sucks for that alcoholic, I hope he got help. It takes many years of alcoholism to get to the point where your liver is basically non-functioning. As for the other guy, you could get a DUI for him having an open container in your vehicle even if you blow a 0.0 in certain states, and all states have at least some kind of open container violation, I wouldn't keep doing that.
