Which Reel?
100% correct, thanks and have a good one. just like two months ago i bought both my local dicks stores out of micro guide carrot sticks(not the wild models the models that retail at 150) as they had them for 89.97 and 75% off that i bought a total of 64 rods and have sold everyone of them in two weeks at 100 to 115 each. i got a great deal and the people that wanted to use them still saved about a 1\3rd. if theres something wrong with buying deals to make people a good deal and make a few bucks doing so then 95% of people are wrong.

Project Phase One
i love my Zillion PEs i have two one in the display and one in use, i love the faster level wind so i have changed a few Zillions with it, if you own a zillion and fish braid on it order those parts and swap it out it makes a big difference. imho the hottest zillion made was the HLC i have 4 of them only use two once you behold that reel and a Deps zillion you are truly in the dark side.

seems like you are going off psi tests and not use, i use Toray and have for years however i fish mainly shooter now because its a better line. you saying its more stretchy then Toray PP or tatsu well i havent fished it in less the 15 so i cant speak for the lighter stuff but the heavier lines have less stretch then any other premium fc ive ever fished and ive fished most of it... if you are going by a tt test and not use then please dont talk over someone with years of use of an item.

Econoscale
You can get you a Certified Spring scale for about 30-40 bucks if you look around. I use one that is IGFA cert. its a 50LB spring scale that is calibrated and like I said IGFA Cert. I paid about 75 bucks for it.. BPS has one or used to have it atleast for about 30 bucks for a 15LB scale and 40 for a 30lb scale. look for it and read and it will say its a IGFA Cert scale. I know its not a gripper but if you want to know the true weights of your fish thats the way to go and a Spring scale will ALWAYS be more accurate then a Digi scale.

Upgrade is a awesome line, very sensitive and abrasion resistant... but Shooter is almost a clear version of braid that is VERY abrasion resistant... I have bent open 4/0 EWG owner hooks with 40-50 feet of line out on real hard hook sets with it... its the most sensitive and least stretch FC ive ever fished.

Which Reel?

It sucked they didnt have Shooter in that deal but I still bought me a bunch of spools of Sniper, Im sure thats what you went with? if so you will fall in love with it... Thats the smoothest best handling softest FC you will ever fish I mean it handles better then most Monos and thats no kidding it really is that soft and supple. Keep in mind tho its not going to fight abrasion as good as the harder FC's but its a pretty sensitive line and Stretch is pretty low (Still not as low stretch or sensitive is harder lines like Shooter but still very good overall and for how it handles) and IMHO is the best Spinning FC on the market.. its also IMHO the best cranking line out there as well unless you are around lots of timber.. It puts Berkley 100% to shame in each and every way.

Rod Suggestion While On A Budget
Academy has a rod its a H2O Ethos or something like that, its Blue blank and split cork grip at 50ish bucks with Fuji ACS seat and Alconite guides.. I played with one looking for some loaner sticks for boat guests as one to many of my old Loaner sticks got broke (Two Loomis IMX Sticks and 1 Croix LTB as you can see my guests get nice gear to use) in a month while taking guests on guided trips because of Dummys high sticking and setting REALLY hard on hangups lol so anyhow I didnt buy any but I was wowed at how nice those sticks feel for the money. If you have one in your area I would go take a good look at them they feel like a nice stick, First thing I noticed was how crisp they felt and very very light in weight and balanced very well with a Daiwa TD-A 153 HSTA on it (I asked them to let me see one they had behind the counter because thats the reels I provide on guided trips and they balanced at about 1 1/2in in front of reel thats very very good for any split grip stick yet less one at 50 bucks.so any 8oz or so reel will balance well and that was on a 7 foot Heavy stick) Im going back in a few days and I will pick up 6-7 of them I would have bought them that day but they didnt have my tax exempt paper work on file at that store so I left without them and will pick them up the next time im there. The 7 foot Heavy seemed like it would make a really nice low budget Buzz Toad stick and worms and jigs as well even a Frog rod in a pinch!

Agreed!

