  1. Thats awesome man. I really need to get down that way, I've wanted to catch a peacock from the first one ive seen
  2. Ive never felt comfortable with braid and heavy expensive baits, so I dont fish it. With that said, alot of folks use 80 and dont have any problems. NGaHB
  3. I use a 300 size with 25# and really like it. If you dont respool often then its a bad way to go, but respooling every few trips it works out. a 200 is going to be pretty small, but with the small baits and 17# line, you aught to have no problem. Now if you go with braid then you wont have a problem at all. I really like the feel of round reels, but low-pros are preferred by most. NGaHB
  4. Sounds like an awesome swimbait reel NGaHB
  5. Alot of great replies already, but I'll throw my hat in on it too. I'd go for some floating rapalas, they can be swam alittle below the surface, twitched on top, however they feel like fishing it. Smaller ones will pull in bass as well as bream. NGaHB
  6. Both have their applications, and between the two I would say you have the best trophy bass lures around. There are times when a swimbait will get bit often, and there are times a jig will too. To say one is good for _____ and the other is good for ______ I think is over simplifying it. I'm a swimbait fiend, so Im going to say go swimbaits If you want to go for numbers as well as big fish then I would say go ahead and shoot for ~6" baits. You can get by with a flippin stick for alot of diff 6" baits. I prefer to throw 6" hudds and some of my gill baits on a flippin stick as compared to a SB rod. I wouldn't go for the 4" shad as they arn't that well made from my experience. Dont be afraid of throwing 6" baits, youll catch alot more >6" bass thank you would ever imagine. NGaHB
  7. my cheap-o bourbon is Old Crow, not as sweet as Evan, and cheaper than bottled pee. Tho its not technically a bourbon, I'm a big fan of Stranahans. It's pricey, but it's got a totally distinct flavor. NGaHB
  8. Thats awesome man, those bridge piers look fishy. Is that on a river?
  9. The super moon did well by me this morning. I caught 9 in about 15 min with the buzz bait. Well see how it goes in trophy bass country, headed that way in about 3 hours NGaHB
  10. If your looking for a good book I can't say enough good about In Pursuit Of Giant Bass. I've read through that book 5 or 6 times. NGaHB
  11. Cool to hear about the decoys, I've been thinking about getting a few for a while NGaHB
  12. try fishing the deepest water you can, A jig fished slow might just pull the big ones out NGaHB
  13. Dont think swimbaits limit you to a few bites, I got 20 fish in 2 hours on the weedless hudd this day, none over 2# NGaHB
  14. I felt the same way, I just got a LH baitcaster and went with it. I couldnt get use to the switching hands thing, I also like setting the hook with my strong arm. To each his own. NGaHB
  15. I use 25# CXX, which is either mono or co poly, alot of guys use Big Game. As far as spinning reels to, Fish Chris aught to be able to give you an opinion on that. He's the only person Ive seen using spinning gear with big swimbaits, but it obviously works! NGaHB
  16. Ive never used them, so I dont know anything about them. As far as rods and reels go cardiffs in 300 or 400 size are hard to beat for the money. Also might want to look into Okuma Big Bait rods. If you go used you can get the rod and reel for around 20o, or new for around 150 NGaHB
  17. I looked at this bed for about 15 min, gave a half hearted attempt at pulling her off. I hate the spawn
  18. Dont forget hotdogs and vienna sausages NGaHB
  19. :surprised: :surprised:
  20. That fish looks awesome! I really like the color. Congrats to the lady. NGaHB
  21. Ive got 2 over 8 and then several over 5 in diffrent water. The honey hole is really two places, so the other big ones are split between the two. NGaHB
  22. Very cool man, I've read that there is some pretty good bass fishin over your way NGaHB
  23. I doubt it is over 50 in all, but im fishin for those big bites. 12 over 5# 6 over 8# 3 over 10# NGaBH
  24. I was sitting chuckling at that myself. Looks like everyone had a great time. I've enjoyed reading about it from behind the keyboard. NGaHB
