  1. The Bait Monkey LIVES!....Old posts die hard. 8-)
  2. Sorry, I made all my fishing donations this year to an ol' boy in Texas who hasn't shown his face here in quite a while. His handle is Ikebass. Know him?
  3. I never thought I had any boating or fishing superstitions until I bought a fairly expensive fish stringer with a hefty quality yellow nylon cord. I swear, if I break that stringer out I catch no fish at all. This goes for boat and shore fishing. It doesn't matter what kind of fishing I am doing or even if I don't plan to keep any fish at all. If I have that stringer around I catch nothing. I am not a superstitious man but that stringer has to go.
  4. Fourbizzle, I truly hope that you don't find Umbra Fisk to be a viable source for how you come up with your opinions on things. That person or group of people is seriously out of touch with reality. I'd say more about my opinion but it would get into politics and social engineering and that is not what this forum is about. http://www.grist.org/advice/ask/2004/11/22/umbra-walmart/ http://www.tompaine.com/articles/blame_walmart.php?dateid=20050412 http://www.grist.org/advice/ask/2003/09/25/umbra-hunting/ http://www.grist.org/advice/ask/2003/11/17/umbra-fish/index.html I'm sorry to everyone else for diverting from the intent of this thread. Tom
  5. I like the Shimano Stradic. Nice reel without the really high cost. I also use the Sahara and I just got a Pflueger President (can't use it until Christmas - Wife's rule - it's a present). The Stradic is smoother than the Sahara. I also would love a Stella but cannot justify the cost. My Stradic rests at the bottom of Lake Norman. I miss it so. There is another in my future...probably two.
  6. Looks like a lot of fun! ;D Thanks for sharing. Tom
  7. Chicken soup, Ny-Quil, Advil and rest. I hope you are feeling better soon.
  8. I ordered some reel lube from Reel Mech on 11-28 and I received it today 12-1. That is good and Fast service!
  9. Thanks Reel Mech. I placed my order on 11/28 and today I have my order in hand. Thank you for very good service. Tom
  10. I dearly love my BPS here in Concord. It's 4 miles down the road and the staff there is awesome. I have not had too many problems with getting what I needed when I needed it. The nice thing is that when there is an item that they have run out of they put a tag on the pin to show that the item has been inventoried and reordered. Another thing I like is the fact that the staff actually seems to know a little bit about fishing, hunting, camping and boating. I have never had that experience with Gander Mountain or other stores. I guess I'm lucky here.
  11. Screw the Pix...When is the fish fry? ;D
  12. Raul, That's funny! Nice prop with the monkey. ;D Nice reel too!
  13. Did you catch one of these Bass 109?
  14. Thanks Reel Mech. You have an order. Your system wouldn't let me place two seperate items on the same order so there will be two orders from me. Thanks very much. Tom
  15. I feel bad for the car...What with that bellyache and all..... ;D
  16. Nice fish NEBassMan Ain't cold weather bass fishin' Cool? 8-)
  17. The Abu Garcia lube is PTFE based (Teflon). I went to Bass Pro yesterday to buy the lube that Reel Mech and Jim Blair mentioned and they don't carry it at my BPS here. They only carry the Hot Sauce and the Abu Garcis PTFE lubes. In my experience with firearms PTFE (Teflon) lubes are not good for high temperature mechanisms but might be okay for reels and such. In my work on trains and door mechanisms PTFE has a tendency to migrate. Which may not be a problem with a reel but I'll let the more experienced people here speak about that.
  18. Thank you Lucky Craft Man. Reel Mech and Jim Blair. I appreciate your responses very much. Reel Mech and Jim Blair, I will look into the lubes you mentioned. No offense Jim, but I never use WD-40 on anything as intricate as reels or firearms. Anybody want a new tube of Hot Sauce lube?
  19. I just did a search for 12" PVC pipe and such and after thinking about what you wish to make I have to ask...Have you looked into any used Jon boat prices in your area? You don't mention what you want to do with this pontoon boat but it appears that getting that size of PVC could be a problem in the quantity you would need. Also, are you just wishing to make a raft? The cost involved with making a pontoon boat of this nature with all the materials and safety elements including the motor mounts would be much more than just buying a small used Jon boat, in my opinion. Besides that, you may want to check with the local DFG and USCG regs in regards to what you are planning just to be sure your boat is safe. This is just my opinion but I think you should look into other options. Tom
  20. Brush Pile Berry, Buy the game and then when it prompts you regarding play on-line or alone you can select on-line play. I recommend playing alone for a while to get the hang of the game and then going on-line if you want to expand. I used to play Call of Duty, a WWII first person shooter game. On-line you could play others on the COD site or join battle teams or squads for a small fee. There were groups that battled one another and it was very cool but I never really got into it enough to warrant the monthly fees and the upgrades. I had friends that went "whole hog" with this to the point where they funded entire squads for competition. They would compete with others from all over the world in skirmishes and battles. Be advised, this could take up a lot of your time should you become enamoured with it. Tom

;D Avid, That sure looks a lot like the bear warnings that I used to see in California. ;D I never heeded the warnings though. I carried firearms.
  22. Yesterday the air temp was about 45. The day before it was upper 30's with a wind chill factor of "Holy Crap it's COLD". The water temp, and this is just a guess, was around 50 to 60 degrees. Currently the lake is at 57 degrees and the temp outside is 65.
  23. I dearly love the early mornings, especially on the water. There is nothing like watching the sun come up regardless of whether you are fishing, hunting, camping, etc. When I was a kid everyone in my family like to fish the evenings and at night. Whenever I had a chance to fish early morning I was in heaven. The same holds true today.
  24. I agree wholeheartedly with Jim Blair. Courtesy and respect go a long way in our outdoor sports. The nice thing is, I see more courtesy and respect between outdoorsmen, and outdoorswomen than I ever see in everyday life. I have encountered duck hunters when fishing and always give them a very wide berth. Just as I do with shore fishermen when I am in my boat and boat fishermen when I am shore fishing. The same goes for open water fishing, in my book. If someone has an area I consider it "theirs" until they leave. I appreciate the same courtesy. Tom
