  1. Well it was a waste of time, as the lake was frozen ha ha. frozen enough to not be able to fish, but not frozen enough to ice fish.
  2. its not that im asking permission its that i have never fished in this cold of water, and i am not the most experienced fisherman, so if the bass are never going to be in the area i can fish right now, im not going to go and be cold and catch nothing and have no chance of catching anything. I have a passion for fishing when i can catch fish, not when its darn near impossible to catch anything. and i came here to find out if there was a possibility that bass would be remotely shallow right now
  3. No, i catch fish from the shore all the time, I've just never tried in the winter so not sure if i will have any luck.
  4. should have put where i live. Northern missouri. temps were in the 45-60 all week today is high of 37 should eb a good waste of time like you said, but catching some fish would definetly make it a better use of time.
  5. Im getting the cabin fever and thinking about going out and trying to fish from shore. it was warm all week but today is cold, and was rainy. im thinking about going and fishing a jig on the rip rap along the dam of a small conservation lake. would i be wasting my time?
  6. if you use treated (cca) plywood i dont see why you would need to go all out and cover it is resin/ glass etc. as you put it it will never be exposed to anything other than rain, or occasional splashing. cca treated wood is used for decks, and holds up fine in outside conditions which is what your box is going to be put through except less since you said it is garaged. the best way to protect a deck is to use a water sealant of some kind, but many decks are simply just cca wood and thats it, and they last for a long time. if the box was going to be under constant water exposure it would be a different story.
  7. how do they judge the quality of the rod you turn in? can you bring just about any old rod in? sorry never participated in the trade in before
  8. I have a mk460 d it broke after a year, so i sent it in even though i didnt have the receipt, and no questions asked they sent me a new one, best of all it was here in less than a week from when i sent mine off. hopefully this time the charger will last longer, it doesnt matter what brand you buy there is bound to be some lemons here and there, the way the company treats you when you get a lemon determines who i will buy from.
  9. I was always told you can use two sizes/ ages etc, but you have to realize the power loss will start when your weaker battery gets low, and then your larger battery will start to "charge" the smaller battery. ultimately resulting in shorter life of both batteries i used two different sized batteries all last year and never saw any problems, but im never on the lake for more than 4-5 hours
  10. Thanks for the tips guys, i am ordering the two carb kits ( i do need two correct?) i have two carbs, and it appears one kit only covers 1 carb. ill wait on the float for now, as i can always order it if i need it but its harder to return things online. Is there anything else i should order with it? all the cleaners and such can be bought locally, but is there any other "essential" tune up parts i should order?
  11. im currenlty painting my fiberglass boat. the most work is 1. finding a way to lift it off the trailer so you can paint the bottom. 2. all the prep work Im using petit easy poxy, it looks great, and best of all can be rolled on, i would have never believed it until the manufacturer recomended "rolling and tipping" it on everyone that has seen it so far wonders how i sprayed my boat without taping off the interior and everything in the garage. no one believes it is rolled on. If you have any questions feel free to ask me, im no expert, but like i said i am in the process ( pretty much done) painting a fiberglass boat, and the same paint can be applied to aluminum if i remember right.
  12. My boat is a 1973 and it has been atleast 10 years since the carb has been rebuilt. so i plan on doing it in the next month. either i will do it or pay someone to do it but either way i plan on ordering the parts now. I have found a carb kit for my engine, which i assume i need two of the kits since my engine has two carb's? And it doesnt appear the kit includes the float, so im asssuming i should go ahead and buy those too? also i cant tell for sure if the carb kit has everything i would need aside from the float? as in needles? here is the kit for my engine http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00144EPU2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER and here is the float http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009TPRBO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER if i buy those two things (two of each?) will i be set to rebuild my carb's? also if anyone knows of a good video or instruction manual for rebuilding a 73 mercury 85 hp engine that would be great. i plan on ordering a manual with it, but a video would be nice as well.
  13. I just bought a shimano sahara 2500 plan on putting either 6 or 8 pound yo zuri hybrid ultra soft on it. I will be using this rod for all around fishing, texas/ carolina rig, jogs, spinner baits, some cranks. basically everything you could throw at a bass this rod will be used for exclusively at-least until i get practice in with my bait caster. I would like to keep the price around 50 dollars, used or new doesnt matter as long as there is a steady supply of used ones available on ebay. I realize this is pretty cheap, but im a college student, and i have no need for a 200 dollar rod I dont have anywhere close to look at all the rods, and im not all that picky, just want something of quality. and i know the guys on here will have some good recomendations. I was thinking a med fast or extra fast, (i have never really paid much attention to the length of rods)
  14. Sorry to keep bringing this to the top, but i feel like i should keep you guys updated on the situation, mainly to provide feedback for the company (MInn Kota) I received an email today, stating they had received my charger, and they would replace it, just needed a address to send it to as i forgot to include it. needless to say i am very pleased with minn kota, and as long as the package gets to me safely i will be a very happy customer of theirs. I give them an A+ in customer service.
