i use 7 lbs sunline for spinning and 12-16 lbs sunline sniper or shooter never had a problem with breakoffs. try buy 200 yard spool of sunline and use it and see what happens

i suggest you use weedless wacky jighead or gamakatsu weedless finesse hook, they work wonders for me in weeds/heavy covers