I fish Sunline FC 95% of the time and mostly Super Shooter, and Sniper sometimes depending on the intended use for the line. I use Toray at times to but very little. I have a few spools of Tatsu as well and its a nice line for sure I just like Shooter better. I use Megabass Dragon Call on some rigs as well but by far I use Shooter the most right now I would guess at it being on 30-35 setups. For Braid I only fish Daiwa stuff...

What Do You Use To Clean Reels?

Bearing Shields
the side plate bearing can be a pain to remove I fish only Daiwa reels me self and I run all my bearings seal-less, I use ABEC7's from ZPI and TG Rocket and ABEC9's from a local dealer that hooks me up on price. Use a #11 X-ACTO blade to remove the shields it works better then anything else ive ever used, just be careful because if it slips off the bearing lip it will cut the fire outta you lol I know how bad it will cut you so dull the blade first so it wont cut so deep if it gets ya. On my frog rods and slop fishing rods I leave one shield per bearing and leave the shield facing the outside to help fight off some dirt and grime, but other then those I run only shield-less because it makes it easier to flush/clean and also free spool is a bit better. So yeah what you are doing is fine but if you want both shields gone just use the #11 hobby knife and bingo you got it in the basket.

Can You "upgrade" With The Loomis Expediter Program?

Dean Rojas Warmouth!!
great bait around isolated brush and docks and a heck of a bed bait... they are hard to get here as they sell out as soon as my stores get them in so i buy 5 to 10 bags any time i see them. believe it or not they are deadly at pitching them in holes in heavy matted grass ive stuck two last month that went over 8 on the same day doing just that with them. they do not last at all they are pretty much a fish a bait lure thats why i buy so many right now i probably have 20 to 30 bags at the ready.
-
Suspending Jerkbaits
my main jerk bait are Megabass Vision 110s god knows i own a lot of them lol... #2 is pointers 78sp and 100sp i have some 128's but never need them offten #3 is staysees when i need to get down a little more so in your cause i would grab me some staysees and a 78sp and a 100sp and go at it.
-
Jig Question...
i use the zero G jigs a lot when pitching to isolated brush, they do fall much much slower they a jig with a big skirt and a big flappy tralier... most times i rig them with a rage craw and they are deadly at doing what i just said, they are not a jig that you will want to use for pitching in heavy grass cover as they do fall fast enough to punch through... they are also deadly when skipping under docks... i have caught many of weighed in tourney fish on them but thats the only slow fall jig ive ever fished.

Kvd 1.0 Vs 1.5
my academy here has had them for about a month i bough 25 of them the day they got them ... the stock hooks are silly replace them fellas all my baits get the Owner treatment and the 1.0 will carry bigger hooks no problem. if you think the stock strike king trebles open to easy these will feel like paper clips they are very very thin.

New Tackle That Will Give You An Edge In Competition?
over the years what i have enjoyed more then any other advance is my 1198SI on the gim mount the 1098 SI in dash and the 1098 SI on the front deck more then anything else. if you are looking for something that will make you better the SI\DI units will help you find more fish plain and simple it wont make you catch them but it will help you find them or where they should be.

What's Your Favorite Silent, Shallow-Running Crankbait?
LC CBS Zero or Mini skeet MR are my favs.. the KVD 1.0 is a great bait to and doesnt hurt to loose one or 5 in a day.... my all time fav is a Evergreen bait but if you dont like it when you loose a LC bait you will have a fit loosing a Evergreen bait so i wont get in to that lol.

To Trim The Weed Guard Or Not
i fish jigs a lot as i love pitching, flipping and punching more then anything and like to weigh in big bags... i will shorten a weed guard only will i need a stiffer weed guard other then that i flare them out a little not because of hook setting but because they come through cover better... now sometimes i notice fish grabbing and spitting the jig out super fast and when that happens on a few different fish i will then cut the weed guard down and thin it out as well... i have noticed on some waters that get jig fished way to much that the fish feels the weed guard and will in turn spit the lure as fast as it picked it up with a cut down guard they will hold on a tick longer this isnt something thats happened only once or twice so i know its what it is and a place where fish do that and you need strands removed and shortened is Rodman in FL i fish many many tourneys there and its pounded with jigs non stop all year long and the fish have gotten smart and when they feel a weed guard they flare their mouths and get it out with the quickness.