  15. well sounds like you guys had good luck hopefully ill have the same. i should hear from them this week
  16. well im taking your guys advise (partially) i boxed it up and sent it to them, should be there next week. I didn't call them as i feel blatantly telling them i am in the wrong, then expecting them to be nice to me is not going to happen. I did enclose a note stating the problem with it, and i dont have a receipt. also explained to them how i lengthened the cables. I also stated i would like them to either replace, give me credit towards a new one, or lastly send the broken one back to me, because two of the banks still work. Im hoping at a minimum i will be able to get a 3 bank charger for free, since the 460-D is so high dollar, and receipt or not it should not quit working in that short amount of time.
  17. im afraid calling them and blatantly telling them, i am breaking their warranty in several ways, and admitting i am fully aware of this, and then asking them to honor their warranty will only give them the option of saying no. I dont see how they could say yes after i admit i am in the wrong. Im hoping by sending it in, with a paper stating what is wrong with it, will be easier for them to not say no. And it is the charging leads, not just the power cord that i altered. they sell longer charger lead cords, but they are extremely overpriced.
  18. I have a Minn kota 460-D charger, and it quit working after about 1 year it is still less than 3 years old ( minn kota's warranty is 3 years) problem is i bought it used (less than a year old when i got it) also i dont have the receipt which you are supposed to send in with it and i modified the output cables because they were too short. all of these void the warranty i emailed minn kota and they said to send it in, they didn't really say much more or if they would replace it or not. Im afraid if I pay the shipping, and send it to them, they are going to call and say they cant do anything for me given my circumstances of breaking the warranty, then i will have to pay them who knows how much for them to send it back to me. i would like it back as i believe 1 or two of the banks still work, but it wont be worth paying shipping both ways, plus whatever other fees they charge me. (states this in the warranty that i pay all fees involved if they dont replace it) any opinions? anyone been through something similar? it is a very expensive charger, and other than lengthening the output cables there is no reason it should have quit working so soon.
  19. yes it was 2 of them, and my absolute max was 80 dollars. ive found a buy it now for 60 shipped on new ones, so ill probably go that route, but two for almost one price even being used is a good deal to me.
  20. very cheap prices, except there is very little selection, and the lures that you can find dont have many choices for color. they must buy in bulk what other stores cant sell or something.
  21. This doesn't really matter too much as my auction on ebay ends in a few minutes, but for future reference, What is a fair price to pay for used reels? 50% of retail?more less? obviously it will depend on the condition, but 9 times out of 10 the reel is rated at 9/10 ha ha, so when buying a reel off ebay (where you only have feedback to trust the sellers description) what is fair for a used reel at good used condition? the reels im bidding on right now are two shimano sahara, title says both 2500, but it appears one is a 3000. my max bid is 70 with 10 shipping, so if i win ill get two for the price of one. good deal? edit they sold for 81 plus 10 shipping, i didnt get them
  22. thanks for the replies, guess i will get two vents on the compartment. as i have decided to stick with the metal transportable tanks.
  23. Im currently making my 70's bass boat into more of a bass boat style, meaning putting a back deck on it with compartments to store things. one problem im running into is how to safely make a compartment for my gas tank. option 1 i will make a actual compartment built into the deck with a lid on it, to put my portable metal tanks in option 2 i use a plastic "bolt in" type tank and put it under the whole back deck. my boat is fiberglass, option 1 will be using metal tanks that come in and out, option two will be the built in plastic tank. how do i vent the fumes? is it needed to vent them? what about ground it?
  24. yes you can paint fiberglass, back in the day that is how a lot of the boats were done. most fancy racing boats are painted. it can be done just takes lots of prep, and good paint (just like any paint job on any surface) I think ill pass on the ugly color combos though. i dont think anyone wants to steal a 70's bass boat no matter how ugly or pretty it is. I think ive decided to keep it simple and do white, with a black or grey stripe down the side. wish i could see it on my boat before ordering the paint though
  25. Ive got a 73 strahm bass boat that i am going to paint. havent decided how much money i am going to spend doing it or how good of paint i am going to use. but that is something i will decide on my own I would like some input on color/style should i try to make it look new and up to todays style? or try to keep it with its age yet not so ugly as it is now? my truck is white so i thought about painting part or all of it white to match any ideas are welcome, colors designs to put on it etc
